Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Travel across Canada to visually inspect mechanical (HVAC & plumbing) building systems in the commercial/retail industry
  • Analyze, diagnose, recommend, and provide technical support for mechanical equipment
  • Conduct and attend site visits. Including but not limited to, site verifications, inspections, and meetings
  • Read and interpret product specifications and experience in working with building specifications, drawings, and designs
  • Effectively manage time to ensure all necessary deadlines are met
  • Prepare detailed and accurate reports and document inspection results
  • Understand national and provincial building codes across Canada
  • Provides technical support as requested

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and must have a reliable vehicle
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline required.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the commercial/industrial sector
  • Ability to read, review and interpret plans, drawings, specifications, codes and by-laws
  • Knowledge of the Canadian National Building Code (NBC), Ontario Building Code (OBC), and other applicable legislation/construction standards
  • Familiarity with LEED, ASHRAE, CEC, and energy-efficient design principles (LEED AP or CEM certification is an asset).
  • Experience in setup and maintenance would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software such as Office Suite
  • The ability to be flexible with regards to work location and work schedule is a must, including the ability to travel away from home
  • Knowledge of electrical systems is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and tact
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage work with minimal supervision and complete assigned duties accurately and within timelines
  • Physically capable of performing required duties and ability to work in all weather conditions

WHAT'S THE JOB?

Dexterra on Demand, Toronto Controls and Mechanical Division, has an opening for a dynamic Estimator and Project Coordinator to generate estimating proposals for inside and outside sales, and provide building controls/ Mechanical installation and maintenance and repair servicing support to a growing division. The hybrid role enables an experienced Small Works Estimator/coordinator to provide more strategic support to generate and nurture new sales leads and grow existing accounts.

Our unique focus is to deliver evidence-driven solutions and services to improve the value of buildings in energy, indoor air quality and comfort. We developed our version of “on-demand ventilation” that utilizes values from indoor air quality sensors to optimize air quality, as well as greater energy efficiency.

  • We are seeking an Estimator and Small Works coordinator who is interested in growing the capabilities and market share of a 40-year Building Controls/HVAC  company with a strong foundation.
  • Generate estimates for BAS/HVAC equipment for new building construction, existing building retrofits, upgrades, repairs and services for inside and outside sales proposals
  • Project Management or Project Coordination experience of small mechanical projects is a bonus
  • Review Requests for Qualification (RFQ), Requests for Proposal (RFP), addenda, and all other contractual documents
  • Assist as required with statement of qualification packages, proposals & request for clarifications / addenda
  • Prepare and participate in meetings with clients, joint venture partners and consultants and pre-tender meetings as required
  • Prepare work breakdown structures, quantity takeoffs, and requests for quotes
  • Lead and participate in the preliminary and final cost estimates
  • Participate in the development and growth of Toronto Building Controls division with emphasis on evidence-driven solutions and services
  • Actively participates in sales meetings, workshops and seminars, and support inside and outside sales capabilities
Qualifications

  • Experience in the selection of refrigerants, oils and lubricants, suitable for usage with refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the maintenance of machinery and equipment, such as air compressors, pumps, fans, heat exchangers, valves and gauges. This includes preventive and predictive maintenance methods used to achieve reliable and economical operation of the facility.
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver's License, and qualification for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
  • Possession of a G1 Gas Fitter certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning, and extensive experience in control and automation of multiple HVAC systems. Knowledge of electricity in its single and 3-phase form, as applied to motors, solenoid valves, etc. Experience in connecting and disconnecting electric power lines to equipment after following safety lock-out procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical and instrumentation drawings, and the ability to produce sketches and working drawings. Extensive experience in setting up and aligning equipment according to specifications and drawings.
