Role Overview As a Process Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in scaling up production and improving operational efficiency for our wire and finished goods manufacturing lines. Working cross-functionally with production, quality, R&D, and operations teams, you’ll help drive process improvements, reduce variability, and ensure high-quality output in a fast-paced, high-tech environment. Responsibilities
- Conduct daily meetings with the Pilot group to highlight top priorities.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and QC teams to address safety, quality, productivity, and cost issues.
- Investigate and solve quality issues in the paint shop, ensuring outflow prevention.
- Support body accuracy and weld quality activities throughout the shop.
- Develop schedules and specifications for new equipment or equipment modifications.
- Lead materials delivery automation projects involving AGVs, auto tow motors, and auto forklifts.
- Facilitate cross-functional zone meetings twice a week to review team priorities.
- Analyze equipment logs and downtime data to develop preventive maintenance systems.
- Coordinate with external skilled trades and construction vendors for process and equipment evaluation.
- Support process and equipment trials on weekdays and weekends.
- Lead the PSHSR process for new and modified equipment with external reviewers.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement countermeasures for safety, quality, and ergonomic concerns.
- Troubleshoot automation issues and work on cycle time reduction.
- Ensure equipment and systems comply with relevant standards and legislation.
- Support equipment improvements and refurbishment efforts on weekdays and weekends.
- Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing preferred.
- Previous experience as a Project Engineer within the automotive manufacturing industry.
- Strong project management skills, including schedule oversight and presentation abilities.
- Working knowledge of automation with troubleshooting capabilities.
- Experience in a weld shop, including weld inspection and project scheduling.
- Problem-solving skills with cross-functional teams.
- Strong decision-making abilities.

- Experience with AGV systems.
- Familiarity with robotics and mechatronics is a plus.
The role involves working with a project group that implements plant changes leading up to a launch. You will spend 80-90% of your time on the shop floor, engaging in planning layouts, processes, and working with internal teams. The remaining time will be spent at your desk handling design and scheduling tasks. The work environment includes a shared open office and requires travel to different plants for meetings as needed. Expect to work 50-60 hours per week, including weekends on a rotational basis. All necessary technical equipment will be provided.

The successful candidate will act as a design resource, project manager, and/or client manager within the Process Water/Wastewater Group, on local and international industrial water and wastewater treatment projects in a variety of sectors including food processing, mining and manufacturing. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in renewable energy (waste-to-energy) projects, as well as groundwater remediation and treatment projects.

**What you can expect to do here:**
You will be expected to manage new and existing multi-disciplinary engineering projects and supervise engineering design. Typical types of projects include industrial sampling programs and data collection, feasibility studies, options evaluations, preliminary design, detailed design, troubleshooting and operations support for both new and existing facilities. Typical clients include light and heavy industrial facilities, mining operations, extractive industries, food processing facilities, automotive manufacturing, and some small municipalities.
You will be expected to take on duties as a project manager, working with Client Account Managers to prepare proposals and time/task matrices, developing and executing scopes of work, managing project financials and deliverables, and overseeing the work of Junior, Intermediate, and Senior EITs and Engineers. You will be expected to manage external resources for the execution of discipline-specific work for which expertise does not exist in the immediate team. This can include other engineering disciplines within WSP, and external resources such as subcontractors. You will be expected to manage subcontracts, health and safety plans, quality management plans, and other key project management documents.
You will be encouraged to take on new responsibilities, engage new clients, and bring forward new ideas for growing or optimizing the business. Typical project phases and tasks may entail the following:
+ Design of industrial wastewater treatment systems; including wastewater characterization, bench and pilot-scale treatability evaluations, PFD and P&ID development, production of detailed engineering drawings and specifications, construction supervision, and commissioning
+ Economic and technical evaluation of treatment technologies
+ Design, specification, and tendering of major process equipment purchases
+ Economic and technical evaluation of specific treatment equipment
+ Permitting and regulatory submittals
Typical project management duties may include:
+ Managing task execution, and providing guidance to project personnel
+ Working with other disciplines and coordinating design tasks
+ Managing subcontractors
+ Reviewing and managing budgets and project spend
+ Maintaining a project schedule
+ Communicating with clients and managing expectations
+ Managing change
+ Developing health and safety documentation
+ Reviewing and approving billings
Typical proposal tasks can include:

**What you'll bring to WSP:**
You will possess a diploma, undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant field. You will have between 10 and 20 years of industry experience, with at least 5 years of experience in process engineering, industrial water/wastewater treatment design, or industrial facility design. The ideal candidate will:

Key duties and responsibilities
- Work closely with designers, fellow engineers, technical specialists, and project managers to design optimized industrial and commercial facilities;
- Evaluate and interpret project requirements in order to develop innovative and good value solutions to clients’ needs;
- Develop HVAC, plant utility, plumbing and fire suppression systems, mechanical/utility equipment construction specifications;
- Create P&ID’s, equipment layout plans, plant/process utility distribution plans and system details;
- Act as Engineer of Record to seal drawings for building permit;

- Review shop drawings and perform site observations to validate general conformance to design;
- Work under the guidance of the Mechanical Engineering Manager to develop design skills and ensure design quality standards are met.
Position Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized college, university, or training institution;
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience;
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing, or in process;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Strong technical, organizational, coordination, and communication skills, as demonstrated through previous project work;
- Demonstrated ability and interest to work as part of a team;
- Desire to develop skills and expand career;
- Proven experience with office software such as the MS Office Suite; and
- Experience in the Food and Beverage Industry considered an asset but is not a requirement.
Travel and working conditions
- Work is generally completed in a newly renovated office environment, with some days working from individual homes as we offer a flexible hybrid schedule;
- Some travel is necessary to support project presentations at client sites across Canada; travel may be expected 10-15% of the time.
