We’re looking for part-time Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our Nursing Care team at Ocean Front Village in Courtenay, BC . There are opportunities to work in Long-term Care and/or in the Hospice area of the Village. Our LPNs will be responsible for creating effective care plans for residents, adjusting as needed and ensuring that a high standard of practice is met at all times in the delivery of care. The successful candidate will be a registered LPN and an exceptional team player, with a strong ability to lead and a passion for providing high quality care and support for seniors.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Ensures comprehensive care plans, tailored to the resident’s short and long term requirements, are developed, updated and regularly evaluated for effectiveness.
- Fosters a warm, friendly and caring environment for residents and co-workers.
- Participates in decision-making relating to matters of health and safety, resident care, and staffing.
- Assesses changing care levels while ensuring routines are adjusted to meet needs of residents.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff involved in the provision of resident care by mentoring and role modeling, fostering and promoting new initiatives.
- Participates in direct nursing care, including administration of medications, medical treatments and procedures as per provincial regulations and established policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with and/or take direction from a RN where appropriate.
- Attends staff in-service, continuing education workshops/courses and work-related seminars.
- Ensures that resident’s rights to privacy, dignity, respect, and choice are consistently met.
- Reviews and implementing care related policies and procedures, while seeking assistance from RN peers where appropriate.
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- Successful completion of recognized Licensed Practical Nursing Program, with current LPN certification in British Columbia (active with the BCCNM).
- Level 1 OFA First Aid Certificate.
- Knowledge and experience with social models of care is strongly favored.
- Working knowledge of MDS/InterRAI.
- Knowledge of quality improvement, emergency procedures, and WHMIS.
- Strong ability to prioritize effectively to meet tight deadlines.
- Capable of work which involves extended periods of walking and standing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills.
- Capable of carrying out significant lifting, carrying, bending and reaching – with appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Possesses a Clear Vulnerable Sector- Criminal Record Check.
- Can provide a negative TB Screening, and complete Immunization Record.
- Able to provide proof of full and current COVID-19 vaccines.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator, and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the LPN provides a broad range of nursing functions and direct care; including psychiatric and physical assessments, crisis interventions, medication administration, group facilitation and other duties as required.
The LPN role is in accordance with the LPN scope of practice and clinical direction is provided by the RPN/RN on duty. The LPN is responsible for implementing the delivery of trauma-informed care for people that may have or have experienced homelessness, severe addictions, mental illness, concurrent disorders, trauma and family, cultural and community disconnection. Clients may also have involvement in the criminal justice or forensic systems. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the nurse shares information with team and other professionals in relation to client progress, care planning and interventions.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized program for Licensed Practical Nurses and ability to maintain full practising license with the BCCNM
- Ability to provide/obtain the following upon hire:
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License
- Valid First Aid Certificate (“Emergency First Aid – Community Care” or equivalent)
- Criminal Records Clearance from the BC Ministry of Justice.
- Tuberculosis Clearance (Done within the past 6 months)
- Immunization Records
- WHMIS Certificate
Knowledge and Abilities
- A good understanding of the issues facing women / men with complex needs related to psychiatric disability, addiction, past trauma / victimization.

- Knowledge of housing issues and community resources in Metro Vancouver.
