Partner Staffing on behalf of our Client, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Transmission Line Design Engineer (EIT) to join the Calgary-based power engineering team. In this role, you will support the design and analysis of overhead and underground high-voltage transmission lines (69 kV to 500 kV) for utility and energy sector clients across Alberta and Western Canada. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will participate in all phases of the project lifecycle—from conceptual design through to detailed engineering and construction support.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development of transmission line route layouts, structure spotting, and line profiling using PLS-CADD and related software.
- Support structural analysis and loading calculations using PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and other industry-standard tools.
- Collaborate with civil, electrical, and geotechnical teams to ensure design integration and constructability.
- Prepare engineering drawings, material specifications, and cost estimates.
- Participate in site visits, condition assessments, and survey reviews to collect relevant data.
- Support the preparation of design reports, regulatory submissions, and construction packages.
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE, AESC).
- Communicate with clients, utility partners, and construction personnel as needed.
- Commit to continuous learning, mentorship, and development toward P.Eng. designation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA.
- 1–4 years of experience in transmission line design or a related field (internship/co-op experience considered).
- Familiarity with industry software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
- Understanding of transmission line components, construction practices, and regulatory standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel for site visits.
