The Maintenance Utility Worker is an integral part of the Maintenance Team, providing essential support to journeymen tradespeople and helping maintain a safe, clean, and well-prepared work environment. This role performs basic tasks such as cleaning, setup, and equipment preparation to keep maintenance activities running smoothly. The Maintenance Worker also assists with minor troubleshooting and repairs under supervision and is expected to use hand and power tools safely to support the team’s work.

Maint Responsibilities:

1. Assist tradespeople by preparing work areas, staging tools and materials, and performing supporting tasks during maintenance and repair activities.
2. Clean parts and equipment before and after servicing to maintain operational readiness and safety.
3. Safely operate and use hand tools and power tools for basic tasks, repairs, and preparation work.
4. Perform routine shop and equipment cleanup to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
5. Conduct basic mechanical or electrical troubleshooting under supervision to support maintenance work.
6. Handle, move, and store parts, materials, and equipment as needed to facilitate maintenance activities.
7. Assist with assembling, disassembling, or installing components under direction from maintenance staff.
8. Follow all safety procedures and site policies, including confined space entry, working at heights, and lockout/tagout.

11. Assist with loading and unloading parts and materials safely using appropriate equipment or manual handling techniques.
12. Transport tools, parts, and supplies to and from job sites within the facility as required.
13. Perform basic lubrication tasks under supervision, following standard procedures.
14. Assist with inventory checks and maintaining organization in storage areas or tool cribs.
15. Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues promptly to supervisors.
16. Assist in setting up barricades or signage to maintain safe work zones during maintenance.
17. Help test equipment after maintenance work under supervision to confirm proper operation.
18. Participate in routine safety talks, toolbox meetings, and other safety-related activities to support a strong safety culture.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a maintenance, industrial, or trades environment preferred.
• Basic familiarity with mechanical or electrical systems.
• Experience with welding or troubleshooting is considered an asset.
• Confined Space Entry certification (preferred but not required).
• Fall Arrest certification (preferred but not required).
• Boom Lift and Scissor Lift operator licenses (preferred but not required).
• Ability to complete any required site safety training.
• Understanding of basic mechanical or electrical maintenance practices.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.
• Capable of assisting tradespeople with physical tasks, material handling, and preparation work.
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely in an industrial setting.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills.

Work Environment:

Permanent position, offered on a full-time basis, from Monday to Friday. 

Duties require frequent and extended periods of outside and inside work, subject to all weather conditions and extremes; continuous walking, standing, climbing and frequent periods requiring sustained uncomfortable physical positions; regular and sustained periods of strenuous physical exertion, requiring the ability to lift, carry and position heavy objects utilizing proper body mechanics and techniques; operation of tools and equipment which cause loud noise and vibrations.

Reporting to the Manager, Supply and Distribution, the Utility Worker works as part of a team to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: moving furniture and/or equipment, including transport of cribs/beds/cots between units; transporting lab specimens to/from the Mackenzie Building and Tupper Research and within the Health Centre; picking/packing/delivering stock supplies requisitioned from the Stores area, completing the required paperwork and cleaning up materials; delivering throughout the Health Centre, items from Pharmacy, portable medical gas cylinders, prepared sterile items, clean case carts and clean instrument carts; collecting soiled linen and soiled instrument carts; completing exchange cart quotas and unit top-up quotas; dealing with customer inquiries/orders (including telephone requests) in a timely and professional manner, ensuring all necessary information is logged; providing relief for the Dispatch Clerk during absences from the Distribution desk; preparing and delivering medical/surgical and I.V. bins to the Birth Unit and collecting and sorting returned items to the bin prep area in Distribution; delivering direct purchase items from the Receiving area to ordering departments and ensuring that proper documentation is processed; providing after hours coverage of the CSPD, Laundry areas and the Pharmacy night cupboard; preparing linen distribution carts for delivery; delivering various linen carts as required; other related duties as assigned.

7.5 hour shifts. Includes weekdays, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

• Minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
• Previous work experience in Supply and Distribution an asset
• Able to attend and complete scheduled shifts on a regular and timely basis
• Flexibility in performing daily work assignments
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize daily tasks to ensure the needs of our customers are met
• Able to work effectively as part of a team and independently and to make sound decisions with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of hospital layout, computerized inventory systems and prior experience working in a team setting, preferred

Due to the growth of our business, we have an opening for a Transformer Assembler to join our team. The Transformer Assembly Technician winds and assembles components as per company specifications, including wiring of electrical components such as relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and sub-assemblies.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assemble and fit metal and other prefabricated parts to close tolerances according to blueprints to build transformers.
• Make electrical connections using crimping, soldering, and welding devices.
• Assemble and adjust production machinery and equipment, such as coil winding machines for transformers.
• Perform basic tests on electric motors, as required.
• Plan and implement solutions to mechanical problems with Supervisor’s help.
• Collaborate with other departments.
• Collect, record, and summarize inspection results.

Pearce/ Unified is seeking a Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Engineer) for Greater Toronto area, and surrounding areas, with a commitment to excellence and a strong desire to succeed and learn new skills. As a Critical Power Technician, you will directly support our customers in the onsite preventive, corrective, and restorative maintenance of their critical power systems (i.e., UPS, DC systems, inverters, PDUs, STS, and standalone reserve battery technologies). As a UPS Field Service Engineer for Unified Power, you will possess and utilize the 'hit-the-ground-running' and 'think-outside-the-box' mentalities that drive swift and superb solutions to address our customers' needs.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Field Engineer will include, but not be limited to:

• Commission, maintain and provide emergency support for power electronics at customer sites within the designated geographic area
• Perform preventive maintenance, equipment start-ups, field modifications and/or battery replacements
• Participate in the development of Methods of Procedures (MOP), when required
• Participate in regular training sessions held at the company's headquarters utilizing test equipment to enhance trouble-shooting skills
• Discuss problems related to maintenance or operation of equipment, with in-house and OEM technical support, when necessary
• Communicate with customer site personnel to keep them apprised of all onsite or equipment related issues

Requirements

• 3-5 years working in the critical power industry with UPS, DC Power Systems and/or OEM experience
• Technical degree or certificate
• Advanced ability to troubleshoot faults to component level on equipment such as UPS systems, batteries, DC power systems, PDU's, Inverter Systems, etc.
• Knowledge of equipment manufacturers (OEM) specifications
• Capable of utilizing hand tools and test equipment to perform work
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills
• Extremely customer service oriented

• Must be able to perform repeated bending & lifting of up to 100 pounds during certain services
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
