RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Repair and troubleshoot mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics and conveying systems.
• Read blueprints, schematics, and welding procedures.
• Assist and work alongside all members of the Production Department.
• Assist the Production Department with job changes.
• Lubricates Kiln Car wheels and assists on bearing or wheel changes.
• Actively participates in maintenance shutdowns scheduled or unscheduled overtime will be required at times.
• Work in a safe and efficiently manner, according to company policies.
• Monitors Dust Collector system.
• Actively supports other crewmembers, when required.
• Reports Maintenance requests to the Supervisor and/or Lead Hands

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• 4+ years Maintenance Mechanic experience.
• Conveying, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electrical, Pipefitting, Welding and Plumbing skills.
• An understanding of PLC and VFD System.

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the ongoing repair and general maintenance of all equipment in the Central Facility, reporting any issues to their Supervisor / Manager. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment within the plant to ensure the ongoing and reliable operation of plant equipment and systems to maintain targeted throughput and efficiency standards
• Assess, report on, promote and carry out process improvements initiatives, specifically with regard to machine and/or system reliability and improved performance
• Perform all daily checks as per TSSA requirements on the ammonia & water tower systems and manage TSSA inspection visits and be the direct contact with inspector on corrective actions
• Assist with setting up and maintaining the preventive maintenance program, carry out maintenance activities, work orders, and replacement or repair of defective parts, components or system performance testing and update files and records of work and equipment as required
• Perform part replacement using manufacturing recommendations and update maintenance and parts records using a computerized maintenance management system
• Evaluate condition of instrumentation, devices and parts in operations by checking calibration, listening to their sounds, verifying pressures, temperatures, etc. to detect imperfections
• Maintain files, records, line diagrams, etc. of electrical and instrumentation equipment and installations
• Complete required documentation, log books, timesheets, etc. when executing duties to ensure compliance
• Adhere to and fully participate in the company's Food Safety, Health & Safety, Environmental and Management system and maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times
• Direct and lead contractors during plant shutdowns and assist in the set up of new stores, installations and project work as required
• Respond to “off” hours emergencies as required and be on scheduled “on call” rotation as well as provide essential services coverage during plant shutdowns and Statutory holidays Work in a self-directed manner by managing time and tasks to complete work assigned
• Champion and implement at least one continuous improvement activity each year
• May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in Refrigeration and equipment maintenance and repairs with current Ammonia Refrigeration Operator Class B license
• Experience with CMMS would be considered an asset
• Strong computer skills and ability to read, write and/or interpret reports, mechanical and civil drawings and sketches
• Good time management skills and ability to work independently with little supervision
• Good organizational skills with high standards of cleanliness  
• Personable and outgoing with strong communication skills
• Ability to climb ladder and use general maintenance tools and equipment
• Knowledge of Food, Health and Safety regulations in a manufacturing environment
• Dependable, trustworthy and must be bondable
• Flexible as to hours and days of work with the ability to travel
• Certification in CPR/First Aid would be an asset

• Occasional requirement to wear cumbersome protective clothing or equipment

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, we are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic. You will be responsible for ensuring that plant production equipment is well-maintained and in good operational condition, so that we can meet or exceed our planned quality and production requirements.

This is an afternoon shift, Monday through Friday, 3 PM - 11 PM, with some overtime on Saturdays.

• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment. You will ensure that automated food production equipment is ready for operation at the start of each shift. • Take ownership. You will manage your time effectively, maintain accountability for personal tools, and uphold safety, quality, and industry standards in a food manufacturing environment.

What you bring:

• The experience. You have a high school diploma or equivalent. You have experience as a maintenance worker, preferably in food manufacturing or flexible packaging with plastics.
• The technical skills. You possess the mechanical knowledge and skills to set up and maintain equipment in a manufacturing and packaging facility, including packaging equipment such as carton box formers, box sealers, case packagers, case coders, labellers, and ideally form-fill-seal or flexible packaging machines. You can use a computer and a handheld device. You can easily come up to speed on how to safely start, operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment. You are proficient in addition, subtraction and fractions. Understands temperature and weight measures.
• The interpersonal skills. You possess strong communication skills, enabling you to clearly explain complex mechanical concepts to others, document issues effectively, and generate accurate reports. You can work independently, hold yourself accountable for adhering to a schedule and meeting deadlines, and collaborate within and across teams.
