Our team is expanding and looking to add a Machining Engineer . We are looking for a dynamic and driven candidate who is interested in joining a fast-growing global company in the automotive sector.

Machining Engineer will be responsible for leading the review of processes, equipment, and drawings when introducing new products or projects. Evaluate project feasibility and provide professional recommendations. Monitor debugging progress, collaborate with teams, and offer technical support to address any debugging challenges. Track and document process issues to ensure projects proceed as scheduled. Other responsibilities include:

  • Based on data analysis and process monitoring, maintain a stable CNC machining quality pass rate by identifying influencing factors and addressing them promptly. Optimize the manufacturing process and introduce advanced technologies to further enhance the pass rate.
  • During mass production, swiftly identify and resolve process issues to ensure the smooth operation of the production line and minimize product defects. Optimize process parameters to improve the stability of product quality, reduce defect rates, and increase production efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain process documents and standards that comply with both production and industry norms, updating them as required to reflect technological advancements and changing demands.
  • Formulate and implement a comprehensive training plan for technical personnel, enhancing their professional skills through internal training sessions and external workshops, thereby building an efficient and competent process team.

To qualify for this role you must meet the following:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining, debugging, and maintenance, with a thorough understanding of the characteristics of various processing materials
  • Proficient in interpreting and reviewing complex mechanical drawings to ensure accurate processing standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and strong cross-cultural communication skills
  • Bilingual - Mandarin and English is a plus

Job Description:

We are looking for a Machinist Technician to join our growing team and support our fast-paced, high-volume, made-to-order Sprocket Manufacturer in the beautiful South Slocan, BC. We offer a relaxed and human-centric and inclusive environment where our team members are encouraged to be themselves and learn in a safe atmosphere.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate manual and CNC machining equipment proficiently, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
  • Independently set up machines, load materials, and ensure optimal performance throughout machining processes.
  • Read and interpret production orders, blueprints, and specifications accurately.
  • Precisely measure and mark materials according to specifications. Utilize machine tools to cut, shape, and assemble steel and other metals with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Perform finishing and deburring operations on machined parts to meet quality standards.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of final products to ensure conformance to quality specifications.
  • Assist in loading and unloading raw materials as required for machining operations.
  • Participate in machinery maintenance activities when necessary to uphold operational efficiency.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards within the work area in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities as needed to facilitate the flow of materials and products.
  • Collaborate closely with team members to identify and implement process improvements for optimizing machining processes.
  • Demonstrate unwavering commitment to quality, precision, and attention to detail in all tasks performed.


Qualifications :

  • Solid understanding of machining principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on proficiency.

  • Working knowledge of machining tools and equipment.

Position Summary

The Machining Supervisor is responsible for leading, motivating, and coaching a team of Machining Operators to ensure efficient and high-quality production within the Wood Machining department. This role involves overseeing daily operations, troubleshooting issues, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, and driving continuous improvement. The Supervisor will utilize their expertise in CNC, Edge banding, and/or Panel Saw operations to optimize production schedules and train team members. They will be responsible for performing routine and varied tasks in alignment with production processes within the wood machining department and will be required to support their job functions while cross-training on positions as required and will be required to comply with SOPs and quality standards of products while adhering to Health & Safety and BRC policies on a consistent basis.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and establish daily work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet daily production targets.
  • Monitor machinery production lines and troubleshoot issues in software and hardware.
  • Manage production output as per the plan of the Production Planner and Production Manager; Collaborates effectively with team members to ensure productivity, efficiency, and adherence to daily and weekly production schedules.
  • Monitor productivity throughout the shift and adjust tasks, timing, and equipment setups to meet production specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate production reports.
  • Manage Workforce Efficiency ($/Mh) and monitor overtime hours.
  • Expertly perform regular woodworking machining duties, including setting up, programming, and operating CNC primarily, and should the position require, completing the same for Edge banding, and Panel Saw equipment.
  • Follows work order procedures while ensuring safe operating practices are met.
  • Ultimately responsible for the quality output of the machining department.
  • Maintains production quality based on companies’ criteria.
  • Understand and read drawings, sketches, BOM, and perform dimensional inspections.
  • Follows standard daily and preventative maintenance procedures such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, replacing parts and tooling as necessary.
  • Monitors the machinery production lines, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and report product and equipment malfunctions to the Production Manager.
  • Independently find solutions for departmental problems that arise in a timely manner communicate/report challenges to the Production Manager.
  • Understand and edit CNC programs primarily and supports Edgebanding/Panel Saw programs per management approvals received.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices.
  • Work in cooperation with the Quality department to conduct root-cause analysis and improve overall quality; Prioritizes quality control, ensuring parts meet defined standards, collecting necessary components for each order, and inspecting pieces for defects.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, guidelines, and company policies.
  • Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WSIB protocols, and other relevant regulations.
  • Ensure all team members are working safely and using appropriate PPE.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area and train employees to do so as well. Foster positive working relationships within the department and BRC through respect, courtesy, and effective communication.
  • Works overtime as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned from time to time at the discretion of management.

Requirements

  • A minimum of secondary school diploma; ideally has a college diploma and/or a Supervisory Certificate.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of Supervisory experience and CNC Machine Operating experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a furniture or store fixture environment.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of CNC and editing its programs preferably, and knowledge and experience with Edgebanding and Panel Saw Programs is considered an asset.
  • Good understanding of good product quality and production methods/ manufacturing practices.
  • Certificate courses in CNC/ Edgebanding/ Panel Saw machining, Carpentry or other woodworking fields is an asset.
  • Experience using a Point-to-Point Router.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing operations and techniques including Lean, 5S. Ideally, knowledgeable of an ERP system and aware how MRP functions and its relation to scheduling.
  • Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ideally, knowledgeable of ERP/Database programs.
  • Proven ability to focus on the Customer and act with the Customer in mind; value importance of providing high-quality products on a timely basis.
  • Ability to achieve results and perform work with energy and drive.
  • Knowledge of warehouse safety regulations and practices in a warehouse setting to ensure a safe and secure working environment.
  • Proficiency in use of hand tools. Ability to operate warehouse equipment, such as Forklifts, Pallet jacks, and Hand trucks. Asset: Valid Forklift License.
  • Good hand and eye co-ordination and muscular control sufficient to operate tools or equipment and to see closely and/or listen intently in order to achieve very detailed results and/or detect flaws or errors.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects may be required.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Will be required to stand for 8 hours a day.
  • Hours of Work: 12:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  • May be required to work overtime and/ or on weekends, as required.
  • Work on site at the Company.
  • May be exposed to hazards associated with manufacturing.
  • May be required to use PPE.
