1. Position Summary and Job Magnitude
The Maintenance Services Representative must ensure that the entire building is in safe and good working order at all times. This includes a combination of preventative maintenance tasks, daily repair requisitions, and supporting outside contractors when on site.
2. Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Preventative maintenance is necessary for all aspects of keeping the building running smoothly. Some of the responsibilities involved with this position include but are not limited to:
- Daily checks of the building and equipment
- Greasing bearings, replacing filters and belts on equipment as per maintenance schedules
- Check utility meters on daily basis to monitor consumption.
- Check standpipes and fire panel on a daily basis
- Check all fire extinguishers are at their proper levels and intact
- Keep detailed records of all maintenance and inspections
- Any other preventative maintenance as required
Daily repair requisitions are to be completed in a timely fashion to ensure proper building operation and customer satisfaction. Tasks can include, but are not limited to:
- Replacing or repairing burnt out lights and fixtures
- Moving furniture and appliances
- Basic plumbing repairs and replacements, including unclogging toilets
- Fixing damaged sections of drywall
- Maintaining interior finishes, including vinyl wall coverings and painting
- General janitorial tasks such as garbage collection and spill cleanups
- Keep detailed records of all work
- Any other maintenance or janitorial duties as required or asked to perform
The maintenance person’s role can be strenuous and requires the individual to be in good physical condition. Physical demands include:
- Climbing ladders
- Moving appliances and furniture
- Repetitive lifting of up to 60lbs
- Cardio vascular endurance for tasks such as snow removal and climbing stairs
- Working in confined spaces, including lying on their side or working on their knees for up to 30 minute.
- Ability to grip and manipulate basic hand tools and parts
- Hand dexterity and fine motor skills for working with small parts
- Repetitive reaching or working above their head
- Majority of the working day spent standing conducting repairs and maintenance
Health & Safety
- Work in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the OHSA, regulations, and Campus Living Centres (e.g. wearing safety shoes, confining hair, jewelry, or loose clothing around moving parts, etc.).
- Online training modules and in-person training must be completed before starting regular duties.
- WHMIS 2015 and GHS system, and standard operating procedures training must be completed prior to beginning regular duties.
3. Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma, Recognized College Diploma preferred
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of commercial electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems
- Must be competent with general physical plant repairs
- Must possess positive attitude towards work and learning
- Must be able to handle multiple projects at once
Experience Required : Minimum of 1 year industry experience or equivalent

Maintenance Technician - Food MfgShift: 8 to 12 hours rotationalWe are seeking a mechanically skilled individual who can work on maintaining plant systems and equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting, and repairing any issues which may arise during production, restoring, repairing, rebuilding, or replacing faulty or inoperative components and parts. Equipment used in this food processing facility includes industrial, electromechanical, and hydraulic equipment as well as pumps and conveying systems.
The Maintenance Mechanic must be able to troubleshoot, install, align, dismantle, and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces, generators, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, packaging machines, VFDs, PLCs, etc…
Other duties include.
- Inspect and examine machinery (conveyors, packers, seasoners, sensors, PLCs, VFDs, etc.) to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
- Perform maintenance tasks according to work orders (cleaning, lubrication, etc.)
- Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts.
- Perform good troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment break downs.
- Has a pro-active mindset; finds solutions to different problems and complexities.
- Can adapt and learn quickly to problems. Can operate in a high-pressure environment.
- Perform daily maintenance and repairs needed in the production area.
- Setup, take-down, and relocation of Processing and Packaging equipment.
- Comfortable with electrical & PLC Controls
- Follows safety and food safety protocols
- Stays on call for emergency repairs of production equipment.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience & Skills:
- Post-Secondary Education in a mechanical trade.
- 4+ years' experience as a field service technician or field repair technician in a food manufacturing environment.
- Strong proven skills in automation and troubleshooting.
- Good judgement and decision-making skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to use hand and power tools.
- Must be able to work a rotating shift as well as some extended hours and weekends.
- Welding will be considered an asset.
Work Environment
The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This job is performed in a shop environment: hazardous materials; greasy, slippery factory floors. WHAT’S THE JOB?

As a Facility Maintenance Technician , reporting to Operations Manager, you will conduct general building maintenance for National Defence sites in Thunder Bay, ON . This position will also respond to reactive maintenance calls after hours and weekends on call.
Your work will include:
- Completes a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: general upkeep and repair, painting, landscaping, snow blowing, carpentry, plumbing, and other tasks as required
- Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and works safety, TSSA.
- Conducts risk assessments and developed pre-work safety plans / job plans.
- Estimates time and materials needed to complete repair.
- In partnership with the planner, orders necessary materials and supplies to complete all tasks.
- Maintain a professional courteous manner and communication with client, employees, vendors, contractors and fellow employees.
- Maintains tools and materials for the work site.
- Perform other related duties as required and as assigned by Contract Representatives.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and control drawings; knowledge of building automation systems, building fabric, HVAC systems, electrical systems, etc.
- Must be organized and provide deliverables in support of project plans.
- Researches specifications, drawings, and O&M manuals to make repairs and adjustments as necessary.
- Must have a clean driver’s license and abstract
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
- Computer literate and familiar with MS word, excel, and databases
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be comfortable and able to work on a ladder. Working at Heights. Lifts, and rooftops.
- A clear criminal record check is required for this role and have more than 5 years of Canadian Citizenship for security clearence for National Defence sites.
