Your role:

Global Relay delivers enterprise services to 23,000 customers in 90 countries, including 22 of the top 25 global banks. Our infrastructure teams provide fantastic opportunities to System Administrators who are passionate about maintaining reliable Linux systems with a strong interest in automation, performance and security. We are seeking a highly motivated engineer with deep expertise in architecting, deploying, and automating on-premises Kubernetes clusters, including infrastructure provisioning, CI/CD integration, and cluster lifecycle management.

• Deploy, manage, and maintain highly available Kubernetes clusters (on-prem and/or cloud).
• Automate cluster provisioning, upgrades, patching, and scaling.
• Configure and manage networking, storage, ingress and namespaces within Kubernetes.
• Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for clusters and workloads.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to pods, nodes, control plane components, and application deployments.
• Document infrastructure, configurations, and operational processes.
• Participate in on-call rotation and incident response processes.

Your responsibilities:

• Assist in the design (major or incremental) of Kubernetes infrastructure
• Assist in the provisioning of Kubernetes infrastructure Identify, troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct systems related issues as they arise
• Monitor and review dashboards, logs, and critical alerts to ensure system issues are identified, escalated, and addressed as quickly as possible
• Provide ongoing operational support and work closely with team members on issue resolution
• Manage and administer incident, problem, and service request queues
• Develop and maintain system use guides, run books, and other documentation as needed
• Evaluate and determine opportunities for automation and implementation

About you:

We are looking for someone who is willing to grow in the role and extend their Kubernetes skill set as our infrastructure continues to evolve to meet our future architectural goals

• 3+ years of hands-on experience managing Kubernetes clusters in production
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals (control plane, scheduler, kubelet, etc.)
• Experience with on-premises Kubernetes (e.g., kubeadm, RKE, OpenShift) and/or managed services (EKS, GKE, AKS)
• Proficiency in Linux systems administration and containerization (Docker)
• Enjoys automating away manual tasks using scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) and configuration management tools such as Ansible
• A problem solver who takes initiative, is pro active and Comfortable digging through open source code to find answers
• Ability to analyze complex systems and problems and express them in simple terms

Compensation:

Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia's pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.

The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values. As a staff-level engineer, you'll be a technical leader. You'll set direction, solve deeply complex infrastructure challenges, and deliver solutions that are reliable, scalable, and secure. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on impact, collaboration, and working at scale.
You'll partner with teams across Lyft to ensure our foundational network infrastructure supports high performance, reliability, and developer velocity.
**Responsibilities** **:**
+ Design, implement, and maintain Lyft'sservice mesh and edge routingusingEnvoy ProxyandKubernetes on AWS, ensuring secure and reliable service-to-service communication
+ Scale and operate Lyft'sKubernetes networking stack, includingIngress controllers, CNI plugins, andservice discovery, to support high-availability microservices
+ Develop and optimizeload balancing algorithms and traffic policiesacrosscontrol and data planesto improve latency, resiliency, and cost efficiency
+ Build and maintainobservability infrastructure(e.g.,Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Datadog) to enable real-time visibility and incident response
+ Lead incident investigation and resolution forproduction network issues, debugging across layers includingKubernetes, VPC networking, service mesh, andL4/L7 traffic flow
**Experience** **:**
+ Bachelor's degreein Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
+ 8+ years of hands-on experienceoperatingKubernetes in productionand working incloud environmentssuch asAWSorGCP
+ Proficient inInfrastructure as Code (IaC)using tools likeTerraform, and experienced in automating deployments in large-scale environments
+ Strong background inLinux systems, networking, DNS, load balancing, and protocols such asHTTP, HTTPS, and gRPC
+ Proven experience designing or operatingdistributed network management systems, includingservice mesh or service proxies(e.g.,Envoy, Istio, NGINX, Cilium)
+ Deep understanding ofAWS networking concepts, includingVPCs, subnets, NAT gateways, NLBs, andsecurity groups
+ Demonstrated ability todebug complex, multi-layer infrastructure issuesand leadincident responseacross highly available, large-scale systems

The expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $172,000 - CAD $215,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
