Position Summary

Hanson College is seeking an experienced and bilingual French as a Second Language (FSL) Instructor to lead and deliver French language training designed for international students pursuing immigration goals in Canada. This unique position combines curriculum oversight and instructor leadership with hands-on teaching responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about adult language education, well-versed in French proficiency testing (e.g., TEF Canada, TCF), and committed to student success in real-world contexts, including post-graduation settlement and career readiness.

What You Will Do:

  • Design, implement, and maintain high-quality FSL programming aligned with CLB levels and Canadian immigration benchmarks.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the French language program, including scheduling, curriculum updates, and student support.
  • Supervise and support part-time or contract French instructors; ensure consistency and quality in teaching delivery.
  • Monitor program performance through assessments, student feedback, and progress reports.
  • Liaise with the supervisor to align language training with learners academic and immigration goals.
  • Ensure teaching methods are culturally responsive and effective for multilingual adult learners.
  • Integrate TEF/TCF preparation.
  • Deliver engaging, level-appropriate FSL instruction to diverse adult learners.
  • Prepare and deliver in-person lessons using a variety of teaching tools and resources.
  • Assess learner progress and provide individualized feedback and support.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and goal-driven classroom environment.
  • Support learners in preparing for official French language tests (e.g., TEF Canada, TCF).
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.


What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelors degree in French, Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in FSL instruction for adult learners; supervisory or coordination experience is an asset.
  • Experience working with international students or newcomers to Canada is highly preferred.
  • Effective communicator with a positive and flexible attitude.
  • Proficient in classroom technology and virtual teaching tools (e.g., Teams, Zoom, Google Classroom).
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed. Some evenings or weekends may be required based on student schedules.

  • Ensures student progress is tracked effectively and accurately
  • Implements and incorporates Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) practices and Assessment for Learning principles as directed

Education, Training and Experience:

The purposes of this position are:
 

  • To provide assistance in Ojibwe Language instruction, educational programs and other learning activities for children within the policies and procedures established by Chief and Council, Chief Operating Officer and as directed by the Manager of the O’Shkiigmong Early Learning Centre

The duties and responsibilities of this position are categorized into three main functions:
 
  1. Educational
  • Responsible for providing Ojibwe language instruction for O’Shkiigmong Early Learning Centre children and staff
  • Responsible for providing in and out of Day Care learning activities for children and staff
  • Responsible for supervising children on a one on one and group basis
  • Responsible for assisting in the operation of O’Shkiigmong Early Learning Centre facilities.
  • Working with RECE’s and Supervisors based on children’s interest.
 
  1. Physical   
  • Responsible for all manual preparations in regards to outings taking place at Kutang Island
  • Responsible for preparing a nutritious menu for the summer program at Kutang Island with supervisor’s assistance.
  • Responsible for storage and packing of supplies and equipment
  • Responsible for all health and safety requirements during cultural activities
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of boats and island.
  • Responsible for Island grounds and structural maintenance.
  • Teepee fires and maintenance.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking committed educators who meet the following criteria:

English Fluency
• Native-level proficiency in spoken and written English

Bachelor’s Degree or Higher
• A degree in Education or a related field is preferred but not required

Valid Teaching Certification
• A state- or province-issued teaching license or certificate (K–12 level preferred) or 
• ESL certification such as TESOL/TEFL 

Teaching Experience
• Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in public, private, or charter schools (domestic or international)
• Online teaching experience is a bonus but not required

Technical Requirements
To ensure smooth online teaching, you must have:
• A Windows computer with Intel Core i5 8th generation or higher
• A stable high-speed internet connection
• Ability to teach using the Classpod platform (system compatibility test required)

Teaching Schedule & Compensation

⏰ Peak Hours (Beijing Time, GMT+8):
• Weekdays: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
• Weekends: Flexible availability all day is highly encouraged

⌛ Minimum Commitment:
• 10 hours per week
• Flexible scheduling based on your availability
• Ideal for teachers looking to build a consistent schedule or gradually increase hours

Compensation:
• Competitive hourly rate: $14–$24 USD/hour
• Opportunities for pay increases based on performance and student volume
