Job Title: Mining Engineering Co-op
Reporting directly to the Technical Services Manager, the Mining Engineering Co-Op Student is responsible for assisting Skeena’s Technical Services team by contributing to day-to-day operations while collaborating with the Operations and Project Execution teams. This dynamic position involves working in tandem with field technicians, assayers, and mining and geological engineers, making the Mine Engineering Co-Op student an integral part of the success of the Skeena Gold + Silver Team.
This role gives the student great exposure to the construction phase of a fast paced, challenging, and diverse mining environment, and provides a wonderful opportunity to develop your skills while adding value to the organization. This co-op opportunity provides a unique chance to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, enhancing your skills and fostering professional growth.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Technical Support:
- Operations and Execution Support: Provide technical support to the Operations and Execution teams for surface mining and construction activities.
- Engineering Assistance: Assist engineers with data analysis, monitoring, material balance activities, drawings preparation and review, and other technical deliverables.
Data Management and Analysis:
- Drill Hole Data Management: Load, review, and analyze drill hole data, and assist in managing the drill hole database.
- System/Data Monitoring: Identify and report any system or data abnormalities for investigation.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Production Reporting: Create and maintain accurate daily production reports, and prepare and present weekly production reports.
Field and Laboratory Work:
- Blast-Hole Assay Support: Assist with blast-hole assay sample collection and preparation.
- Field QA/QC and Surveying: Support field quality assurance/quality control work, field surveying, and geological mapping.
Productivity and Simulation:
- Productivity Simulations: Perform productivity simulations and cycle-time studies, advising engineering on forecasted mining and production rates.
Additional Responsibilities:
- All other duties as reasonably assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications:
- Active enrolment in an accredited undergraduate program – Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology/Earth Sciences
- Available for 4 or 8-month work term starting January 2026
- Practical understanding of the mining industry and mining processes
Experience / Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
- Any experience with CAD/GIS software will be considered an asset
- Familiarity working with or around heavy mobile equipment considered an asset
- Ability to adapt to new outdoor situations and work in varied terrain
- Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters
- Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed
- Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities

Work Location & Conditions
This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation. This is an 4 or 8-month co-op assignment.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
Compensation
The expected hourly rate range for this position is CA$25 - CA$35 p/h, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.

Your Opportunity
Stantec Consulting's mining team consists of more than 800 engineers and technicians working from offices around the globe. The mining group is composed of Mining, Geotechnical and Hydrogeological Engineers as well as Geologists providing services primarily to the mining industry. Our western Canadian mining team is based in Calgary and Vancouver and works for mining clients across a wide range of commodities, as well as supporting Stantec's North American and international offices. Projects range from scoping level mine planning and design through to feasibility studies, permitting and operational support and into reclamation and closure activities. As part of Stantec's mining team, you will be part of a highly motivated team involved in mine engineering studies, ranging from open pit mine design and scheduling through capital and operating cost estimates. Stantec's mining team pride ourselves on our ability to develop real-world solutions to mining problems and as part of our team you will develop the skills related to a wide variety of areas from feasibility to closure in developing and evaluating mining operations. Your education and work experience will provide you with the ability to work as a productive member of Stantec's integrated mining team.
Applicants must be prepared to travel and to potentially be in the field for assignment intervals of 1 to 2 weeks if projects require on-site support. This role is classified as full-time with benefits. Standard work week is 37.5 but additional time may be required depending upon workload and project requirements (overtime is compensated at straight-time rate for this position).
Your Key Responsibilities
We have an immediate opening for an intermediate level mining engineer to be based out of our Vancouver office. Applicants must possess strong computer skills as well as good written and verbal communication skills. Operational experience, and/or familiarity with the Hexagon mine design and planning software will be considered an asset. The individual should also be willing to travel for project work as required, although work would primarily be carried out of the individual's home office.
Responsibilities and essential job tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
- Data evaluation and interpretation including equipment productivity, costing and resource definition
- Open pit optimization, mine planning, scheduling and pit design
- Haul cycle calculations and cost estimation for mining equipment fleets
- Site operational support for short, mid and long-range planning
- Support for our environmental, geotechnical and tailings planning groups in the development and design of large mining and closure projects.
- Comply with and actively participate in Stantec and client safety programs.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (both written and oral communication).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Experience with mine planning and design software is an asset (ex. Hexagon Minesight, Deswik)
- Work experience in mining or resource industries is an asset.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in mining engineering.
- Preferred minimum of 5 years' industry or consulting experience.

**Pay Range:**
- Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 76,500.00 - Max Salary $ 110,900.00

Sous la supervision du Chef ingénieur minier, mine à ciel ouvert, le ou la titulaire du poste participera à toutes les phases d’évaluation et de développement des projets miniers à ciel ouvert locaux et internationaux. Il ou elle sera plus spécifiquement appelé(e) à :
- Contribuer à la collecte et à la compilation de données en vue d'amener divers projets à la construction et au stade de la production ;
- Contribuer à la rédaction d’études économiques, à savoir les rapports techniques, la préparation des études initiales, les études de préfaisabilité et de faisabilité ;
- Participer au processus de sélection de l'équipement pour les divers projets à l'étude ;
- Aider à l'élaboration des budgets de fonctionnement et d'évaluations économiques ;
- Concevoir les dessins selon les données spécifiques des divers projets ;
- Effectuer des présentations de rapports, de publications et d'exposés ;
- Contribuer à la planification globale de projets miniers ;
- Apporter votre contribution à diverses séances de résolution de problèmes afin d’assurer le succès des projets ;
- Veiller à l'exécution des tâches dans le respect de l’échéancier et du budget prévus ;

Qualifications
- Diplôme universitaire en génie minier ;
