As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a meaningful role as part of a project team providing engineered mechanical solutions to ensure performance and safety of engineered-to-order (ETO) automated laboratory projects.
**What you will contribute:**
**Team Collaboration**
Collaborate with multi-functional project teams that include the customer, Project Managers, Integrators, Mechanical Designers, Material Planning, Procurement, to plan and develop an ETO solution to achieve the agreed requirements
Promote a multi-functional team environment through design reviews at key stages of the projects
Support the pre-sales team as a technical consultant to support customer bids on new business
Support root cause investigations and resolution with internal team members and vendors
**Technical and Safety**
Design mechanical parts and assemblies for custom robotic systems using SolidWorks
Provide design solutions that meet the customeru2019s requirements with an understanding of the full function of the systemu2019s usage and serviceability.
Select components and materials to meet the functional and aesthetic design requirements.
Prepare of mechanical drawings using SolidWorks
Perform engineering calculations for stresses, strength and deflections under static loading
Perform robot arm reach assessments
Analyze designs for safety compliance with locally legislated requirements such as OSHA, CSA, CE or customer specific
Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM) pertaining to Mechanical assemblies for order release in the ERP system
**Continuous Improvement**
Help to improve design efficiency and consistency from project to project by Maintaining 3D & 2D design masters and libraries structured in the PDM database for commonly used components and assemblies
Ensure design issues and/or problems are resolved effectively and accurately vetted by the multi-functional team
Investigate, propose, and implement design improvements to enhance our product quality, value to our customers, or improve our profitability
**How will you get here?**
Education
Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng) license considered an asset
Experience

Proven experience in a computer-aid design system: Inventor, Pro-E or CATIA

Overview
Report to the Engineering Lead, the Mechanical Designer is responsible for performing, reviewing, and/or overseeing
the design and detail engineering of mechanical equipment and packaged systems related to industrial heating and
filtration equipment. Candidate with process design experiences is an asset. Background with electrical and control
system is an asset but not required.
Primary Duties
• Review technical specifications, prepare and manage design packages - vendor document list, design
drawings, design reports, engineering and welding procedures, and other technical documentations;
• Review and interpret project specifications, engineering codes, and standards to ensure compliance during all
phases of the design and manufacturing process.
• Prepare material lists (BOM), specification sheets, and detail manufacturing drawings.
• Prepare and/or review pressure vessel design reports and other required calculations;
• Provide engineering and technical support to various stakeholders in a timely manner;
• Work closely with production, welding, and quality assurance teams to ensure that designs are accurately
implemented and meet quality and safety standards.
• Participate in design review meetings and provide feedback between production and engineering for
manufacturability of design;
• Follow all Thermon's quality procedures;
• Maintain computer data files and document records.
Education and Qualifications
• Post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering. Other discipline but with related work experience will be
considered;
• Licensed professional engineer in Ontario or eligible and working towards one;
• 0-10 years of relevant industrial experiences;
• Proficient with design tools and software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or PDMS.
• Strong understanding in general engineering / manufacturing practices and standards, such as ISO, ASME;
• Knowledge of materials properties, welding techniques, and fabrication processes for pressure vessel
manufacturing is preferred;
• Working knowledge and experience with ASME BPVC, particularly Section VIII Div.1 is preferred;
• Working knowledge with Autodesk Vault is an asset;
• Working knowledge with COMPRESS and MathCAD is an asset.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 510 years of relevant experience (or a combination of education and experience).
Comprehensive understanding of building systems (architectural, structural, civil, electrical, fire protection) and their interface with mechanical systems.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
Strong knowledge of applicable building and plumbing codes and standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
Understanding of project financials including backlog, WIP (work in progress), and budget tracking.
Ability to lead and mentor project teams of 13 people across multiple concurrent projects.
