Position Overview

The Network Engineer role is to support the stable operation of the internal corporate computer network (data, voice and video). This includes installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing network hardware, software, and communication links while ensuring minimal network downtime. The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems. Investigating faults in the network and arranging scheduled upgrades/fixes
  • Identifying, designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks providing documentations
  • Perform capacity planning for network infrastructure.
  • Participate in product selection, evaluation, and deployment of emerging technologies.
  • Responsible for developing, enhancing, and executing security operations processes, provides real-time security analysis, incident response.
  • Respond to incoming calls, alarms and e-mails regarding client data and voice issues, client change requests.
  • Network performance and quality, system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 year of hands-on experience working with Enterprise Campus and Datacenter networks: 3 tier and spine and leaf architectures
  • Experience with network firewalls, routers, switches, NAC, and Wi-Fi. Hands-on experience with protocols: BGP, OSPF (multi-area), IPSEC VPN (static and dynamic)
  • Hands-on experience with MS-Teams configuration is required: MS-Teams devices (Rooms, Phones, etc), Call Queues, Call forward, etc. Experience with RightFax (cloud) is desirable.
  • Experience in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting the following protocols and technologies is desirable: Cisco ISE, Cisco Meraki, FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyser, ADVPN, SDWAN, Cisco switches (Catalyst and Nexus), VSS, FHRP, vPC, 802.1x, 802.1q,802.3ad, Radius, QoS, SNMP
  • Experience with coding languages (Python or Powershell) would be an asset
  • Experience using tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, Solarwinds
  • Fortinet NSE4/NSE7, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, MS-720 or other network certifications is a plus
  • Ability to manage small to medium-sized projects including planning, execution, and stakeholder communication.

YOUR ROLE

As a Network Engineer on our team, you'll define, design, and implement secure network environments that support internal test platforms and project-specific infrastructure. You'll work closely with the corporate IT team to ensure seamless integration between isolated project networks and enterprise systems, with a strong emphasis on security and performance.

Job Purpose & Summary

The Network Engineer will configure, maintain, and secure DUCA’s network infrastructure, comprised of LAN, WAN and VOIP network environments across corporate offices and branches, datacenters, and cloud. This role will contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.

Key Accountabilities & Duties

  • Deploy and maintain Cisco network switches and routers
  • Review, troubleshoot, and maintain Palo Alto firewalls & policies
  • Configure and optimize software defined datacenter networking (VMware NSX-T)
  • Investigate network infrastructure issues (including configuration review, packet inspection, etc.)
  • Define, document, and enforce network systems & standards including network security policies and network access monitoring and controls
  • Facilitate network tasks related to DUCA IT technology roadmap projects & initiatives
  • Assist in short and long-term planning for network technology roadmap (including cross-technology and cross-platform configurations, resiliency & High Availability)
  • Manage patching & security compliance of network devices
  • Administer certificates & public DNS with appropriate third-party services
  • Create templates and baseline configurations for network devices
  • Manage backup & recovery of network configurations, and ensure high availability configurations are validated to support business continuity; participate in disaster recovery testing when required
  • Facilitate technology audits in network categories as required

We're looking for a Networking II to join our team.
The Networking II role provides ongoing administration and support of large enterprise systems consisting of Cisco and other industry Vendors. This includes designing, planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software and communication links. This position has expertise on the Cisco routing/switching platform. Networking II analyzes and resolves end user software program and connectivity issues in a timely and accurate fashion and provides end user training where required. This role works with vendors, end users, customer service representatives and other technical staff to resolve advanced hardware/software issues. This position will also need to have excellent communication and presentation skills for customer engagements.
**This is a Hybrid position**
**Responsibilities:**
+ Administer all network equipment, hardware, and software upgrades. Action/resolve incidents escalated by Networking I support and/or customers as per documented guidelines.
+ Available to be on-call.
+ Cabling/Patching within Data Centre.
+ Cisco Wireless troubleshooting a must, familiar with Wi-Fi Surveys.
+ Remote testing/triage to validate alert/event/incidents.
+ Contacting customer helpdesk and/or end user and guiding through advanced triage/troubleshooting to isolate network issue to hardware/cabling/transport.
+ Troubleshooting and resolving higher level network issues, not localized to single sites.
+ Serve as the technical point of contact for the customer, and for the L1 team. Escalating with vendors/customers and troubleshooting issues with their specialists to work through critical/escalated/chronic/aging issues to resolution.
+ Performing triage/troubleshooting with field engineers during site visits and vendor meets to identify/resolve advanced device hardware, configuration and/or software/IOS/Nexus issues.
+ Cisco ACI an asset.
+ Conduct and provide RCAs to customers for major incidents, critical escalations & chronic/repetitive issues.
+ Escalate issues for Level 3 support as per documented guidelines.
+ Provide testing, implementation & validation support for change management.
+ Provide analytical support for problem management activities being performed by Level 3 support.
+ Providing support for tools audit and QA activities being performed by Team Leads & Management.
+ Contributing to documentation and knowledge articles.
+ Participate in technical panel for hiring of Level 2/3 associates.
+ Participate in technical aspects of service transitions.
+ Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
+ Allocate time and tasks in the Time Reporting System.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Skills & Qualifications:**
+ 5+ years of experience
+ Associate, bachelor's or equivalent experience
+ ITIL knowledge/certification is a plus
+ **Cisco Certification(s) - CCIE**
+ **Juniper SDWAN**
+ **Checkpoint Security**
+ Cisco firewall experience is a plus
+ Some experience in project management
+ Incident Ticketing a must (e.g., Remedy, Service-Now, etc)
+ Cisco, CheckPoint, Cisco ACI, Cisco ISE
+ Routers, switches, APs, Wireless Controllers, Load Balancer, Site to site Datacenter and Closet Patching/Cabling
+ Sample of some/each should be provided
+ Strong troubleshooting skill on routers and switches for both LAN/WAN topology as well as Wireless

About the Opportunity

As a Senior Network Engineer , you will be responsible for maintaining the design, planning, configuration, and deployment of our network infrastructure. You will work closely with your peers to understand customer requirements and translate them into functional network solutions. In this role, you will be expected to advise junior network engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

This is a remote position for applicants in Canada or the USA.

What you will be doing (Job Duties)
  • Maintain the design, planning, configuration, and deployment of network applications and systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements
  • Guide the maintenance and testing of network infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot and debug network issues
  • Review and maintain technical documentation
    Evaluate network performance and architecture
    Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in network development
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior network engineers
    Influence multiple parts of a product or system through technical expertise
What you have (Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Deep knowledge of designing, developing, and maintaining complex network systems
    Ability to lead the direction and implementation of solutions for issues of moderate scope
  • Strong collaboration and persuasion skills when working with senior peers outside your domain
  • Hands-on experience with Juniper platforms (MX, PTX, ACX for routing; EX, QFX for switching)
  • Strong knowledge of routing protocols: OSPF, RSVP, LDP, iBGP, and eBGP
  • Expertise in configuration and software management for Juniper devices
  • Proficiency with access control lists (ACLs) and traffic filters
  • Experience with peering and transit, including managing connections to Internet Exchanges (IX)
  • Strong background in vendor lifecycle management for transit/transport (quoting, ordering, and implementation)
  • Proficiency with PeeringDB and IP address management (registration and transfer of IP blocks)
  • Knowledge of RPKI and experience working with the ARIN portal
  • Familiarity with colocation portals and cross-connect ordering
  • Ability to analyze and interpret NetFlow data
  • Experience with network automation and systems integration
  • Proficiency with Ansible and Jinja for configuration automation and templating
  • Experience advising and mentoring junior peers
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy
What's nice to have (Other Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Network/Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • 6–8 years of experience in network engineering
  • Experience with Juniper BNG implementation is a plus

The base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $40,000 USD for US residents OR 111,000 - 125,000 CAD for Canadian residents. Other countries will differ. Range may vary on a number of factors including, but not limited to: location, experience and qualifications.
