Your Role:

A Construction Party Chief is responsible for completing construction fieldwork assigned to them while being the leader of a survey crew. As a leader of the survey crew, the Construction Party Chief is responsible for completing all assigned work efficiently and as per both AOLS and IBW Standards. The Construction Party Chief is required to communicate with the Project Manager of their assigned actions to ensure the scope and requirements are clear and is also to communicate with the Construction Team Lead, who sets the direction for the field processes, regarding processes and the work in general.



Due to the nature of construction, we require applicants who can be very flexible about working evenings, nights, and weekends when required.


Please note this position is based in the field and operates mainly in Toronto. Our physical office is located in Richmond Hill.


Your Responsibilities:

  • Cogo calculations using the data collector while in the field
  • Complete fieldwork in support of: stakeouts, pinnings, gridline layouts, lot grading, etc
  • Completing field notes on all projects at time of performing survey, documenting the field checks and ensuring the notes reflect the work that was completed in the field
  • Demonstrate proficiency with all field equipment and competently pair all devices
  • Ensuring equipment and vehicle is in good working order
  • Knowledge of boundary locations, and to identify on site the boundarys locations in the vicinity of construction sites
  • Knowledge of IBW and AOLS standards
  • Knowledge of safety requirements
  • Knowledge of the redundant measurements required for control points and construction stakeouts
  • Recognizing when and how to request information that is missing from the project file discovered during Action briefing or during fieldwork
  • Troubleshooting issues while in the field and reaching out to the appropriate staff members when needed
  • Working knowledge of all types of survey equipment and how the various tools fit into the fieldwork workflow to aid production
  • Offer technical support to other field staff as required
  • Provide clear instructions and training to field assistant
  • Ability to work solo or in a team
  • Supervising and instructing Construction Survey crews
  • Seeks ways to improve efficiency allowing for increased workload - better and faster

Activities and Responsibilities    

  • Lead and oversee the execution of claims and dispute resolution projects within the infrastructure sector, ensuring accurate analysis, timely delivery, and effective client communication. 
  • Prepare expert reports on issues related to quantum, delay, loss of productivity, technical construction matters (means and methods, quality), and damage calculations.
  • Mentor and coach a team of professionals in the space, helping them learn, develop and grow into future dispute experts in their own right.
  • Support the Managing Directors in our pursuit of excellence and high quality of delivery, identifying highly skilled staff for our team (delay analysis, contract administration specialists, quantum specialists)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather, consolidate, and analyze data. Work seamlessly with our colleagues in the A&M Infrastructure practice on advisory engagements as required.
  • Develop and implement strategies for effectively presenting claims and resolving disputes, while adhering to industry best practices and relevant regulations
  • Prepare presentations, lead meetings and discussions with clients, stakeholders, and legal teams to communicate complex information and support dispute resolution processes. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with lawyers and clients in the infrastructure sector, providing valuable insights and guidance in dispute matters. 
  • Participate in industry events and forums to expand professional networks and stay informed about industry developments. 
  • Contribute to the identification of potential claims or disputes and work Opportunities preparing bids and assembling best in class teams to support our clients and help grow our business.

Qualifications   

  • 10 - 15 + years of experience in the infrastructure or construction industry with at least 3-5 years in related professional services firms (engineering, big 4 firms, management consulting firms)
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, tailored for interactions within the infrastructure and legal contexts. 
  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Engineering, Law, Business, Accounting or a related field. 
  • Proven experience in claims and dispute resolution within the infrastructure industry. 
  • Extensive knowledge in best practices and methods of construction claim analysis 
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations. 
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and platforms for claims and dispute resolution analysis. 
  • Preferred experience with Delay (Primavera P6) or Quantum expert report
  • Knowledge of AACE, SCL, PMI guidelines preferred
  • Willingness to travel, as needed. 
  • Understanding of relevant regulations and industry standards in the infrastructure sector.

- Create integrated schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project for various project phases
- Ensure schedules are vetted by Superintendents, subtrades, or the internal Production Rates database, and adhere to company best practices
- Develop critical path method (CPM) baseline schedules
- Prepare preliminary master schedules before project start to ensure they are realistic and competitive
- Participate in project planning during pursuits and respond to RFPs, including reading and analyzing contractual requirements, drawings, and specifications
- Incorporate resource and cost data into schedules and update progress throughout project execution
- Track unplanned events, assess their impacts, and update schedules accordingly
- Provide Time-Impact-Analysis (TIA) schedules, as-built vs. as-planned schedules, and microwork schedules as needed
- Work with project controls managers, project managers, and teams to define project execution plans and schedules
- Maintain master schedules and provide narratives for changes from the baseline
- Develop and maintain databases for construction productivity rates, procurement durations, lead times, and project risk items

**Qualifications**

- Minimum 4+ years in a Planner, Scheduler, or similar role, with experience managing complex ICI or residential project schedules
- Residential or Commercial construction site-based experience is preferred
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Estimating, Engineering, or related trade certifications
- Proficient in Primavera (P6) and Microsoft Project
- Strong understanding of construction execution strategies and CPM methodologies

( Responsibilities**

- Ensures that field staff are equipped with the resources required to efficiently complete projects according to approved plans, specifications and applicable building codes while ensuring that safety regulations are strictly followed
- Actively participates in the pre-bid and preconstruction process regarding site layout, logistics, scheduling, and workforce planning
- Works collaboratively with safety personnel to ensure adherence to Ledcor’s Corporate safety programs and policies
- Ensures all projects follow Ledcor’s Construction Operations Manual and lead the development of the Project Quality Program (PQP), ensuring PEP conformance
- Review and maintain schedule, ensure milestones are met, identify scheduling issues and delays and lead solution development
- Promotes the overall site safety program including subcontractor compliance with Ledcor standards, the Project Specific Safety Plan (PSSP), and all applicable OH&S acts, regulations, and codes
- Participates in the hiring and managing of hourly employees as required, and maintains, approves, and submits hourly timecards with all necessary details for job costing purposes
- Maintains strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients/consultants to ensure client needs are met and ensure future business opportunities
- Supports and promotes Ledcor’s core values of safety, quality, integrity, sustainability and success

**Qualifications**

- 4+ years of construction experience in a Superintendent position or similar with demonstrated ability to successfully lead a high-performing team and build solid long-term relationships with external clients and consultants
- Experience managing multiple construction projects within commercial or residential
- Combination of work experience in a similar role and industry related trade certification/education
- Expertise in safety within the organization and knowledge of OH&S and Environmental standards and regulations
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to work with senior management
- Strong technical knowledge of modern construction practices, documents, drawings, schedules, technologies, equipment, industry practices and contract negotiations
- Expertise in coaching and developing team members through constructive feedback and providing opportunities for development
- Ability to anticipate problems and challenges, while providing leadership in creating innovative solutions to achieve organizational objectives

**Work Conditions**

- This is a site-based role located in Edmonton and surrounding areas
- A valid driver’s license, clean driving abstract, and proof of insurance with a minimum $2M liability coverage are required
- WHMIS 2015, CSTS training, and First Aid certification (completed or willingness to obtain) are mandatory
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements
