Position Summary 

As a Machine Technician in our North American Service Delivery group, you will be responsible for ensuring the continuing operation of CBN equipment that produces high-security printed products for our customer. We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented professional to manage client issues and operational problems submitted through our ticketing system. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, timely resolution of issues, and maintaining client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Customer Support and Issue Resolution

  • Monitor and maintain CBN equipment located at customer sites and perform basic hardware repair and maintenance on workstations, high-speed and desktop automated laser engravers, printers, laminators, power supplies, battery back-up, batteries, and other hardware as required.
  • Triage customer issues and perform 1st level support for hardware, software, and basic networking problems. Ensure that all issues are addressed, escalated (if needed), and resolved within the parameters of CBN’s contractual Service Level Agreement.
  • Liaise with the Regional Service Manager to ensure timely and efficient service delivery.

Specialist Knowledge and Documentation

  • Become a subject matter expert (SME) on our security printing solutions and associated equipment and machinery.
  • Once you have acquired the skills and knowledge that will allow you to travel independently to customer sites to plan, perform, and troubleshoot hardware and software installations, create documentation that will grow the existing knowledge base.
Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering/Technology, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Mechanical systems (gears, bearing, pneumatics)
    • Electrical systems (voltage, amperage, resistance, circuits, wiring)
    • Diagnostic tools and methodology

Soft Skills and Competencies

  • Critical thinking skills

Experience

Mandatory Requirements 

  • Language:  Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Physical Demands:  Ability to stand for prolonged periods (machine repairs and maintenance)
  • Hours:  Ability to work outside of normal business hours (Some on-call/after-hours work/travel occasionally required for repairs.
  • Travel:  Ability to travel domestically and internationally for initial training (passport required)
    • Domestic travel within Canada as per below:
      • Travel to local customer sites (lower mainland) approx. 1-3x/week
      • Travel (fly) to remote sites within Canada, approximately 2-3 days/every couple of months (dependent on operational needs)
  • Security Clearance:  Ability to obtain (in a reasonable timeframe) and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) clearance.

Job Summary:

The machine setup technician's role at our Windsor Mold Tooling facility is to support the machining department by completing workpiece setup on CNC machines, material handling using both overhead crane and forklift, completing basic machine maintenance, housekeeping and other general labor duties.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret detailed drawings, assembly procedures, routing cards, schematics, and bills of materials.
  • Assembly of transducer products and systems including mechanical assembly, bonded assembly, electro-mechanical assembly, encapsulation and modification of components using workshop tooling.
  • Conduct Product Tests such as Hydrostatic pressure testing, receive inspection of complex machined components, load testing, environmental testing and electro-acoustic test and characterization while using a variety of test devices and methods.
  • Complete and maintain detailed product build and test documentation, assess product compliance to established quality standards, and sign-off of key build stages.
  • Contribute to refinement of product design, build documentation and processes through record of changes and red-lines for review during product assembly.
  • Working as part of a skilled interdisciplinary team to resolve production and assembly issues while working with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Prepare materials for assembly using solvent cleaning and abrasive surface preparation.
  • Use various chemicals, adhesives, and compounds to encapsulate and bond parts.
  • Record actions taken by completing production and quality forms in accordance with ISO9001 requirements.
  • Identify products or parts that do not meet quality standards and follow quarantine procedures as required.
  • Maintain a clean, hazard free workstation by cleaning and maintain equipment, tidying production floor and complying with health and safety procedures, rules and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Formal Technician or Technology training from a recognized college or university.
  • Prior experience working with equipment for underwater use including electro-mechanical devices
  • Experience in the assembly of complex mechanical systems and components, test engineering, bonded assembly or encapsulation considered an asset.
  • Proficient computer literacy suitable for update and release of documents and referencing technical documentation.
  • Strong reading comprehension, writing and documentation skills.
  • Experience, or willingness to learn, engineering documentation.
  • Solution-oriented and can identify and solve problems.
  • Occupational Health and Safety and WHMIS certification (or ability to successfully obtain)

  • Preventative Maintenance, repair and implementation of work orders on diverse production equipment
  • Troubleshooting electrical and pneumatic control circuits
  • Troubleshooting mechanical failures
  • Troubleshooting robotic and servo systems
  • Heavy emphasis on machine electrical assistance
  • Manage activities and track results using Leading 2 Lean

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education

  • 3 year Electro/Mechanical Technologist Diploma

Experience

  • Working knowledge and experience in pneumatics
  • Working knowledge of PLC controls
  • SMT experience required
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask

Please note: this is NOT an IT job - we are looking for someone with electrical and mechanical experience. This is a direct-hire position: that means you will be on our client's payroll from day 1! The Mechanical Technician is part of the engineering team and supports the diagnosis, repair, and optimization of locomotive mechanical systems. Responsibilities include failure analysis, performance testing, and technical modifications. The Mechanical Technician requires strong technical expertise, sharp analytical skills, and a high level of rigor in documentation and compliance with standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in trouble shooting mechanical issues with locomotives, such as malfunctions in engines, compressors, cooling systems and trucks.
  • Identify problematic systems/parts to ascertain performance failures using diagnostic and faultfinding techniques.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications.
  • Assist in the development of modifications and equipment testing.
  • Interface with client and supplier technical staff to identify technical reliability solutions.
  • Work with electrical teams to address system integrations and performance enhancements
  • Write technical reports, intervention reports and maintain technical documentation.
  • Participate in training programs to stay current with technological advancements in locomotive mechanical systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • DEC in Mechanical Engineering Technology or relevant experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar position
  • Ability to read with accuracy diesel engine manuals, locomotive schematics, service bulletins, maintenance instructions and other craft related documentation.
  • Ability to read and understand FRA and company rules, specifications and guidelines.
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD & Solidworks an asset
  • Good organizational skills, autonomy, attention to detail, and rigor
  • Ability to work under pressure and good priority management
  • Attention to detail, precision, analytical skills, autonomy, and good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written.
