Your role:We are looking for a Lead UX Designer to join our design team at Global Relay. You will be hands on, pragmatic, and confident leading complex design work. You will help shape new AI powered experiences across our Archiving platform and collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and engineers to ensure what we ship is thoughtful and useful for our clients.
The teamYou'll be part of a growing design team spread across London, Vancouver, and New York. We work closely together but give people autonomy to own their work. The environment is friendly, fast-paced, and focused on doing great work.
LocationThis role is based in Vancouver, hybrid (2 days in the office per week).
Your responsibilities: Lead DesignYou will take ownership of UX design across key parts of our AI project, from discovery all the way to exploration and delivery. You will define user journeys, create clear documentation and new patterns where needed, and work with our engineering team to bring it to life.
You will not manage people directly, but you will lead by example by supporting other designers through peer feedback, design reviews, and helping to keep the quality high across the board
You will coordinate closely with your UX manager and the cross functional teams to align design work with user requirements, business goals and timelines.
Apply design thinking to AI functionalityThis is a critical role in shaping how we design for AI. You will need to understand how AI impacts usability, trust, transparency, and user control.
About You:- Strong end-to-end UX design experience across research, interaction design, and usability testing
- Ability to lead cross functional projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Good understanding of how to design for and with AI technologies
- Clear, structured communication and documentation skills
- University degree in psychology, human-computer interaction, or other UX related field
- Experience in enterprise or compliance industries
- Experience in banking or finance
Compensation:
Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia's pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.
The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values. We aim to foster an inspiring work environment and support employees' work-life rhythms. We provide a comprehensive extended health benefits program, including virtual healthcare and a wellness allowance. Employees also receive annual allotted vacation days, which increase based on tenure. British Columbia - Base salary range
$110,000—$150,000 CAD

The Role

As a Lead UX Designer youll focus on the user experience using your design expertise to deliver compelling products that result in exceptional outcomes for Minga teachers and students. Reporting to the VP of Product, you will own and drive projects independently, with ample opportunity to collaborate with a growing design and product development team. In this role, youll shape both our product and the evolution of our UX Design practice, setting the bar for standards, process, and impact.
What Youll Do
- Design Mentor You coach and guide other designers through regular critique, 1:1 mentorship, and paired work. You raise the bar for user-centred thinking, process, and craft, helping others grow in their practice and contribute more effectively to the team.
- User-Centred Strategist You represent the user while driving alignment across teams. Grounded in research and user insight, you help shape product direction through clear communication, cross-functional collaboration, and thoughtful negotiation of trade-offs. You ensure that design is not only user-centred, but also well-integrated into broader product and business goals.
- Design Thinker: You use design thinking to move through customer interviews, problem statements, solution hypotheses, rapid prototypes and high fidelity designs efficiently and without sacrificing quality.
- Facilitator: You facilitate design workshops for cross-functional teams and collaborate closely with product leadership and other UX designers to continuously improve Mingas design practice.
- Researcher: Influence UX Design direction based on quantitative and qualitative user research techniques that inform everything from product innovation, to usability optimizations.
- Design Systems Builder: Contribute to a scalable design system that drives platform consistency across all user experiences.
- Design Systems Owner You lead the evolution of our design system, working closely with engineering and product peers to ensure high-quality, consistent experiences at scale
What We Require
- 5+ years of experience in a UX Design role
- A portfolio that clearly shows your ability to lead design strategy, elevate product quality, and mentor others
- Strong communication and facilitation skills in design contexts (critiques, discussions, and presentations)
- Experience building and scaling design systems in SaaS or multi-user environments
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative user research techniques and the ability to leverage data to make and measure decisions.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders and teams including Product Management, Support, Marketing, and Engineering
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to host design critiques and present your work to partners and stakeholders.
- A desire to share work early and often, learning from mistakes with humility while seeking out expertise to continuously improve your practice.
Bonus If You Have
- Experience designing for the needs of K-12 SaaS platforms, including workflows involving multiple users, roles, and permissions
- Previous contributions to establishing and evolving a design system
- Experience in planning and setting up user research and synthesizing research insights
- An understanding of modern technology standards that affect user experiences (HTML, CSS, and Javascript etc.)
