As an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)  at Monarch House your primary responsibility is implementing interventions for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental delays and/or motor delays. Your role of Occupational Therapy Assistant is to execute intervention plans developed and supervised by a Registered Occupational Therapist to clients in care of Monarch House. The Assistant will work within an interdisciplinary team while providing an engaging and positive client experience in a fast paced and frequently changing environment.

Please note that we do not offer LMIA or independent contractor setup 
Employment setup:  Part-time. Hourly. 
Salary:  From $23-24/hr
Work setting:  Center-based
Work Schedule:  (may not be scheduled for all) 

Wednesday at 12 noon - 2PM PST; 3PM - 4PM PST
Saturdays till 4PM PST
Weekday evening availability till 7:30PM PST (ideal)

  • Implementation of treatment plans based on best practices.
  • Prepares teaching materials and organizes teaching environment
  • Responsible for creating a positive and engaging environment for the client
  • Responsible for maintaining the well-being and safety of the client while under their care
  • Responsible to track client progress through the collection of data and graphing while keeping clients engaged

Here is what you will need to be successful

  • Post-secondary course work in Occupational Therapy.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working as an OTA
  • Current Standard CPR and First Aid Certificate

Job Description

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager, the Women and Children’s Occupational Therapist is part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, 
providing intervention, follow up care and education to patients attending the Women’s and Children’s complex, subspeciality, Paediatric Outpatient clinics. This role is also integrated into the inpatient Neonatal Intensive Care and Paediatric units where patient assessments,
interventions, and discharge planning occur in collaboration with is required. This role will support the Women and Children’s program operations related to the scope of practice for occupational therapists including 1:1 patient visits and group sessions at all Osler locations, as well as collaborate with departments outside the Women and Children’s program engaged in overlapping patient care, as needed and directed by the leadership team.

Qualifications

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works collaboratively with the patient and family, allied health team, nursing, and pediatricians to manage medical care using a paediatric-focused 
approach, through history taking, creating and implementing a plan of care, monitoring, and evaluating patient outcomes on an ongoing basis, 
and provide recommendations for discharge planning
• Administers standardized and on-standardized assessments of infant and toddler feeding and development
• Provides individual and group-based (virtual or in-person) education sessions on development and feeding
• Readily available for patient consultation requests from members of the Women’s and Children’s team
• Provides care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
• Provides OT services to the NICU/inpatient paediatric units
• Supports Mental Health Program with educational group sessions related to Women and Children’s perinatal mental health


QUALIFICATIONS:

B.Sc. or or equivaent in Occupational Therapy
• Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
• Membership in CAOT or OSOT
• Recent experience in Neonatal and Paediatrics within last 2 years required
• Experience in infant and toddler feeding assessment and treatment required
• Knowledge of infant and toddler development and experience with neurodevelopment assessment and treatment preferred
• Experience with preterm, medically fragile and complex patients between 0-3 years of age
• Experience with relevant assessment tools, including Alberta Infant Motor Scale, Erhardt Fine motor Developmental Prehension Assessment and 
Early Screening Inventory preferred
• Experience in infant feeding assessment and treatment, as well as neurodevelopment assessment and treatment
• Experience working in inpatient and outpatient settings with children from 0-3 years of age experiencing both feeding concerns and developmental delays
• Demonstrated ability to manage high caseload volumes
• Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with excellent time management and organizational skills required
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
• Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
• Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension)
• Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work record
• May be required to travel between and work at all hospital sites



Additional Information

Hours: Currently days/nights, 8 hours shifts including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

Salary:
Minimum: $41.73 per hour
Maximum: $54.79 per hour

A Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy assistant at VHA Home HealthCare will provide client-centered clinical care under the direction and supervision of a Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist. You will be conducting home visits for the clients of VHA as per the Physiotherapist's/Occupational therapist's recommendations.


 

Areas of accountability:

VHA's Physiotherapy Assistants/Occupational Therapy Assistants have the following key areas of accountability, but not limited to:

  • Assist/supervise the client with his/her individual prescribed exercise programs or ADL training

  • Assist/supervise client with walking, transfers, stairs, safe mobility, and positioning using proper body mechanics

  • Provide client/family education and support to address physical, functional, and self-care needs as assigned

  • Assist with gross motor, fine motor, and balance activities

  • Monitor and report changes in health status to the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist

  • Participate in program planning, quality improvement, and evaluation

  • Document in the client record and collect required data as requested 

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma as an OTA/PTA from an accredited college program.

  • You have a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience, preferably in the community working with geriatric clients with variable diagnoses and multiple co-morbidities.

  • You are a skilled communicator and have a successful track record of coaching/mentoring clients to participate in a professional manner.

  • Current First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate required.

  • Evidence of continuous education.

  • Sound critical thinking, good judgment, and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of rehabilitation principles and techniques.

**Job Summary**
Responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients within the scope of Occupational Therapy, determining plan of care and setting goals of treatment. May provide oversight to therapy assistants, therapy aides and/or students in following the plan-of-care and treatment of patients. Works collaboratively as a part of a patient care team toward the best outcomes for patients.
**What you will do:**
+ Evaluates assigned patients and establishes a treatment plan and goals, using data from a variety of sources, such as patient records, interviews, observation and team members.
+ Completes patient treatment according to plan of care and modifies plan to meet patient needs, and updates plan as appropriate.
+ Completes documentation accurately, timely, according to regulatory and state licensure requirements, and within professional standards.
+ Collaborates with other healthcare professionals as necessary to ensure smooth continuous care of the patients. May act as a liaison with nursing, medical and other therapy staffs to facilitate problem solving and coordination of other services and act as an educational resource.
+ May mentor and provide oversight to new caregivers, occupational therapy assistants, and/or therapy aides. May provide clinical instruction and training to students.
+ May recommend and participate in development of new services and programs, quality improvement and monitoring activities.
+ Maintains appropriate clinical records.
