Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of classes including cardio kickboxing,, HIIT, bootcamps, spin, yoga, Mossa program.
  • Arrive at the class location 10 to 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled start time to be available to interact with members, answer questions, inquire about their fitness progress, introduce and orient new participants
  • Inquire if there are any first-timers in the group and if so, assess their fitness level in as private a manner as possible
  • Ensure all verbal instructions are clear and that the volume, tempo of music and overall atmosphere is conducive to hearing, teaching, learning and having fun
  • Continually monitor participants to ensure all participants are using correct form. Offer variations of the routine to accommodate all fitness level
  • Responsible for instructing classes within certain guidelines and ensuring equipment is safe for all members to use
  • Dismantle all audio and visual equipment after use
  • Encouraging members to try new group fitness classes is always a bonus!
Qualifications
  • Minimum six (6) months of experience instructing group fitness classes
  • Knowledge of safe exercise techniques, group exercise principles, basic physiology and body mechanics
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and influence people
  • Professional, organized, efficient, results-focused and a self-starter
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment
  • Group Fitness Certification by BCRPA, ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or equivalent
  • Current CPR certification

Roles and Responsibilities:


Planning

  • Prepare courses for delivery to clients according to approved curriculum and teaching methodologies

Instructional

Assessment

  • Prepare and administer regular assessments, both formative and summative, according to the established guidelines

Required Qualifications

Languages

  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is mandatory.
  • French is considered a strong asset.

Wages

  • $25.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

The Position:
At British Swim School, we teach fun swim lessons, but thats not all! We shoot through the water like torpedoes toward our swimmers goals! We are a team of fun-loving people that are serious about saving lives and having fun while doing it!

Being a swim instructor, you will be provided the training to teach swim lessons to children and adults, starting at 3-months old, following the British Swim School aquatics program that is gentle, fun, and progressive. You will be assigned to a class schedule developed by manager(s) and interact with swimmers, and parents and/or guardians.

Your Typical Responsibilities:
  • Reports directly to and supports the Aquatics Manager and/or Business Owner(s).
  • Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with British Swim School training and program standards, maintaining certifications throughout employment.
  • Work a flexible schedule that may include evenings (3pm-8pm), weekends (1pm- 5pm), and holidays as required by business needs.
  • Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high and be in the water for the duration of the shift.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, equivalent, or in the process of completion.
  • Enthusiastic personality.
  • Comfortable in and around the water. Strong swimming skills are a plus but can be taught and developed!
  • Must maintain certifications throughout the length of employment.
  • Must complete all required British Swim School Aquatics-specific training and testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children.
  • Swimming experience: 1-2 years preferred but not required.
  • Customer service skills: 1 year preferred
  • Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR Certification(s) preferred.
