Your Role- You will oversee and prepare financial reports and profit allocation statements, including calculation of “net asset value,” in accordance with client deadlines
- Act as liaison with the client on matters relating to the preparation of the monthly reporting package
- Ensure timely and accurate response to client inquiries
- Assist staff with their monthly work as the need arises
- Act as a liaison with external parties
- Ensure adherence to all internal and external standard procedures and best practices
- Assist with new client on-boarding and new fund launches to ensure successful completion
- Review administrative / accounting procedures and recommend solutions in order to work towards a more efficient NAV production process
- Facilitate compliance with internal reporting requirements
- Participate in strategic departmental and corporate initiatives
- Assist with ad hoc projects
- You have an accounting / finance background with relevant experience as evidenced by a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics and demonstrated 5+ years of work experience in hedge fund accounting or investment companies fund accounting with derivative instruments and external investors
- Nearly qualified or have completed CA, CMA, CGA, CPA or CFA designation (preferred – not a must have)
- Strong working understanding of investment strategies and financial products (including derivatives)
- Been in a reviewer capacity of deliverables and managing delivery for the team
- Experience managing a team of 5+ people as their manager, supervisor, coach, mentor etc.
- Able to demonstrate that you are comfortable working in an operations model where you have to coordinate and work with various teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated financial reporting, analytical and organizational skills
- Strong Office and Outlook skill set (especially Excel)
- Proven ability to work in a challenging and professional work environment

**Position Responsibilities:**
**Accounting Advisory**
+ Assist in researching and providing guidance on the appropriate and practical accounting treatment for all new private equity or alternative long duration assets as well as new products and entity structures;
+ Assist in providing transaction advisory support on issues such as consolidation, derecognition, and participation in implementation of new accounting standards for investments in collaboration and consultation with the Group Accounting Policy team.
+ Be a trusted accounting advisor to our Genera Account Front Office and Private Markets Asset Class teams including Manulife Investment Management Private Equity & Credit Group (MIMPEC) and Manulife Investment Management Timberland and Agriculture Group (MIMTA), by translating and communicating complex accounting topics and recommending changes in the realization of business/strategic goals;
+ Support in the monitoring of new accounting pronouncements and assist in the impact analysis of such developments to the organization. Assist in ensuring that the implications to the Investment Division of such developments are well understood and that our accounting policies remain appropriate;
+ Work with various partners, including legal, corporate policy, capital advisory, investment teams across our US, Canada and Asia Segments in launch of new third-party products or mandate to achieve desired accounting treatment.
+ Prepare memos and other formal documentation on accounting treatments discussed with Private Markets stakeholders
+ Assist in ad-hoc projects and implementation of new accounting standards and other projects in the accounting advisory area.
+ Prepare first level interim and full reviews of internally valued private equity investments and summarize results
+ Coordinate and perform the first level of review for MIMPEC fund valuations
**Required Qualifications:**
+ A professional accounting designation or in the process of obtaining a professional accounting designation (i.e., CA/CPA) is required; Finance designation (CFA) is a plus.
+ 2+ years accounting/financial services experience.
+ Background with a technical accounting policy, advisory, consulting, or similar function within a large public accounting firm or financial institution is preferable.
+ Working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including IFRS and US GAAP. Some knowledge of NAIC accounting is preferable.
+ Must be diligent and quick to understand and apply new concepts.
+ Strong project management skills to effectively control the course of special projects.
+ Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills to work productively with business unit partner and to exchange information with others.

**Responsibilities**
+ Play an integral part in the worldwide close process through preparing, analyzing, and reviewing assigned general ledger account reconciliations, journal entries, and other analysis to support the consolidated financial statements
+ Prepare, analyze, and report accounting results of stock-based compensation under ASC 718Compensation-Stock Compensation
+ Ensure compliance with US GAAP for various accounting areas. Prepare and review accounting entries as appropriate
+ Work closely with business partners and accounting teams worldwide to understand changes in the business and statutory requirements which impact US GAAP accounting areas
+ Prepare flux analyses and reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and schedules for management and external auditors as appropriate
+ Compile and prepare monthly journal entry activity reports and obtain required review confirmations
+ Prepare analysis of non-departmental costs for FP&A forecasts
+ Review and prepare various cost allocations by functions
+ Analyze technical accounting issues under US GAAP and prepare accounting memos addressing technical issues as required
+ Analyze technical accounting issues and provide guidance to the Finance community, as required
+ Identify opportunities for process improvements to optimize the financial close process. These projects include information systems improvements as well as creating efficiencies with manual processes
+ Prepare government surveys as assigned
+ Additional ad hoc and special projects as required
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ BA in Accounting or Finance with proven academic excellence
+ 4+ years of related experience (minimum 2 years of public accounting experience a plus)
+ CPA or requirements met for certification is preferred
+ Able to demonstrate a solid understanding of relevant accounting principles under US GAAP
+ A working knowledge of SAP is preferred
+ Experience with BlackLine a plus
+ Experience with data analytics tools (Alteryx, Power BI, etc.) a plus
+ Experience in multi-national public companies is preferred (experience in software industry a plus)
+ Excellent planning, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to a non-technical audience
+ Detailed oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, organized and thorough with desire for continuous improvement and growth
+ Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze data
+ Ability to work well in a team and as an individual contributor
+ Ability to prioritize workload, perform in a fast-paced global environment and work overtime during peak times such as quarter-end
