Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Promote a corporate culture of health and safety where safety is seen as a shared responsibility
- Support and promote Occupational Health & Safety Program and COR program alongside the Health & Safety Manager
- Work alongside the HR department on WorkSafe BC Claims, LTD, Leave of Absence and Return to Work Programs.
- Conduct Site Visits
- Monitor the safety compliance of workers and subcontractors.
- Proactively identify hazards and implement corrective measures in cooperation with the Health & Safety Manager
- Arrange and conduct safety meetings on-site
- Conduct Incidents/Investigations
- Participate in JOHS meetings, incident investigations and project kickoffs to take meeting minutes.
- Conduct hazard assessments, incident investigations and risk assessments
- Ensure all accidents, incidents, and injuries are properly reported to all appropriate parties and data are properly tracked for metrics
- Conduct and document site inspections and site hazard audits
- Implement Discipline
- Monitor, recommend and implement corrective action suggestions resulting from inspections, investigations, site visits, and safety committee reports
- Identifying and documenting unsafe acts or conditions that require immediate correction and communicating them to the parties involved
- Certificate of Recognition (COR)
- Ensure requirements for COR certification are being met
- Assist in the development and enhancement of Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Practice documents based on existing materials
- Review, on a continuous basis, the performance of the safety program and make recommendations on changes and improvements, should they be required
- Remain current on all WorkSafe BC and OH&S legislation
- Acquire competence and understanding in executing the Organizations Safety program
- Understand all business unit safety programs, company codes of business conduct, site-specific procedures and management systems
- Administer first aid as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- Certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designation is required.
- First Aid- intermediate certification is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of BCCSA COR is required.
- A minimum of 3+ years of high-rise experience as a CSO is required, preferably in multi-residential high-rises.
- Must have a valid BC driver's license-class 5 as well as a vehicle to travel between multiple sites in the Lower Mainland.
- Gold Seal certification is considered a strong asset.
- Solid knowledge of BC WorkSafe regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) are considered assets.
- Previous experience with Site Docs is considered a strong asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office package.

The Opportunity
Were hiring a Safety Officer who can lead and manage our health, safety, and environmental (HSE) program across a group of companies specializing in environmental response and hazardous materials management. This is a key leadership role responsible for driving a culture of safety across all field operations and ensuring regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate is organized, confident in the field, comfortable with documentation and audits, and capable of building a high-functioning safety program in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and manuals tailored to hazardous materials and emergency response operations
Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and internal audits across shop, yard, and job sites
Lead incident and near-miss investigations, prepare reports, and follow through with corrective actions and lessons learned
Track and coordinate staff training requirements, certifications, and compliance (including onboarding new hires)
Support COR audit preparation and lead internal reviews and reporting
Manage fleet safety oversight, maintenance logs, and inspections for trucks, trailers, and mobile equipment
Liaise with regulatory bodies and support permitting, reporting, and response protocols
Deliver toolbox talks, safety meetings, and in-house training sessions
Collaborate with operations teams to plan work safely and reinforce safety expectations
Monitor and report on safety KPIs, trends, and improvement opportunities to leadership
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, or equivalent such as NSCO or CHSC (in progress will be considered)
Minimum 1-2 years experience in a safety leadership role, ideally in environmental response, construction, or industrial services
Strong working knowledge of provincial (BC and AB) and federal safety legislation, including TDG and WHMIS
Familiarity with COR requirements, internal/external audit processes, and safety program development
Experience coordinating fleet compliance and heavy equipment safety
Comfortable leading training, investigations, and field audits
Strong organizational and communication skills
Computer proficiency with MS Office, SharePoint, and safety management software
Valid drivers license
First Aid (Basic or Intermediate); Fit Tester certification is an asset
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based, with regular travel to job sites and facility locations
Field exposure may include industrial sites, confined spaces, or hazardous materials (PPE provided)
Must be able to walk job sites and carry equipment or documents weighing up to 25 lbs
