**What's the role**
The Shell Scotford Upgrader team is seeking a five (5) Process Operator (also known internally as Production Team Member) to join the team at the Scotford Refinery. As the Process Operator, you will be part of a team that is tasked with the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of our assets. This role will also offer the opportunity to progress in an environment that encourages both personal and professional development, and to be part of some of the most ground-breaking projects anywhere in the industry.
The Shell Scotford Complex is a short drive from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and consists of a bitumen upgrader, oil refinery, chemicals plant, and a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility. It is one of North America's most efficient, modern, and integrated hydrocarbons processing sites, converting oil sands bitumen into finished, marketable products.
**Accountabilities:**
+ Ensure that plant operations are conducted in a safe manner, and that all safety and environmental regulations are followed
+ Monitor unit operations and troubleshoot process problems
+ Execute unit objectives and tasks for the shift to meet the overall production and budget goals
+ Make sound decisions based on Safe Work Practices, Policies and Operating Procedures
+ Participate actively and constructively in team meetings, safety meetings, inspections, and high potential pre-job safety meetings (Critical Task Analysis)
+ Permit work in area of control following standards, policies and procedures for the execution of safe work
+ Complete unit HSSE and Process Safety checks
+ Work with Maintenance and Engineering colleagues for the execution of various maintenance tasks
+ Safe out and isolate equipment as required for repair or maintenance activities
+ Perform routine rounds in the plant to observe and verify equipment status and overall plant conditions
+ Enter clear and complete work orders for execution of tasks by maintenance
+ Perform housekeeping duties as necessary on and around equipment, process area, and control room, keeping equipment and plant site clean
+ Perform various sampling and testing tasks based on unit needs
+ Identify opportunities for optimization and/or improvement in area of control
+ Adhere to Respectful Workplace Policies
**What you bring**
+ Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
+ Must possess a high school diploma
+ Must possess a valid driver's license
+ Must have a minimum of a 3rd class steam ticket with consideration for a 4th if the candidate possesses production and maintenance experience
+ At least 3 years' relevant experience is preferred
+ Candidates with second skilling such as previous maintenance experience or trade tickets are preferred
+ Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level
+ Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
+ Must be willing to participate in an emergency response team including Fire Fighting Training
+ Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures
+ Have good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting abilities
+ Must be willing to work overtime shifts, willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as per the rotating sift schedule
+ Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather
+ Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces

- Understand and execute the support processes for the department and site
- Ensure work unit production targets are met on a daily basis.
- Promote and participate in continuous improvement activities related to both Safety and the process
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent.
- Fourth Class Power Engineering certificate and a member in good standing with ABSA
- Proof of successful completion of the 4th Class Steam Ticket is require
- 2-5 years Process Operator Experience is preferred
- DCS or DELTA V control system
- This position requires shift work. The shifts will be rotating twelve-hour (days to night) shift schedule.
