The Business Intelligence - Business Analyst is a key member of a centralized BI team supporting business operations. This role supports cross-functional business intelligence initiatives including data integration, reporting, automation, and ad-hoc analytics. The analyst will play a critical role in designing and developing customized data models and interactive reports that drive insight and strategic decision-making across departments and management structures. In additional this individual will support in the budgeting process and will be responsible for key deliverables to management while liaising with regional operations staff to ensure the best practice is maintained.
This position will be located in Winnipeg MB or Campbell River, BC
Your contributions to the team include:
- Prepare, clean, and aggregate large data sets from multiple systems to support reporting and analytics needs.
- Develop and maintain customized, interactive reports and dashboards in Power BI and Excel.
- Support the annual budget process through data consolidation, report automation, and performance analysis.
- Perform financial and operational variance analysis, identifying trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define reporting requirements and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Integrate data from various software solutions and APIs to enable centralized reporting and insights.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues, ensuring accuracy and consistency across systems and reports.
- Support the development of automated workflows and data pipelines to streamline recurring reporting tasks.
- Contribute to data governance practices and documentation of data models and reporting logic.
- Present findings and insights in a clear, visual format for both technical and non-technical audiences.
What you need to be successful:
- Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Business analyst experience with enterprise-level software.
- Proficiency in Power BI and advanced Microsoft Excel (including Power Query, Dax)
- Working knowledge of SQL and ability to query relational databases.
- Understanding of data modeling and ETL processes; experience connecting APIs or integrating third-party software data is a strong asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Clear and effective communicator, comfortable presenting complex data to non-technical audiences.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and projects independently and in collaboration.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric (Dataflows Gen2, OneLake, DirectLake, Etc.)
- Exposure to Python of other scripting languages for data analysis or automation.
- Knowledge of real estate, construction, property management, or hospitality operations.

~ Expertise in Tableau and Salesforce reporting, with a strong understanding of how to tailor insights to different stakeholder levels.

- Develop and support the implementation of improved business processes and tools

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- 5+ years of related FP&A or financial reporting experience; Retail or CPG industry experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or business highly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization including non-finance personnel and the executive level

What you’ll be doing
The DA is responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex datasets to provide actionable insights to the business. This includes redesigning and rebuilding existing reports, developing new analytical tools, and supporting the data team in operational tasks. The DA works closely with data engineers, business analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of reporting and analytics solutions.
The DA also supports the data governance and data quality strategies by maintaining artifacts such as data dictionaries, lineage, and business rules. This role requires a strong understanding of SQL, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric, along with the ability to adapt to new technologies and processes.
Internally, the DA works closely with the Operations Department and other business users within BCCNM.
Externally, the DA works with external stakeholders of the College, which may include other consulting firms, Health Regulators, the Ministry of Health and other agencies or bodies in the health care industry.
Together with Data Team, the work of the Data Analyst helps to promote organizational and operational effectiveness and promotes BCCNM’s information governance by ensuring data accuracy, quality, and integrity.
Key Responsibilities include:
- In consultation with the Manager, Business Intelligence and Data, contributes to and advocates for the management of data as a key strategic asset.
- Work together with data engineers, data analysts, business analysts, business SMEs, records analysts, and privacy analysts to understand data needs and create effective, secure data workflows.
- Participate in reporting requirements sessions with product owners, data stewards, and SMEs to gather and document business needs.
- Contribute to design activities, including identifying data attributes in source systems, defining transformation rules, and supporting data modeling efforts.
- Collaborate with the data team to ensure the designed solutions align with the overall data architecture and business goals.
- Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of data pipelines for data ingestion, processing, and transformation in Microsoft Azure Cloud.
- Utilize Azure Data Factory, SSIS or comparable technologies to create and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) operations.
- Assist in creating and maintaining data storage solutions, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, and/or Azure Blob Storage.
- Develop new reports and dashboards to meet business requirements, ensuring they are optimized for performance, usability, and scalability.
- Support the data team in operational tasks, including monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines and reports built in Power BI.

Your education & skills
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or another quantitative field, plus relevant experience.

- Proven experience in report development using Power BI, SSRS, and Excel.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL for data querying, manipulation, and analysis.
- Proficiency in Power BI (DAX, data modeling, visualization best practices) and experience in setting up and managing Power BI workspaces and access controls.
- Familiarity with data visualization best practices and design principles.
