Position Summary
The Quality Control (QC) Chemistry Lab Assistant provides essential support to the QC Chemistry team by ensuring smooth daily operations of the laboratory. The role involves managing laboratory samples, maintaining cleanliness, assisting with procurement of supplies, and handling glassware cleaning in accordance with in-house Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This position is vital to maintaining an organized, safe, and compliant laboratory environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Sample and Chemicals Management

  • Log incoming chemicals, reagents, and laboratory samples.

  • Track and log out expired chemicals and reagents in compliance with SOPs
  • Dispose expired or completed samples according to SOPs and safety requirements
  • Maintain accurate sample documentation in compliance with SOPs.
  • Prepare, package, and ship samples to clients and/or external laboratories in accordance with SOP

  • Laboratory Housekeeping

  • Perform routine cleaning and organization of laboratory work areas.

  • Ensure all chemicals, reagents, and consumables are properly labeled and stored.

  • Glassware Cleaning

  • Clean, rinse, and dry laboratory glassware in compliance with in-house SOPs.

  • Ensure glassware is properly stored and available for laboratory use.

  • Procurement & Supplies

  • Assist in creating purchase orders (POs) and ordering laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables.

  • Monitor stock levels and support inventory control to avoid shortages.

  • Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Support compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and internal quality standards.
  • Adhere to Good Documentation Practices (GDP) in all assigned tasks.

  • Additional Duties

  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by laboratory management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and SOPs accurately
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school graduate or above (diploma or equivalent required)
  • Prior laboratory experience preferred but not mandatory (on-the-job training provided)
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and chemical handling

A little about the role:

The successful candidate will work closely with faculty, students, and canines during lab classes. This may include, but not be limited to, reviewing basic skills with handlers in a lab setting, organizing equipment prior to and during lab sessions, demonstrating canine handling techniques, and assisting faculty with practical lab assessments.

As a successful applicant you'll have:

  • Specialized training such as certified Professional Dog Trainer or other dog training certification - required
  • Level 2 Certified Services Dog Trainer - preferred

  • Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • 3 years of related experience in dog training and handling using R+ techniques.
  • Experience coaching groups in an educational setting is an asset

Hours: Casual up to 45 hours total, as needed and as scheduled by supervisor. Evening and weekend work may be required

**Essential Functions**
+ Prepares, delivers, and picks up items in accordance with health and safety regulations and laboratory policies to ensure specimen integrity, quality patient care, and caregiver safety.
+ Collects and labels specimens for requested testing, processes specimen according to established guidelines and completes documentation for the specimen.
+ Performs data entry of patient demographics and tests ordered. Performs all paperwork, technical, and nontechnical procedures required to process and submit specimens.
+ Receives, handles, sorts, processes, or packages specimens.
+ Receives and makes telephone calls and uses computer terminal and reference guides to provide information and answer questions from clients and patients, regarding specimen requirements, test results and other client requests.
+ Performs waived testing as assigned. Recognizes abnormal results and follows up as defined in standard operating procedures.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.

**Education**
+ High School Diploma Preferred: or equivalent
**Experience**
+ Preferred: Prior clinical laboratory experience
**Credentials**
+ Preferred: Upon Hire Drivers License Valid driver's license for driving positions
**Skills**
+ Able to approach, communicate and positively interact with patients and health care professionals while performing their duties, frequently under stressful conditions. (Required)
+ Able to work without supervision but know when to consult with supervisory personnel for assistance in determining appropriate actions. (Required)
+ Able to use the electronic laboratory information system. Must perform work activities in accordance with established policies and procedures. (Required)
+ Able to recognize the various levels of service (routine to critical) demanded of the laboratory and prioritize work and adjust working style to accommodate said demands. (Required)
+ Able to prioritize effectively and manage multiple tasks at one time. (Required)

+ Pasco, Washington - bilingual in English and Spanish required.
**Working Conditions**
Lifting
+ Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
+ Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
+ Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment, frequently.
+ Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 5 lbs.
+ Push/Pull: Frequently up to 10 lbs. force.
+ Reaching frequently.
+ Squat/ kneel occasionally.
Environmental Conditions
+ Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
