Key Responsibilities
As Medical Director, you will work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team, including Attending Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, RNs, RPNs, and PSWs, to provide comprehensive medical care for residents. Responsibilities include:
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate medical services within the Home.
- Recruit and provide guidance to Attending Physicians and Nurse Practitioners, including policy communication and monitoring professional accountabilities.
- Provide clinical supervision for the Nurse Practitioner employed by the Home.
- Oversee verification of credentials and registration for the Home’s medical staff.
- Collaborate with Attending Physicians to provide comprehensive primary care.
- Advise on and approve clinical policies and procedures, ensuring high-quality, safe resident care in partnership with the Director of Care.
- Participate in resident care planning, consultation, and issue resolution with the interdisciplinary team and external resources.
- Address after-hours coverage and on-call issues, providing on-site care approximately 16 hours per month.
- Serve on Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), Continuous Quality Improvement, and Professional Advisory Committees.
- Liaise with local hospitals and healthcare organizations.
- Support Ministry compliance inspections and resident safety incident reviews.
- Provide palliative and end-of-life care guidance and collaborate with the care team.
- Ensure timely referrals to specialists and therapies.
- Advise leadership on risk management and meet regularly with Executive Director and Director of Care.
- Conduct medication reviews and maintain accurate resident health records.
- Participate in outbreak management and provide medical oversight during outbreaks or pandemics.
- Deliver education and in-service programs to staff and clinicians.
- Develop and implement a clinical peer review process for all medical professionals.
- Maintain continuing education in long-term care, geriatric care, palliative care, and dementia care.
Qualifications
- Licensed to practise medicine in Ontario, in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
- Medical Director Certificate with Ontario Long Term Care Clinicians (OLTCC).
- Experience in long-term care is preferred.
- Knowledge of long-term care regulations.
- Strong teamwork, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build trust and interact professionally with staff, residents, families, and community partners.

Our detailed, goal-oriented Pharmacovigilance colleagues manage the safety profile of new drugs in clinical trials, oversee case-processing activities through all phases of development and perform regulatory reporting and medical monitoring.
As part of your work with beginning-to-end trial experience, you will expand your knowledge and experience working on clinical trials through every stage of drug development. This includes management and oversight of all contracted services.
**Discover Impactful Work:**
The Associate/Medical Director provides medical oversight of clinical trials to ensure company SOPs, client directives, good clinical practice, and regulatory requirements are followed. Attends and presents at investigator and sponsor meetings, provides medical consultation to clients, investigators and project team members and supports business development activities.
Provides medical review and analysis for clinical trial serious adverse events, marketed products ICSR and periodic safety reports ( e.g. PBRER, PSUR, DSUR) as well as other client deliverables (e.g. labeling reconciliation documents, CTD modules, REMS, RMP and CSR)
**A day in the Life:**
**General Support:**
Ensures tasks delegated to PVG are properly executed. Adheres to applicable regulations and ICH guidelines regarding clinical trials, regulatory documents, and safety issues. Adheres to client SOPs/directives and project specific WPDs for assigned projects. Adheres to PPDu2019s corporate policies and SOPs/WPDs.
Provides medical consultation to team members and answer all study related medical questions. Communicates clearly with associates and clients, maintaining an open line of communication to ensure all procedures are followed appropriately.
Provides therapeutic training and protocol training on assigned studies, as requested.
Assists in writing (interpretation of safety and efficacy data) and/or review of CSR, IND/NDA report, ICSR, signal detection reports, periodic reports, RMP, REMS, CTD modules, etc. to ensure that the medical content is accurate and complete.
**Clinical Trial Support:**
Monitors all safety variables (AE, laboratory abnormalities, changes in patient medical status, evaluation of prescribed concomitant medication for protocol restrictions, and un-blinding requests) of clinical studies.
Discusses all medical concerns with principal investigators and clients (e.g.discussion regarding interpretation of inclusion/exclusion criteria) raised during the course of a study, using proper medical judgment in the interpretation and decision making with regard to clinical situations as they relate to the investigational study.
Provides medical review of adverse events of special interest, serious adverse events and clinical outcomes events reported by study sites.
Performs data review as specified in the client contract and data validation manual including review of coding listings and/or full safety data to assess for potential safety concerns.
**Marketed Products Support:**
Manages signal detection activities, scientifically reviews aggregate reports, contributes to label updates, supports dossier maintenance and risk management activities.
Medically reviews adverse event and serious adverse event data from all sources (solicited, spontaneous, literature, etc) as contracted.
**Keys to Success:**
**Education and Experience:**
MD or equivalent required. Active medical licensure preferred but not required. Candidates should have clinical experience in Neurology and formal training in Neurology (i.e residency and/or fellowship), along with patient treatment experience (comparable to 2 years)
**For Medical Director Level:**
MD or equivalent required. Active medical licensure preferred but not required. Candidates should have a combination of clinical experience
**and industry experience**
as follows:
Candidates should have clinical experience in Neurology and formal training in Neurology (i.e residency and/or fellowship), along with patient treatment experience (comparable to 2 years)and one of the following:
Suitable clinical trial experience in a Contract Research Organization, pharmaceutical company or as a principal investigator (comparable to 1-2 years) in the industry; Or
Direct experience in safety/Pharmacovigilance (comparable to 2 years)
Experience preference towards individuals with clinical development/medical monitoring
In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
Job leveling at Associate Medical Director or Medical Director will be determined during the consideration process, inclusive of education, experience, therapeutic area(s), and interview results.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:**
Therapeutic expertise across one or more medical specialty or sub-specialties

About The Role:
As a DVM and Designated Registrant for the Practice, the Acting Medical Director demonstrates an exemplary standard of medicine with patients while concurrently providing medical leadership to the Practice. This DVM will be largely responsible for clinical work with approximately 5 - 10% of time focused on Medical Director responsibilities. As a senior member of the practice management team, the Acting Medical Director combines clinical expertise, a dedication to veterinary code of ethics and regulatory standards, solution-driven expertise, emotional intelligence and utilizes a servant leadership mindset to promote excellence in veterinary medicine.
