The Chemistry Lab Technician a is responsible for the timely execution of preparing samples to be used for the Cannabis testing and analytical process. This includes setting up, calibrating, and verifying machinery, as well as grinding, weighing, extracting, transferring, diluting, breaking down (digesting) and loading samples on the instruments used in their analysis.
Primary Responsibilities
- Transferring samples to flasks (eg. removal of samples from cartridges, spiking of samples, transferring to flasks)
- End of shift clean-up, glassware cleaning
- Preparation of solutions, glassware, etc.
- Preparation of standards for various analytical processes.
- Transferring of samples on lateral or wrist action shaker (where applicable)
- Labelling of vials
- Preparation of flasks (eg. appropriate rinses, and labelling)
- Loading samples on instruments (where applicable)
- General maintenance and upkeep
- Daily safety inspections and stretching
- Sonicate, evaporate, centrifuge samples according to test method
- Verification of lab equipment as required (eg. Pipettors, Dispensers, Balances and syringes)
- The employee shall implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform duties in accordance to existing project specific requirements, current test methods, study plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Compliance to Health & Safety policies and procedures and wear required PPE equipment at all times
- Other duties as assigned
Education
- Completion of a 2 year Chemistry related diploma/Certificate program required
- Completion of a 4 year Bachelors Diploma/Degree in a Chemistry related program preferred
- Or as determined by Human Resources and Department Director/Manager
Experience
- 2 year or more experience in a lab environment gained through a completion of a 2 year or 4 year chemistry related program
- 1 to 2 years professional experience in a lab or analytical testing environment is an asset
- Or as determined by Human Resources and Department Director/Manager
Soft Skills
- Demonstrate patience/adaptability to change
- Work under pressure and with various distractions

The Chemical Technician will support laboratory and production activities by preparing chemical solutions, conducting experiments, performing quality control tests, and maintaining accurate records. This individual will work closely with chemists, engineers, and production teams to ensure the safe and efficient execution of chemical processes and testing protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare chemical solutions and reagents following precise formulations and safety standards
- Conduct routine chemical and physical tests on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products
- Operate and maintain lab equipment such as pH meters, viscometers, spectrophotometers, and titration apparatus
- Document test results and maintain accurate lab records in accordance with company and regulatory standards
- Assist in maintaining chemical inventories and lab supplies
- Participate in research and development projects as needed
- Monitor reactions, record observations, and report deviations or abnormal results
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and quality protocols
- Assist in calibrating and troubleshooting laboratory instruments
- Support production teams with chemical batching or blending processes when required
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related scientific field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 1–3 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of basic laboratory techniques and chemical handling procedures
- Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and analytical methods
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work under minimal supervision
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is a plus
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Working Conditions
- Work performed in laboratory and production settings
- May involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, and occasional high temperatures or pressure systems

Primary Responsibilities

We currently, we have an opening for a Technician, Sample Preparation - Afternoons
The Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for completing duties for Sample Preparation (SP).
Sample Preparation Technicians are responsible for the preparation of the solutions to be used during smoking, preparation of impingers, ice baths and other glassware and equipment where applicable. Sample Preparation Technicians are responsible for ensuring that all applicable equipment is verified/calibrated prior to use. Sample Preparation Technicians are responsible for preparing samples in compliance with the published SOP’s and Test Methods.
SP Technicians are required to complete duties of both sample preparation and sample generation where required in co-operation with their team. After smoking, the SP Technician extracts the samples and, where applicable, dilutes samples, breaks down samples (digesting) using microwave, and loads samples on the instruments used in their analysis.All SP Technicians are responsible for the cleanliness, organization and upkeep of the laboratory in order to maintain a good working environment. This includes (but is not limited to) neutralizing and discarding of acid waste, as well as disposing of chlorinated and non-chlorinated waste. All procedures must be carried out according to applicable SOPs/Test Methods or other Quality Controlled documentation and/or training.
A SP Technician involved in the conduct of a GLP study must be knowledgeable in those parts of the Principles of GLP, which are applicable to their involvement in the study. SP Technicians will have access to the Study Plan and appropriate SOPs applicable to their involvement in the study. It is the SP Technician’s responsibility to comply with the instructions given in these documents. Any deviation from these instructions should be documented and communicated directly to the Study Director, and/or, if appropriate, the Principal Investigator(s). A SP Technician is responsible for recording raw data promptly and accurately and in compliance with the Principles of GLP, and is responsible for the quality of the data.
The SP Technician should exercise health precautions to minimize risk to her/himself and to ensure the integrity of the study. He/she should communicate to the appropriate person any relevant known health or medical condition in order that they can be excluded from operations that may affect the study. SP Technicians have a duty to follow Health and Safety responsibilities as outlined in SFM-007.

The Lab Tech I plays a key role in executing daily laboratory operations by performing sample generation, sample preparation, basic assay procedures, and equipment maintenance in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Test Methods, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). This entry-level position supports multiple functions across the laboratory, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of projects within a GLP and/or ISO17025-compliant environment.
Technicians are expected to escalate issues, follow established quality and safety practices, and contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized laboratory space.
Primary Responsibilities
Sample Generation and Preparation
- Setup, calibration, and verification of smoking machines and other analytical equipment used in sample generation and preparation.
- Generate and prepare samples following approved SOPs and Chain of Custody requirements.
- Prepare and label solutions, media, reagents, and glassware for downstream use in assays.
- Perform tasks such as transferring, diluting, digesting, sonication, evaporation, centrifugation, and filtration of samples.
- Prepare impingers, flasks, autosampler vials, and associated materials for analysis.
- Operate shakers, centrifuges, and other general-use laboratory equipment.
- Perform simple or routine steps in assays under direct supervision (e.g., colony counting, microplate reading, slide scoring).
- Accurately record raw data, maintain laboratory logbooks, and complete necessary worksheets.
- Prepare media and associated materials for use in Toxicology analysis.
- Conduct and document equipment calibration, verification, and routine maintenance.
- Participate in environmental monitoring, housekeeping, laboratory upkeep and receiving of materials.
- Clean and maintain lab glassware and workstations.
- Implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform their duties in accordance to existing project specific requirements, current Test Methods, study plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Comply with Health & Safety policies and procedures and wear required Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
- Ensure adherence to good documentation practices (GDP), GLP and ISO17025 requirements.
- Report deviations, equipment malfunctions, and non-conformances to Team Leads or Supervisors promptly.
- Participate in safety inspections, corrective actions, and training activities as required.
- Follow assigned production schedules and timelines.
- Work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in team huddles and safety briefings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education
- Required: Diploma or Degree in a Biology-related discipline (e.g., Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, MLT).
- Preferred: Training or experience in laboratory work, sample preparation, or mechanical/technical tasks.
- Alternate: Equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by Human Resources and Department Director/Manager.

Technician, Sample Generation/Preparation are responsible for the preparation of the solutions to be used during smoking, preparation of impingers, ice baths and other glassware and equipment where applicable. Technician, Sample Generation/Preparation are responsible for ensuring that all applicable equipment is verified/calibrated prior to use. Sample Preparation Technicians are responsible for preparing samples in compliance with the published SOP’s and Test Methods.
Technicians are required to complete duties of both sample preparation and sample generation where required in co-operation with their team. After smoking, the Technician extracts the samples and, where applicable, dilutes samples, breaks down samples (digesting) using microwave, and loads samples on the instruments used in their analysis.All Technicians are responsible for the cleanliness, organization and upkeep of the laboratory in order to maintain a good working environment. This includes (but is not limited to) neutralizing and discarding of acid waste, as well as disposing of chlorinated and non-chlorinated waste. All procedures must be carried out according to applicable SOPs/Test Methods or other Quality Controlled documentation and/or training.
A Technician involved in the conduct of a GLP study must be knowledgeable in those parts of the Principles of GLP, which are applicable to their involvement in the study. Technicians will have access to the Study Plan and appropriate SOPs applicable to their involvement in the study. It is the SP Technician’s responsibility to comply with the instructions given in these documents. Any deviation from these instructions should be documented and communicated directly to the Study Director, and/or, if appropriate, the Principal Investigator(s). A SP Technician is responsible for recording raw data promptly and accurately and in compliance with the Principles of GLP, and is responsible for the quality of the data.
The Technician should exercise health precautions to minimize risk to her/himself and to ensure the integrity of the study. He/she should communicate to the appropriate person any relevant known health or medical condition in order that they can be excluded from operations that may affect the study. SP Technicians have a duty to follow Health and Safety responsibilities as outlined in SFM-007.
