YOUR DAY TO DAY :
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for technical assignments involving maximizing the manufacturability and maintaining timely product flow for the assigned products. The Manufacturing Engineer will implement and maintain efficient manufacturing equipment, processes and procedures; coordinating the introduction of new products into manufacturing, and identifying and solving production related problems, for assigned products.

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Interfacing with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products.
  • Estimating manufacturing costs, determining time standards, process qualifications, work instructions, and making recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new and existing product lines.
  • Create and maintaining required documentation for manufacturing processes, process-failure-mode-effects-analysis, value-stream-maps, capacity and utilization studies, time and motion studies, standard work, cycle time analysis, and line balancing.
  • Research and test design ideas to determine feasibility, utilizing lean manufacturing, kaizen, Six Sigma, poka-yoke, and root-cause analysis to formulate and support innovation, corrective actions, and improvements.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design materials and parts, fabrications processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Collaborating with Quality Engineering to monitor product yield, provide product factory / field failure root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE :

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering – prefer Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering
  • 6-9 years relevant experience

You'll work cross-functionally to identify efficiency opportunities while ensuring compliance with financial, regulatory (e.g., cGMP), and GAMP standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems with production equipment and instrumentation systems.
  • Provide technical support for existing production systems; Analyze, repair and maintenance requirements to proactively address system weaknesses.
  • Lead, conduct and participate in root cause analysis and other process troubleshooting activities to support productivity improvements in operations.
  • In cooperation with the QA team, develop validation documentation and implement validation plans, conduct commissioning of new equipment and develop preventative maintenance plans for equipment.
  • Manage vendors and consultants to ensure key deliverables for projects and programs are met and coordinate the execution and implementation of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical expertise during regulatory audits and during training of new employees on equipment
  • Manage product launches on packaging lines by conducting appropriate trials to identify and implement required solutions to enable filling, labelling and capping of products.
  • Author, review, revise, or approve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Participate in site improvement initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical, beverage, and food industries, with prior process engineering experience .
  • Bachelors Degree in a related engineering field required
  • Prior experience in a cGMP-regulated industry , including knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with environmental regulations and OSHA compliance required

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for technical assignments involving maximizing the manufacturability and maintaining timely product flow for the assigned products. The Manufacturing Engineer will implement and maintain efficient manufacturing equipment, processes and procedures; coordinating the introduction of new products into manufacturing, and identifying and solving production related problems, for assigned products.

YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR :

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Interfacing with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products.
  • Estimating manufacturing costs, determining time standards, process qualifications, work instructions, and making recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new and existing product lines.
  • Create and maintaining required documentation for manufacturing processes, process-failure-mode-effects-analysis, value-stream-maps, capacity and utilization studies, time and motion studies, standard work, cycle time analysis, and line balancing.
  • Research and test design ideas to determine feasibility, utilizing lean manufacturing, kaizen, Six Sigma, poka-yoke, and root-cause analysis to formulate and support innovation, corrective actions, and improvements.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design materials and parts, fabrications processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Collaborating with Quality Engineering to monitor product yield, provide product factory / field failure root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE :

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering – prefer Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering
  • 6-9 years relevant experience
  • Proven knowledge of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theories.
  • In-depth understanding of lean manufacturing principles, TAKT, value-stream-mapping.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to clearly recognize and export information relevant to sound manufacturing engineering design.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, problem solving techniques, and quality processes.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication.

  • Lead engineering projects from start to finish, ensuring timely completion, budget adherence, and alignment with customer requirements (PPAP and run at rate).
  • Handle tasks across project phases, including timing, concept, feasibility studies, design, construction, and prototype programs.

  • Resolve quality concerns and support quick resolution of open issues within the engineering department.
  • Manage and implement customer-approved engineering changes, ensuring accurate part-level communications, physical updates, and process modifications

  • Review and coordinate custom packaging designs, including the build, approval process, and capital budgets.

  • Control CAD storage and manage the importing/exporting of CAD data.

SciCan is located in Toronto near the intersection of Highways 401 and 404 (Don Mills and York Mills). It is accessible by public transportation.


We currently have an opening for a Manufacturing Engineer as part of our Continuous Improvement Department. This position is responsible to support production activities to ensure consistent high-quality output, productivity improvements and process robustness. This position will also work as a liaison between production and other SciCan departments from product development to the transfer of the product to manufacturing.


Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
  • Identify and troubleshoot process, material, or equipment problems to minimize down time.
  • Where possible, apply 6 sigma techniques in the resolution of process, quality, and system deficiencies.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and drive to closure with related parties. Recommend solutions to design team, if required
  • Assist production personal in failure analysis and troubleshooting of non-conforming manufactured product to determine the root cause
  • Design and develop tools, jigs, and fixtures to aid in assembly. Create CAD models and drawings for these tools
  • Maintain production tools and fixtures
  • Initiate and lead projects to improve production efficiency, ergonomics and safety of production personals
  • Prepare reports, charts, and other documentation required for engineering records and projects
  • Working with Design team at the early stages of new product development ensuring DFM and DFA principals are applied to product design.
  • Develops testing and inspection criteria at various stages of assembly based on the statistical data of parts’ reliability and recommendation from the design team
  • Assist with training of manufacturing employees on new products, tooling, equipment, and process revisions
  • Identify critical control points and preventive measures
  • Create and maintain FMEA documents.
  • Using lean concepts and tools, participate in continuous improvement projects to improve production plant and manufacturing processes
  • Make recommendations and initiate Plant Wide Quality/Process System Improvements including alternative materials, equipment, gauging, systems, error proofing, and methods.
  • Update and document current plant layout. Modify layout as required to support new assembly requirements or new product launch.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering.
  • 5 plus years of related experience in a manufacturing environment preferably with medical products.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and quality improvement methods, including Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Must be a self-starter, with the ability to work both alone/with minimal supervision and in team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to conduct root cause analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis)
  • Excellent computer and data analysis skills. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office, CAD (Creo preferably), and CMMS systems.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt, Black Belt) or equivalent will be an asset.
  • Familiarity with ISO13485 and general product safety requirements such as CSA, UL, TUV will be an asset
