Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Job Description
We are seeking a Laboratory Technician for a 6–8-week contract to support our team during a period of leave and vacation. This role primarily involves manual testing activities rather than working with automated instruments. The successful candidate will perform various laboratory tests and be responsible for data entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to generate results. This position offers an opportunity to gain experience at a GMP facility with the potential for contract extension based on performance and project volume.
Responsibilities
- Conduct manual testing such as Manual Distillation, Vapor Testing, Sulphur Testing, Density Testing, and Centrifugal work.
- Perform data entry into LIM systems to generate test results.
- Prepare samples and perform other laboratory duties related to safe lab practices and chemistry.
- Maintain a high priority on safety and adhere to quality control, GMP, and quality assurance standards.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a laboratory setting.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in chemistry, biology, or microbiology.
- Expertise in environmental, soil, or water testing.
- Ability to follow testing methods accurately.
- Experience with data entry and ensuring accuracy.
- Commitment to maintaining safety standards.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding, standing environment.
- Experience with oil testing is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tasks.
- Strong attention to detail.

The work environment is physically demanding and requires availability on weekends. The role operates Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The team reports to a team lead who oversees both oil and gas operations.

This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, Alberta.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.

The Dr. Peter D. Pan Regional Laboratory at Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH) provides support to physicians, midwives, nurse practitioners, and their patients. In partnership with Lifelabs, the laboratory provides testing services 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to in-patients, registered out-patients and community patients in all laboratory disciplines: chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, surgical pathology and cytology.
