What Makes You a Great Fit

- College Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
- Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in rigid primary packaging

Responsible for the coordination and development of packaging component specifications; managing the change of existing or establishment of new components.
We have **2** positions available.
**What will you do:**
+ Manage all packaging component changes and artwork approvals for new and revised commercial products, commercial launches, and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS) projects.
+ Lead the development of packaging components for new commercial products, technical transfers, and PDS projects as a technical expert on the project team, participating in internal and external project meetings.
+ Request for and provides pricing for all packaging components.
+ Initiate SAP part requests for new packaging components.
+ Develop component specifications and manage the change or establishment of new components.
+ Review and approve all packaging artwork for technical requirements, i.e. die lines, print specs, standards, print process.
+ Determine optimal timing for introduction of new packaging changes to support client product changes.
+ Identify risks, opportunities and contingencies as it relates to packaging and artwork development.
+ Support vendors investigations regarding corrective action when required.
+ Assist clients in artwork design for packaging line requirements. Provides correct technical information regarding packaging i.e. bottles, caps, foil etc to clients.
+ Provide technical support for QA for quality deficiencies, and non-compliant materials.
+ Standardize packaging formats to meet production development requirements of Patheon.
+ Act as a technical resource to the Procurement, Operations, Business Management, and other groups.
+ Collect data at the plant level to identify cost savings opportunities.
+ Lead projects for the team to improve procedures and processes.
+ Research new packaging materials and methods that could result in cost savings and or improve product quality.
+ Write all Change Controls as they relate to Packaging Components Specifications.
+ Perform alternating or rotating shifts as required

College/Technical School diploma in related technical field
**Experience:**
Minimum 3 years previous related experience within a manufacturing/pharmaceutical environment.
**Equivalency:**

Computer literate. Working knowledge of an ERP system. Able to work directly with suppliers to establish artwork and specifications. Must be organized and able to work independently. Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of packaging equipment and facilitate improvements to meet the production schedule. Ensure product quality meets the standards of Patheon, our clients, and applicable regulatory agencies including, but not limited to the Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate (HPFBI), United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and European Medicines Agency (EMEA).

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Structural Packaging Designer brings strong technical expertise in packaging engineering and prototyping. This role involves creating dielines, validating designs, and guiding artwork setup for various packaging types, including folding cartons, corrugated boxes, and flexible packaging. The candidate will also engage with clients and internal teams to ensure seamless communication and delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and prototype dielines for folding cartons, corrugated boxes, and flexible packaging (stand-up pouches and flat lay pouches).
- Test and validate dielines to ensure compatibility with manufacturing and customer requirements.
- Work with Sales, Production co-ordinators, Pre-press, and production team to coordinate the engineering of packaging.
- Create Standardized dieline that can be re-used for multiple projects, in the industries of : Food, Beverage, Cannabis, Health and wellness, Petfood.
- Evaluate existing customer or prospective customer packaging for possible
- Improvement in style, function, appearance, cost and/or ease of packaging
- Create detailed setup guides for artwork, including layout recommendations and compliance standards.

- Collaborate with client departments to refine dielines and ensure feasibility.

- Maintain consistency with industry standards and company quality expectations.
- Assist Pre-press for adjustments that need to be made from customer provided dielines to ensure good reproduction.

Key Experience & Qualifications:
- Proficient in packaging design software such as AutoCAD, ArtiosCad, Adobe Illustrator, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of packaging engineering and prototyping.
- Needs to be able to create dieline for multiple Materials. (SBS stock, corrugated etc) and to be able to adjust dielines from one material to another.
- Be knowledgeable about Konsberg / Zund applications
- Ability to troubleshoot design and production challenges.
