**The Opportunity!**
As a **Placement Broker** , you will provide support to our Commercial Lines team in marketing a wide variety of risks throughout our Alberta region. By providing support on commercial placements, you will maintain direct contact with insurance companies and our HUB offices to ensure top, competitive terms and risk solutions are provided for new and renewal business.
**A day in the life -**
+ Provide marketing support for all types of commercial placements within the Alberta region including large and mid-market new business.
+ Engage with Producers and the Chief Sales Officer to provide marketing support for HUB Top 200 and other Stewardship accounts as required.
+ Support Producers with market and coverage availability and interpretation of wordings.
+ Collaborate with Producers, the Chief Sales Officer and Chief Marketing Officer to develop and implement niche markets and programs.
+ Fully understand our existing programs and products.
+ Be proficient with wordings and the subtle differences between markets.
+ Assist with coaching new Producers and Assistants on various commercial products and topics.
+ Maintain effective communication with our key carriers and help to coordinate insurer visits and training as required.
+ Regularly engage with HUB branches and Producers to exchange ideas with commercial team members, build relationships and encourage the use of the Marketing department.
+ Actively participate in commercial lines meetings as required.
+ Attend and participate in company meetings and events as required, including occasional off-site.
**What You Bring To The Team -**
+ Minimum 3-5 years of commercial insurance experience and knowledgeable insurance professional; commercial lines underwriting experience is an asset.
+ Level 2 General Insurance License.
+ Ready to work hard and crush goals.

We are looking for two (2) post-secondary placement students to join our Outreach Team! The placement students will work with our Outreach Team to support individuals in accordance with the Housing First philosophy of immediate access to permanent housing with no readiness requirements, consumer choice and self-determination, recovery orientation, individualized and client driven supports, and social/community integration.


The placement is unpaid and will be up to four (4) months long and for students looking to complete preferably 300 or more placement hours, beginning in Fall 2025. This placement has shifts Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, but there is flexibility for the students to work 12-hour shifts, shadowing Outreach Workers, if they wish. All placement hours would be scheduled in consultation with the incumbent students.


Status: Unpaid Post-Secondary Student Placements, hours per week (dependent on student schedule and supervisor or preceptor); Note, this posting is for an active vacancy.

Location: 60 West Drive, Brampton. Due to the nature of this program, this role is on-site and/or community based.


What You Will Do:

  • Build client capacity, empowerment and create self-reliance.
  • Develop and initiate relationships with prospective clients based on trust, respect, and honesty.
  • Aid with securing/matching appropriate affordable housing for those who are homeless or at risk in the Region of Peel.
  • Work with Outreach team to support the transition of persons into housing utilizing a Critical Time Intervention Approach to Housing-Based Street Outreach.
  • Set short and long-term goals with persons involved and create and document support plans to reach those goals. Make additional referrals as appropriate.
  • Conduct Case Conferencing with support system of persons involved in the program.
  • Make minimum of one weekly community/home visit (alongside Outreach staff) with unsheltered or those at risk of homelessness to offer support, connect to resources, etc.
  • As appropriate, work with Region of Peel Housing Stability Workers to support life skills teaching to help build Client capacity to maintain housing, especially focusing on tenancy skills and knowledge.
  • Support the overall operation of the Street Outreach and Street Helpline responses.

What You Need to Join Our Team:

  • Current university or college student in social work/social services, nursing, mental health and addictions or an equivalent program
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with management and front-line staff
  • Well-developed and demonstrated knowledge of mental health, mental illness, stress management, anti-stigma, workplace wellness, mental health system issues and health promotion principles (Knowledge of concurrent disorder, addictions, and dual diagnosis would be an asset)
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and how to apply it during client interactions in order to deliver holistic patient care
  • Some evenings required and an ability to travel within Peel Region from time to time
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.
  • Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework.
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset.
  • Valid Canadian driver's license, relevant insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report.

To support that challenge, the US East and Canada Market Segment Team is currently seeking a Product Placement Scientist , to be located in Leamington, Ontario, Canada area, with a focus on variety trialing in high-tech greenhouse cultivation. 

Role Purpose:

  • Product Placement Scientists are key technical contributors, performing the testing, selection and advancement of new vegetable seeds products.
  • To specialize in high-tech greenhouse cultivation techniques and their impact on variety performance and selection.
  • To work with commercial sales team and growers, and directly perform and manage sowing, planting, and evaluating precommercial variety trials.
  • To be a high impact team member by effectively collaborating with the Market Segment, Commercial Sales, Breeding, and other Crop R&D Teams.
  • To develop deep knowledge of key crops and regional markets and to build a strong network of dealer & grower collaborators.
  • To evaluate crop product performance using synthesized information from analysis of trial data, from growers, and from industry feedback on their needs. 
  • To deliver recommendations for advancement and product placement of new varieties with high probability of success based on subject matter expertise and trial data analysis.
  • To be an active adopter of high-throughput phenotyping technologies, environment typing, data capture tools, robust analysis, collection of crop management data, and data-driven decision making.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop expertise in high-tech greenhouse crop management strategies and their effects on plant and variety performance.
  • Manage off-site trialing and deliver quality data, analysis, and recommendations to support advancement decisions.
  • Find, place, sow, transplant, check, and evaluate early stage, pre-commercial vegetable varieties in greenhouses. Work with growers, dealer partners, and greenhouse managers, to ensure continuity and prompt, professional communication with all collaborators. 
  • In collaboration with crop team colleagues, establish the number of trials and varieties tested to support commercial objectives.
  • Act as the primary liaison between breeding teams and North American greenhouse operations, providing critical field observations and insights.
  • Develop and deliver yearly trial plans according to market segment strategies. Plan yearly resources allocations.
  • Collect trial data in fields with Syngenta employees or third-party collaborators.
  • Organize and lead Product Advancement Tours to present new product candidates for advancement, effectively communicating and 'selling' the story of each variety's potential.
  • Track and deliver successful pipeline progress toward target product profiles.
  • Partner with stakeholder groups to optimize trial designs and adopt new technologies to enhance quality, capacity, and/or efficiency of trialing program.
  • In collaboration with the commercial organization, establish on-farm collaborations with key customers; create a customer centric culture; and deliver solutions to our customers faster by exchanging data and information.
  • Use Syngenta tools for data storage, data collection, material tracking, and software for data analysis and data visualization.
  • Be an owner and advocate for Biosafety, Health, Safety and Environment compliance and ethics, and the quality system requirements according to Syngenta internal standards.
  • Contribute to achieving the company sustainability targets.

  • Work within the Syngenta Vegetable Seeds organization; achieve a collaborative, customer-focused team with Breeding, Product Development, and Sales/Marketing teams within a Market Segment and/or geography.
  • Ability to discern variety performance characteristics while accounting for the significant impact of crop management in greenhouse environments.
  • Be an owner and efficient steward of available resources.
  • Good health state to stand hard work conditions (hot, cold, humid).
  • A flexible and agile attitude; thriving in a dynamic environment, quick adaptation to new situations and requests.

Qualifications

Required:

  • M.S. in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics or a related field, or relevant crop related work experiences.
  • Experience with or understanding of controlled environment agriculture, high-tech greenhouse cultivation systems and practices.
  • Experience in plant variety trialing.
  • Strong communication skills for planning with stakeholders, summarizing experimental results, and effectively presenting variety potential to support conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in high and low temperature conditions in field or greenhouse.
  • Willingness to travel, with frequency changing through the year based on crop season. During main trialing season travel could be ~50-70%.

Preferred:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in relevant field preferred.
  • Knowledge of agronomy and growing techniques.
  • Experience in working with growers and related companies or functions in the crop production or value chain.
  • Knowledge about plant breeding and genetics.
  • Understanding the vegetable market and crop specifications.
  • Ability to 'see through' crop management effects to accurately assess variety performance potential.
