Summary
Reporting to the Group Leader, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing and pre-processing fresh samples, as well as supporting experiment preparation by managing solutions, consumables, and labels. The role also involves preparing solutions and contributing to the maintenance and upkeep of equipment, as well as receiving reagents and materials and handling inventory management.
Responsibilities
More specifically, you will participate in the following:
- Perform sample preparation such as cell isolation from blood samples, cryopreservation, thawing, and counting;
- Provide general support in experiment preparation such as plastic identification and label preparation;
- Prepare solutions and reagent aliquots;
- Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, and cleaning;
- Replenish stock materials and perform inventory;
- Perform file archiving.
Education
- DEC in Laboratory Technology, preferably with a biotechnology specialization.
Main Requirements
- 1 year experience in a laboratory, an asset;
- Experience working in a biological safety cabinet under sterile conditions;
- Experience with PBMC (isolation by Ficoll or CPT, cryopreservation, thawing, counting with hemocytometer), an asset;
- Experience in a GLP/GCLP environment, an asset;
- Organized and rigorous in the conduct of their work;
- Good record keeping skills and attention to detail;
- Dynamic and motivated.
Working Conditions
- 100% onsite;
- Rotating schedule of evening and weekend shifts: Monday to Friday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Note: A shift premium is applied;
- Must accept to perform activities in a Biosafety Level (BSL) 1 or 2 laboratory where biological samples may be either naturally or experimentally infected with potentially hazardous viruses such as HIV, HCV, or CMV.

As a Pap Technician, you will perform routine pap smear exams, including the following:

- Pap and cervical screening.
- Prepare supplies and explain the procedure to the patient.

- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Participates in educational programs as required.
- Assists with the orientation and support for new staff to the facility.
- Performs related duties as assigned by leader.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing program.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
- Recent experience in a medical device reprocessing environment as asset.
