The Network Engineer plays a vital role in supporting a hybrid network environment spanning WAN/LAN, data center, and cloud platforms (AWS & Azure). Responsibilities include network monitoring, health reporting, managing Palo Alto Firewalls and Prisma Access, conducting design reviews, and optimizing Graebel's network. The ideal candidate will take ownership of the network, proactively identifying and implementing improvements, making thoughtful recommendations on architecture, security, and performance. They must be able to work independently at times, collaborate effectively with the team, and be comfortable working off-hours when necessary for maintenance, upgrades, or issue resolution. Additionally, the candidate should be a flexible team player, willing to assist with general IT-related tasks such as supporting printers, computers, and other devices as needed, recognizing that these duties are not the primary focus but contribute to overall team success.
We are committed to fair and transparent compensation. The salary range for this role is based on several factors including experience, skills, and qualifications and is $100,000 to $20,000 CAD
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Design, implement, test, and support new and existing deployments, expansions, environment refreshes, and upgrades on Graebel's hybrid network (on-premises, data center, AWS, Azure).
+ Create technical deliverables including network assessments, capacity planning, detailed design documents, implementation plans, configurations, and change orders.
+ Skillfully design and implement management and control solutions, including (but not limited to) Meraki Dashboard, Palo Alto Firewalls, Prisma Access, Cisco ISE, and IDS/IPS systems.
+ Administer and troubleshoot Palo Alto Firewalls and GlobalProtect VPN.
+ Configure and design network settings, including cloud VNETs, VPCs, VLANs, switches, routers, firewalls, access points, and other devices from multiple vendors.
+ Provide peer reviews of implementations, configurations, and documentation.
+ Assist and mentor team members on deployments, best practices, and security protocols.
+ Engage in continuous learning to stay current on new and emerging technologies.
+ Develop and maintain strong relationships with peers and vendor partners.
+ Configure, implement, and report on intrusion detection systems and firewalls.
+ Define and uphold network security policies and protocols.
+ Provide high-level troubleshooting support for Microsoft Windows Server environments (2016 and newer).
+ Participate in an on-call rotation with the Infrastructure Team.
+ Perform other related duties as assigned, including acting as a secondary/tertiary backup on the Infrastructure Team, and assist with general IT support tasks such as printers and computers when needed to support the team.

Job Purpose & Summary
The Network Engineer will configure, maintain, and secure DUCA’s network infrastructure, comprised of LAN, WAN and VOIP network environments across corporate offices and branches, datacenters, and cloud. This role will contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.
Key Accountabilities & Duties
- Deploy and maintain Cisco network switches and routers
- Review, troubleshoot, and maintain Palo Alto firewalls & policies
- Configure and optimize software defined datacenter networking (VMware NSX-T)
- Investigate network infrastructure issues (including configuration review, packet inspection, etc.)
- Define, document, and enforce network systems & standards including network security policies and network access monitoring and controls
- Facilitate network tasks related to DUCA IT technology roadmap projects & initiatives
- Assist in short and long-term planning for network technology roadmap (including cross-technology and cross-platform configurations, resiliency & High Availability)
- Manage patching & security compliance of network devices
- Administer certificates & public DNS with appropriate third-party services
- Create templates and baseline configurations for network devices
- Manage backup & recovery of network configurations, and ensure high availability configurations are validated to support business continuity; participate in disaster recovery testing when required
- Facilitate technology audits in network categories as required

The Role

- Extensive knowledge of IP Networking protocols BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc. and hands-on experience managing large Service Provider Networks.
Experience and practical knowledge of network automation practices using Ansible playbook and Python programming.- Working knowledge in a Linux environment in addition to traditional networking.
- Comfortable working with ambiguous or vaguely defined challenges in finding technical solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a global team environment.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and network engineers.
- Proficiency in network automation tools such as Ansible (including AWX), Python scripting, and YANG data models will be highly regarded.
- Industry-recognized certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCP and JNCIE are highly preferred.
- Automation and DevOps-related certifications (e.g., DEV-NET) are considered an asset.

CARFAX Network Engineering is highly collaborative, diverse, and distributed team. We don't expect you to meet a rigid list of technical requirements, but we do require you to be a Network nerd with some great real-world experience. We have a total of 13 people on the Network Team. 5 Network Engineers, 5 in Network Operations and 3 Network DevOps. Our vacancy is in the group of 5 Network Operations Engineers. Your mission is to support and improve our Network.

The Network Operations team is responsible for monitoring, triage, routine changes, and special projects as assigned. The CARFAX Network Team does not do direct staff end-user support, however we regularly collaborate with multiple internal technical teams to support their projects. In addition, we're always evolving network capabilities with new technologies and projects to make our network secure, fast and reliable.
We are a fun-loving, low-stress team with minimal on-call responsibilities. We don't burn candle at both ends and we truly embrace a cooperative framework. We have a well developed on-boarding process to ease into your new job.
Here is what you would do:
- Maintain highly available network infrastructure across Cloud, Data Center, LAN, WLAN and WAN network environments.
- Lead or assist with projects that maintain and enhance CARFAX network environments.
- Lead or assist with network troubleshooting to resolve outages.
- Master multiple tools that monitor our network.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Report on network status and health.
- Have fun learn and grow.
Here is how we work: 1-on-1s with teammates and manager, well-developed change management process, with detailed planning, regular team retros, close collaborations inside and outside our team, sharing knowledge with regular "Silo Crush" meetings, extensive use of Confluence, lots of training, no finger pointing and blame, free to be yourself!
Qualifications: We don't expect you to meet all qualifications, but all applicants should meet most qualifications.
- Must be interested in both traditional and cloud environments.
- Ability to operate effectively in a multi-vendor environment.
- 1+ years of L2 and L3 experience.
- 1 + years of Enterprise Wifi experience.
- Familiarity with how firewalls work.
- Basic familiarity and interest in Python, Ansible, Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform.
- CCNA certification OR equivalent understanding and experience.
Desired Skills: All of the following are desirable but not required:
- AWS, Azure, Google Cloud.
- F5, Silver Peak, Infoblox, Cisco and Palo Alto.
- Python, Ansible and Terraform.
- VXLAN, ISE
- Logic Monitor, Kentik and Forward Networks.
