- Lead engineering projects from start to finish, ensuring timely completion, budget adherence, and alignment with customer requirements (PPAP and run at rate).
- Handle tasks across project phases, including timing, concept, feasibility studies, design, construction, and prototype programs.
- Monitor and follow-up on project progress with leadership to ensure goals are met.
- Conduct manpower efficiency studies using time and motion analysis, standard data, and other methodologies (e.g., MOST, Cosma CTC charts).
- Develop line balancing, manpower, and machine charts for flexible and efficient workflows.
- Support and contribute to continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
- Work with all departments and customers to design solutions that improve production efficiency, ergonomics, safety, and maintenance.
- Assist in creating and implementing material handling solutions (e.g., aisle layouts, bin placement, and dunnage assists).
- Review, monitor, and coordinate tooling design, build, approval process, and capital budgeting.
- Oversee equipment relocation and installation, ensuring effective integration into the Meadowvale plant.
- Assist with the setup of preventative maintenance programs for new equipment.
- Resolve quality concerns and support quick resolution of open issues within the engineering department.
- Manage and implement customer-approved engineering changes, ensuring accurate part-level communications, physical updates, and process modifications
- Collaborate with production departments, customers, and vendors to design packaging solutions that optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Review and coordinate custom packaging designs, including the build, approval process, and capital budgets.
- Prepare and maintain reports, charts, and other documentation for engineering projects.
- Keep plant layouts updated and support new business quoting processes by offering packaging recommendations and design concepts.
- Control CAD storage and manage the importing/exporting of CAD data.
- Create and review GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications for parts and assemblies

Education/Experience:
- Engineering Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a related role within a lean manufacturing environment (preferably automotive).
- Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, NX, Catia, Solidworks) is required.
- Experience in project management and cost/quote development is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including man/machine chart development, weld balancing, and operator timing.
- Knowledge of tooling design for assembly and stamping dies.
- Familiarity with safety standards (e.g., Z432, Reg 851, Reg 213) is preferred.
- Experience with engineering analysis tools such as PFMEA, DFMEA, 8D, and quality assurance methodologies.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and basic understanding of AutoCAD.
- Strong leadership and technical expertise, with a focus on mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams, customers, and external suppliers.
- Ability to lead projects and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Job Responsibilities:
Apply technical knowledge and expertise to ensure robust manufacturing process design prior to launch and lead production improvement projects. Manage manufacturing performance deliverables such as implementation of CI suggestions, scrap reduction initiatives and OEE improvements. Supporting technical and manufacturing solutions; including engineering and design to achieve goals and objectives relating to research and development, organizational projects and services for continuous improvement and risk reduction.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be proficient in hands-on process troubleshooting. Proving current production with "fast response" troubleshooting Must have demonstrated track record of initiating and implementing process cost reductions in Lean Manufacturing environment.
- Set up and maintain all work cell and/or department standardized work instructions/procedures for the extrusion process.
- Be responsible for product trials, setting up material trial runs, and conducting tests as per the die trial procedure
- Assist in training production personnel on operating new or existing tooling, equipment and processes.
- Improve current production part process capability and repeatability through the optimization of existing manufacturing processes Ability to work independently and draw from experience in all aspect of the job assigned
- Work closely with Project Management Team to support new product launches, engineering changes implementation and product / process continuous improvement initiatives and related activities.
- Complete all required APQP-related activities, ECR processes, PRP (8D), and all other Quality Management System requirements as needed Ensure compliance and enforcement of Customer Specific Requirements, QMS (IATF16949), Health and Safety (ISO 45001), EMS (ISO14001), and security (PIP) requirements.
- Conduct time studies, identify capacity constraints and opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce manufacturing costs
- Support in the development of Process Control Plans and Process Flow Charts
- Development and maintaining documentation for PFMEA, Operator Instructions, Rework, Change-over procedure and instruction, Manufacturing Engineering Open Issues, and Continuous Improvement Program
- Coordinate, lead, and participate in various multi-disciplined teams in addressing and fulfilling various corporate objectives associated with, manufacturing process, productivity, volume outputs, scrap/rework, quality, safety, and delivery commitment
- Optimize all parameters to attain maximum running efficiencies for each job through creation of Standardized Work procedures (line speeds, cycle times, TAKT times, etc.)
- Drive process change through regular maintenance of PFMEA's using the "Lessons Learned Database"
- Provide quote direction for new business related to tooling, new materials and processes as required Writing specifications, competitively quoting, negotiating, managing program timelines and budgets, buy-off, and commissioning in our facility.
- Work with our suppliers, as required to resolve process deviations. Reduce scrap and maximize efficiencies.
- Assist in part design activities with design source and provide feasibility directives for ease of manufacturing and reducing cost.
- Familiarity with various manufacturing processes such as Roll Forming, Extrusion and Injection Molding.

- Review tooling designs/gauges to ensure they are built to meet customer and Co-Ex-Tec requirements/standards, and will run to the quoted standard
- Review facilities and equipment requirements with relevant internal and external customers/suppliers

- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical, beverage, and food industries, with prior process engineering experience .

SciCan is located in Toronto near the intersection of Highways 401 and 404 (Don Mills and York Mills). It is accessible by public transportation.
We currently have an opening for a Manufacturing Engineer as part of our Continuous Improvement Department. This position is responsible to support production activities to ensure consistent high-quality output, productivity improvements and process robustness. This position will also work as a liaison between production and other SciCan departments from product development to the transfer of the product to manufacturing.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
- Identify and troubleshoot process, material, or equipment problems to minimize down time.
- Where possible, apply 6 sigma techniques in the resolution of process, quality, and system deficiencies.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and drive to closure with related parties. Recommend solutions to design team, if required
- Assist production personal in failure analysis and troubleshooting of non-conforming manufactured product to determine the root cause

Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering.
- 5 plus years of related experience in a manufacturing environment preferably with medical products.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and quality improvement methods, including Lean Manufacturing concepts
- Must be a self-starter, with the ability to work both alone/with minimal supervision and in team environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to conduct root cause analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis)
- Excellent computer and data analysis skills. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office, CAD (Creo preferably), and CMMS systems.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt, Black Belt) or equivalent will be an asset.
- Familiarity with ISO13485 and general product safety requirements such as CSA, UL, TUV will be an asset

We currently have an opening for a Manufacturing Engineer as part of our Continuous Improvement Department. This position is responsible to support production activities to ensure consistent high-quality output, productivity improvements and process robustness. This position will also work as a liaison between production and other SciCan departments from product development to the transfer of the product to manufacturing.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
- Identify and troubleshoot process, material, or equipment problems to minimize down time.
- Where possible, apply 6 sigma techniques in the resolution of process, quality, and system deficiencies.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and drive to closure with related parties. Recommend solutions to design team, if required
- Assist production personal in failure analysis and troubleshooting of non-conforming manufactured product to determine the root cause
- Design and develop tools, jigs, and fixtures to aid in assembly. Create CAD models and drawings for these tools
- Maintain production tools and fixtures
- Initiate and lead projects to improve production efficiency, ergonomics and safety of production personals
- Prepare reports, charts, and other documentation required for engineering records and projects
- Working with Design team at the early stages of new product development ensuring DFM and DFA principals are applied to product design.
- Develops testing and inspection criteria at various stages of assembly based on the statistical data of parts’ reliability and recommendation from the design team
- Assist with training of manufacturing employees on new products, tooling, equipment, and process revisions
- Identify critical control points and preventive measures
- Create and maintain FMEA documents.
- Using lean concepts and tools, participate in continuous improvement projects to improve production plant and manufacturing processes
- Make recommendations and initiate Plant Wide Quality/Process System Improvements including alternative materials, equipment, gauging, systems, error proofing, and methods.
- Update and document current plant layout. Modify layout as required to support new assembly requirements or new product launch.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering.
- 5 plus years of related experience in a manufacturing environment preferably with medical products.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and quality improvement methods, including Lean Manufacturing concepts
- Must be a self-starter, with the ability to work both alone/with minimal supervision and in team environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to conduct root cause analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis)
- Excellent computer and data analysis skills. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office, CAD (Creo preferably), and CMMS systems.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt, Black Belt) or equivalent will be an asset.
- Familiarity with ISO13485 and general product safety requirements such as CSA, UL, TUV will be an asset
