The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

Under the guidance of the Senior Law Enforcement Officer, the Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for the enforcement of the Williams Lake First Nation's (WLFN) laws, programs, and initiatives through a proactive, sustainable, trauma-informed, holistic approach to community safety. This job will conduct investigations and inspections, respond to complaints in a professional and timely manner and work to achieve voluntary compliance whenever possible, utilizing excellent customer service skills. The Law Enforcement Officer will have a vital role in working closely with the WLFN administration, other external agencies, and community members to promote a safe and secure place for the members of Williams Lake First Nation.


Employment Type

Permanent, Full time, 7 days on, 7 days off.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

  • Bylaw Certificate.
  • Graduated recruit training from a recognized Police, Sheriff, CBSA, Federal Corrections, DFO or equivalent training from other Law Enforcement Agencies.
  • RCMP Security Cleared RCMP Reliability Status Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Bondable and clear criminal records check.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years experience in by-law enforcement or a related field. Peace officer experience may be considered.

Overtime Status

Non-Exempt.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Law Enforcement

  1. Monitor and ensure compliance with respect to the various WLFN policies and laws, such as the WLFN Fire Protection Law, WLFN Trespass & Nuisance Law, WLFN Cannabis Law, WLFN Land Code, Animal Control, and WLFN Matrimonial Real Property Law in the WLFN community.
  2. Investigate and track complaint areas and manage files to completion.
  3. Undertake enforcement duties, including the issuing of fixed penalties for offenses.
  4. Liaises with other stakeholders, including government agencies, law enforcement, and regulatory agencies, including (but not limited to) RCMP, City of Williams Lake, 150 Mile House Fire Department, Ministry of Environment, BC Conservation, and BC Corrections.
  5. Work with the WLFN Indigenous Policing Services (IPS) Constable (RCMP member assigned to WLFN to support prevention and promote relationships).
  6. Collaborate with the WLFN Social Development and Health Station team to provide support services and referrals to child or youth endangerment issues.
  7. Inspect properties to determine compliance with WLFN Housing policy in conjunction with the Housing department.
  8. Attend and give evidence in court, if required.
  9. Research and prepare correspondence, including Orders to Comply.
  10. Follow up with concerns from staff regarding safety issues with clients.
  11. Promote public safety in all areas including vehicle safety, ATV, snowmobile safety, bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, etc.
  12. Discuss law requirements with individuals involved and attempt to reach an understanding and obtain voluntary compliance with the law.
  13. Patrol community during work hours to ensure safety. Work with PD Security after hours as directed by immediate supervisor.
  14. Deliver BCRs, eviction notices, etc. when requested.
  15. Be available to discuss key community issues with elected officials and the CAO during duly convened Council meetings.
  16. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
  17. Contributes to WLFNs ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

Community Safety

  1. Provide a visible presence in our communities in order to reduce the fear of crime and reassure local people and make them feel safe and proud of where they live.
  2. Develop community spirit, by being approachable, responsive and by communicating positive news and dealing with problems quickly and professionally.
  3. Support vulnerable residents of all ages in a courteous and sensitive manner.
  4. Develop links with youth and other community groups and work with them to cut down on disorder.
  5. Encourage residents to take responsibility for reporting anti-social behavior and the outcomes of such behavior.
  6. Promote a caring, helpful, and unbiased attitude towards residents, visitors, the general public and remain polite and courteous.
  7. Report community safety issues raised by members, or environmental problems they see around them e.g. incidents, hazards, defects, fly-tipping, dog fouling, graffiti, litter, and vandalism.
  8. Write concise reports following incidents and process information accurately.
  9. Participate and assist in community-based events or at local initiatives.
  10. Undertake basic administrative and clerical duties as required.
  11. Monitor situations using CCTV or other equipment.
  12. Attend community-based meetings as directed, often in the evening.

What You Will Do:

  • High-visibility patrol of assigned areas, on foot and in company vehicles
  • Ensure the security of all personnel, visitors, and the general public
  • Respond against theft, trespassing, vandalism, and fire
  • Monitor property access control
  • Investigate and report suspicious behaviour, incidents, and security breaches
  • Enforce client-informed policies
  • Communicate with law enforcement, emergency medical personnel, and fire departments
  • Respond to and investigate alarms, ensuring properties are secure and in order before departing

Shift Details:

  • Full-time: Must be able to work 32 to 40 hours per week
  • Shifts: Night shifts (8-hour or 12-hour)
  • Mobile patrol team works out of the main operations office in BURNABY , which is accessible by transit
  • Parking provided at Head Office for successful candidate

You Are a Great Fit If You:

  • Hold a valid BC Security License
  • Have a valid Class 4 or 5 Driver's License, with a clean driver's abstract (NO previous suspensions and/or prohibitions)
  • Strong knowledge of Road Safety

Schedule:  Monday to Friday midnight to 8am

Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Conducting regular vehicle and foot patrols

Job Responsibilities:

  • Safely operating a Mobile Patrol motor vehicle in accordance with all laws and regulations;
  • Conducting security checks at client sites according to directives, standards and post orders;
  • Utilize company cell phones, two-way radios and Tracktik phone app;
  • Conducting alarm response to client sites as needed;
  • Conducting House Watch patrol if necessary;
  • Attending lone worker sites to check on workers when requested;
  • Ensuring incident and shift reports are completed including Run Sheets, Vehicle Inspection reports, Key Muster reports, Tracktik reports, Alarm reports and Inventory reports;
  • Reporting for shifts on time, and maintaining proper dress and deportment at all times;
  • Reporting any unsafe incidents, practices and/or issues;
  • Conducting vehicle checks at start of shifts and ensuring any issues are reported accurately;
  • Being respectful towards tools/equipment and ensuring proper key control at all times;
  • Ensuring vehicles are kept clean and washed as required;
  • Maintaining high standard of work ethic and professionalism;
  • Promoting a respectful workplace by displaying a courteous, professional attitude;
  • Keeping management aware of any unusual incidents;
  • Assisting in the training of new Patrol Drivers, and setting a good example at all times;
  • Completing any additional assignment as instructed by the Client Service Manager for Mobile Patrols.
  • Serve as the working representative of the Mobile Manager during off-hours
  • As directed and in coordination with the Mobile Manager, oversee and coordinate mobile activities/drivers (run sheets, alarm calls, trespass calls, dispatches) to maintain the highest level of service quality clients  
  • Triage, manage and control emergency or unexpected situations
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to all drivers
  • Ensure the Mobile Fleet is sound in appearance and operation; and in accordance with PPM 5.0 Vehicle Use Policy
  • Address and resolve driver conflicts, escalate and ask for help as necessary
  • Address both client and commissionaire issues as they arise while on shift
  • Monitor driver performance, report and provide constructive feedback to management
  • Ensure drivers are complying to company policies, safety regulations, and client-specific requirements
  • Ensure and reinforce health and safety protocols for all Mobile drivers and the community we serve

Your Must-Haves:

  • A valid B.C. security workers licence.
  • A valid BC driver's licence with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to write reports as required.
  • Work under pressure and have a calm demeanor.
  • Proficient at operating equipment such as cell phones and two-way radios.
  • Able to work independently, especially in the evenings and overnight.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients and the public
  • Ensure client property and personnel are safe secure, providing security inspections for assigned facilities
  • Conduct foot patrols, including standing and walking - must be physically fit
  • Interact with a wide range of people in varied environments
  • Compassionately and respectfully enforce private property laws
  • Observe, record, and report activities and security incidents while on shift
  • Flexible availability for morning, afternoon, evening and overnight shifts (*Must be available weekends*)

Mobile Patrol Drivers - General Responsibilities
21.00 - 23.50 (full-time position)


All of the above static guard responsibilities with the addition of the following:

  • At least 1 year of mobile patrol experience is required
  • Must be available for night shifts and weekends
  • Safely drive a security patrol vehicle to multiple client sites per night
  • Ability to get in and out of a vehicle multiple times per night - must be physically fit
  • Provide a mobile security presence throughout various areas of the city
  • Respond to alarms and varied callouts at client sites

These night shifts are for Mobile Patrol (driving): Different Night Shifts Available


The wage is $18 to start and goes to $18.50 upon performance review after 60 days of successful employment. Security runs 24/7 365 days a year - rain, snow, or good weather. If you can't drive in winter conditions this job isn't for you.

We are looking for professional and responsible Mobile Security Drivers to protect our customer sites, assets and personnel.

Your duties would include but are not limited to:

  • Patrolling client sites.
  • Responding to alarms.
  • Doing reports.
  • Reporting all site inconsistencies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry to authorized personnel only.
  • Locking and unlocking the premises at specified times as required by client specifications.
  • Prevent loss and damage to client site by reporting damage or repairs as required.
  • Observe for signs of crime or disorder and report accordingly.
  • Take accurate notes to complete reports, log book entries, and all relevant paperwork to a high standard - including reporting in detail any incidents occurring while on duty.
  • Ensure risk assessment and assignment instructions are followed at all times to meet customer requirements.
  • Deal with customers, staff and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring you are fully aware and understand the health and safety policy of the company and client.
  • To take effective action in an emergency and cooperate fully with dispatch and emergency services.


Qualifications:

  • Valid Alberta Security License.
  • Valid Drivers License (AB DL Class 5 or Canadian Equivalent).
  • Excellent verbal, observation, and written communication skills.
  • Good Organizational skills.
  • High level of professionalism and reliability.
  • Flexibility.
  • Ability to use initiative and be adaptable to situations.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and speak English fluently.
  • Must have a flashlight, a pen, and a notebook.


Again, these are driving shifts and you will be driving. You will be driving a company vehicle so a good driving record and good attitude is required. All road rules and laws must be followed.
