We're looking for a Mechanical Systems Engineer to support the development of mechanical designs and engineering systems across various products and programs within the organization.
As a member of this team, you will work collaboratively to develop high quality component, subsystem, and system designs capable of withstanding the harsh environmental conditions typical of military platforms.
You should possess a strong aptitude for problem-solving through the application of engineering principles in a multidisciplinary environment. A team oriented mindset and focus on achieving positive outcomes are essential.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the full product design life cycle from requirements definition and concept development through to production ramp-up. This includes prototype procurement, assembly, design verification and qualification testing, and ongoing manufacturing support.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Senior Mechanical Engineers to review, derive, and verify mechanical and environmental requirements from higher level system requirements.
- Translate requirements to designers and review designs/drawings to ensure compliance.
- Ensure your work adheres to integrated product design and specified requirements.
- Provide technical direction on the creation of mechanical concepts, designs, and drawings of electronic enclosures and other mechanical systems for rugged environments using tools such as 3D solid modeling and simulation software.
- Apply sound engineering principles to maintain high design quality.
- Work closely with other design professionals (e.g., PCB Designers, Hardware Engineers, Systems Engineers), Supply Chain Management, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure a smooth project workflow.
- Deliver presentations at internal design reviews and other peer, management, or customer reviews.
- Perform environmental engineering tests—such as thermal cycling, vibration, and shock in the test lab for both qualification and design verification purposes.
- Support Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations.
- Provide technical assistance to Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), especially during the transition to production.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing to develop and refine Assembly Methods Instructions (AMIs).
- Review and approve Product Data Changes and the supporting justification data.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on design quality and efficiency.
- Mentor and review the work of junior designers.
- Stay informed on the latest technologies, products, and market trends relevant to your area of work.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Science, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design or systems development.
- Experience with environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock) and use of test equipment.
- Strong analytical skills in structural, dynamics and thermal analysis
- Working Knowledge in:
- finite element analysis tools and techniques
- Manufacturing processes and design for manufacturing and assembly
- company, military, and/or industrial engineering standards and procedures (e.g. MIL-STD-810)
- Engineering Development Framework (INCOSE System Engineering Principles)

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Travel across Canada to visually inspect mechanical (HVAC & plumbing) building systems in the commercial/retail industry
- Analyze, diagnose, recommend, and provide technical support for mechanical equipment
- Conduct and attend site visits. Including but not limited to, site verifications, inspections, and meetings
- Read and interpret product specifications and experience in working with building specifications, drawings, and designs
- Effectively manage time to ensure all necessary deadlines are met
- Prepare detailed and accurate reports and document inspection results
- Understand national and provincial building codes across Canada
- Provides technical support as requested
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and must have a reliable vehicle
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline required.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the commercial/industrial sector
- Ability to read, review and interpret plans, drawings, specifications, codes and by-laws
- Knowledge of the Canadian National Building Code (NBC), Ontario Building Code (OBC), and other applicable legislation/construction standards
- Familiarity with LEED, ASHRAE, CEC, and energy-efficient design principles (LEED AP or CEM certification is an asset).
- Experience in setup and maintenance would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of computer systems and software such as Office Suite
- The ability to be flexible with regards to work location and work schedule is a must, including the ability to travel away from home
- Knowledge of electrical systems is an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with others
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and tact
- Ability to plan, organize and manage work with minimal supervision and complete assigned duties accurately and within timelines
- Physically capable of performing required duties and ability to work in all weather conditions

+ Work with suppliers on projects related to mechanical systems components on the Global 5500/6500/7500/8000 (Periphery, Cabinets, Window Shades, Water & Waste, Oxygen, ECS, Tables and Door mechanisms, Seats and Divan, Insulation, etc.).

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Supervisor with an emphasis on mechanical building systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, refrigeration systems, and heat exchangers in a hotel environment. This role requires a proactive individual with strong leadership skills to oversee maintenance staff, coordinate preventative maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Salary Range : $65,000 - $70,000 per annum based on experience.
What you will be doing:
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and heat exchangers.
- Plan and execute preventative maintenance schedules to ensure optimal performance and longevity of mechanical systems.
- Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to track maintenance activities, spare parts, and schedules.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and disruptions to hotel operations.
- Collaborate with hotel management to address any maintenance challenges or improvements.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and services performed.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized maintenance services when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned
Your experience and skills include:
- Journeyman Plumber, Refrigeration Technician, or Millwright certification with relevant experience.
- Proven experience in a maintenance supervisory role, preferably in a hotel or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and heat exchangers.
- Experience with preventative maintenance strategies and CMMS is essential.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours as needed.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software is an asset.

The Senior System Engineer will play a crucial role in providing Site Engineering support at the SMR-X Construction site at Darlington, collaborating with partner organizations and suppliers to enhance the detailed design and effectively execute a new plant project. The system engineer will be responsible for coordinating design deliverables at the site, in the fabrication phase, the procurement phase, and the construction phase. This individual will support mechanical system engineering during construction activities on-site, ensuring that projects are constructed in accordance with plans and specifications, addressing technical issues that arise between the construction, fabrication, and design teams, and monitoring progress while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Responsible for Mechanical Systems engineering activities supporting the BWRX-300 SMR system design at the construction site as part of the Site Engineering Office.

+ Providing technical advice and support solving site problems

+ Liaise with customers, in partnership with engineering leadership and Project Management.
+ Interface with cross-functional teams and departments necessary to complete assigned system design activities.
+ Responsible to undertake the necessary corrective and preventive actions resulting from Quality noncompliance monitoring and audit programs.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering
+ Minimum 8 years of experience in an engineering role
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in nuclear plant modifications, new construction, and/or nuclear fabrication
+ Minimum 4 years of experience in nuclear system design activities including development of process flow diagrams, thermodynamic and heat/fluid flow transfer calculations, engineering specifications, etc.
+ Minimum of 6 years experience to effectively function in a dynamic design environment and manage the demands of multiple tasks and projects, while maintaining an uncompromised commitment to personal and nuclear safety principles
+ Ontario P. Eng. certification
**Eligibility Requirements:**
+ Work 5 days onsite a week at the Darlington New Nuclear Site in Oshawa.

- Certification and licensing to operate forklift is strongly preferred
