JOB DESCRIPTION

Our Tim Hortons is a growing company. We are looking to add an experienced and responsible individual to our team to repair restaurant equipment and maintain daily building maintenance ranging from part time to full time hours. We have restaurants within Windsor and Chatham-Kent. We promote flexibility with your schedule. This includes equipment such as Panini Press, Toasters, Hot holding units, Cream Machines and Coffee Makers.



REQUIREMENTS
  • Replace and/or repair defective and worn parts (i.e. changing fridge/freezer gaskets, replacing handle on oven)
  • Switch out equipment within the restaurants
  • Able to perform minor plumbing and electrical maintenance
  • Assist with moving equipment during renovations
  • Able to perform power washing of buildings, sidewalks, garbage containers
  • Miscellaneous duties as required (i.e. changing of ceiling tiles, changing lights)

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative and predictive maintenance on plant infrastructure and downstream extrusion machinery, including pullers, cutters, cooling systems, conveyors, and winding/packaging equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues such as misalignments, bearing failures, gear wear, drive chain and belt issues, and hydraulic/pneumatic leaks.
  • Maintain and service pumps, valves, gearboxes, rollers, and other rotating/mechanical assemblies critical to continuous operation.
  • Conduct mechanical adjustments and precision alignments to ensure consistent product quality and minimal downtime.
  • Inspect and replace wear parts (seals, bearings, bushings, belts, blades, rollers) according to schedules and equipment condition.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new downstream equipment, ensuring proper alignment, anchoring, and integration into existing lines.
  • Assist with equipment modifications and upgrades to improve performance, efficiency, and safety.
  • Interpret basic diagrams, schematic drawings, and service manuals to determine work procedures.
  • Diagnose, locate the cause of, and repair malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement through reliability efforts and root cause failure analysis.
  • Carryout oral/printed work request and apply corrective measures in a timely fashion.
  • Have intermediate grasp of related mechanical requirements and apply corrective measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, downtime events, and spare parts usage in the CMMS system.
  • Fulfill mechanical requirements of work orders and trouble shooting and repairs c/w requesting assistance where necessary.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Communicate daily repair activity with Supervisors and with other Departments.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and plant maintenance standards.

Qualifications

  • Background in mechanical systems (millwrighting, heavy-duty equipment repair, HVAC, or related fields) formal trade certification is an asset but not required.
  • Hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or extrusion environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, belts, and gear systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical diagrams and equipment manuals.
  • Skilled with basic fabrication, welding, rigging, and use of precision measuring tools.
  • Experience maintaining HVAC, compressed air, or industrial cooling systems is an advantage.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or within a team.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new systems in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Familiarity with downstream extrusion is considered an asset.
  • Ability to complete work orders and organize and plan daily tasks with minimal supervision.

**What You Will Do:**
+ You will always work safely and follow all safety policies and procedures to ensure you, and your colleagues, go home safely every day.
+ As a maintenance team member, your primary role will be to support production operations through the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of various mechanical systems and equipment.
+ Ensure the operation of company equipment, including, but not limited to mechanical, electrical and control devices.
+ Perform mechanical repairs, service, troubleshooting, and scheduled equipment inspections, following the prescribed guidelines and procedures.
+ Review and assist program leaders and teams with the mechanical safety programs to ensure adherence.
+ Adhere to all quality systems & safety procedures, including environmental regulations.
+ Make recommendations for improved safety through mechanical programs and/or process changes.
+ Team members will be required to work with the maintenance supervisor, coordinator and specialist on work queues, work orders and projects. Help organize and plan work, including leading seasonal prep work.
+ Assist maintenance team members with their daily work tasks as needed.
+ Assist production team members with their daily work tasks as needed.
+ Overtime hours, including weekend work, as required during seasonal peaks.
+ Scheduled on-call coverage required during seasonal peaks.
+ Various other duties as required by the needs of the business.
**Education:**
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Alberta Millwright Journeyman certificate or Interprovincial Red Seal Millwright Journeyman certificate
**What Skills You Need:**
+ An attitude of curiosity. Willing to be mentored and willing to mentor professional skills as applicable to daily tasks.
+ Valid Class "5" driver's license required and able to obtain a driver's abstract.
+ Industrial millwright maintenance work experience
+ Knowledge and experience troubleshooting mechanical issues related to motors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC are required.
+ Perform lubrication tasks and preventative maintenance tasks on factory assets.
+ Weld, repair and fabricate equipment as needed.
+ General knowledge and some experience troubleshooting electrical issues related to motors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC are required.
+ A general understanding of PLC automation (Allen Bradly) is an asset.
+ You are willing and able to do the following with or without reasonable accommodation: Climb and/or work in elevated areas, Stand and sit for extended periods, and Work both outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet, and dry conditions.
+ You are comfortable with technology, possess a good computer aptitude, and are willing and able to learn other company-specific applications as required.
+ Experience using an electronic maintenance module such as SAP R3 is an asset.

+ You have good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

**We are currently hiring a Maintenance Technician to join the team at our Wynyard facility in Wynyard, SK.**
Compass Minerals' Wynyard Mechanical Evaporation Plant is located on Big Quill Lake. The plant is Canada's largest producer of sulfate of potash (SOP). The site uses two unique processes to produce SOP: ion exchange process and glaserite process. SOP from this site is used for the pharmaceutical, medical, food and fertilizer industries, and other industrial uses.
The Wynyard Plant is located right on Big Quill Lake, in a friendly community of 1,800, situated 50 minutes from the city of Humboldt and a 2-hour drive from Saskatoon.
**SUMMARY:**
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor or his/her designate and be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of a variety of industrial equipment, including but not limited to, belt and screw type conveyors, bucket elevators, automated packaging and wrapping equipment, hydraulic presses, as well as associated building infrastructure and support systems.
**How will you contribute to the team?**
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
+ Read and understand blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
+ Troubleshoot and operate specialized processing equipment.
+ Repair, assemble, and/or disassemble gearboxes, pumps, and other machinery using proper specifications and techniques.
+ Maintain valves, including packing, lubricating, and disassembly/replacement/repair.
+ Assess general equipment condition (e.g., unusual vibration, noise, and/or heat) and report perceived problems to the proper authority.
+ Perform routine oil changes, filter changes, inspections, and basic maintenance and repair of plant and mobile equipment.
+ Conduct inspections related to the structural Asset Management Plan and complete follow-up repairs as assigned.
+ Work with industrial pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
+ Perform all position stick and gas metal arc welding.
+ Use plasma cutters, oxygen/acetylene torches, various power and hand tools.
+ Operate general shop equipment (e.g., drill press, bench grinder).
+ Work at heights using various man lifts and access equipment.
+ Work in confined spaces.
+ Fit and assemble machine components.
+ Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
+ Ability to work overtime as necessary and/or rotating shifts.
+ Perform other duties as required.
**What should you bring to the role?**
+ Must have a valid Red Seal Millwright Journeyperson Certificate; 2nd or 3rd year Apprentice will be considered).
+ 5 years of related experience in an industrial setting is preferred.
+ Metal fabrication, welding, and cutting (Proficiency in operating SMAW ("stick"), GMAW ("mig"), Oxy-Fuel, Plasma welding and cutting equipment). CWB certification would be an asset.
+ Must be a team player willing to participate in company safety and production requirements.
+ Effective communication skills: must be able to carry out verbal instructions, read labels and signs, report progress or issues to supervision.
