Position Summary
The Plant Manager, under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, People and Culture, will primarily be responsible for overseeing the manufacturing environment. This position will develop strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals. This role will also seek opportunities to improve efficiencies and undertake continuous improvement objectives. The Plant Manager must be a positive role model in the workplace, displaying adaptability, leadership, and innovation.

Responsibilities:
What you'll do:
- Cultivate a work environment committed to the health, safety, and wellness of all employees, and ensure safe work practices are followed.
- Plan and conduct meetings with supervisors to communicate team targets, goals, and projects.

- Assist sales with rush order requests.
- Hold staff accountable for the performance objectives.
- Promote continuous improvement in the workplace and be a champion for change in the organization.
- Participate in departmental planning activities.
- Translate strategic goals into practical actions.
- Stay up to date on new and emerging trends in the manufacturing industry.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Experience with coaching and development of supervisor-level employees.

OVERVIEW:
As the Plant Manager, you lead the Manufacturing Group. The goal of the Manufacturing Group is to manage in-house and external manufacturing resources to fabricate and deliver on-time quality products to our customers.
You are the directly responsible individual for effective and efficient manufacturing of products for our customers. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the senior management team, contributing to strategic planning, operational targets, and business objectives.
- Develop ROI analyses and business cases for equipment upgrades and organizational improvements.
Daily Operations
- Lead day-to-day production team resource management to ensure efficient operations by enabling: timely and efficient communication of information; timely procurement and distribution of material; timely and efficient production processes; timely and efficient packaging and shipping of product
- Review customer contracts and requirements to assess production capacity and capability, ensuring manufacturing can deliver on time and to specification before commitments are made. Collaborate with Sales and Design teams to align customer expectations with production realities.
- Manage production schedules to optimize efficiency, equipment utilization and delivery dates.
- Ensure smooth documentation and communication flows within the Manufacturing Team and across company teams.
- Oversee quality management systems, ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements. Ensure all testing, inspection, and documentation are completed, and that non-conformances are properly documented, analyzed, and addressed to minimize recurrence and cost impact.
- Provide direct customer support when manufacturing issues require escalation, ensuring customer-focused problem resolution and communication.
- Ensure complete and accurate data entry across company systems (MRP, CRP, order entry, schedule data input, work order traveler data, non-conformance records, timecards, etc.).
- Oversee procurement operations and key supplier relationships to ensure timely, cost-effective procurement of materials needed for efficient production, including general stock levels, raw materials, assemblies, and parts manufactured by third parties.
- Manage inventory control systems and processes to maintain accurate stock levels, optimize turnover, and provide regular reporting and analysis. Ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained for general inventory, project materials, and consumables to support efficient production operations.
- Ensure maximum equipment availability through planned maintenance, emergency repair management, and current certifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized physical plant.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are understood and followed.
Planning and Analysis
- Meet established manufacturing KPIs including delivery performance, quality metrics, and operational efficiency targets. Analyze performance data to identify improvements and report results to management.
- Review and understand the impact of resource constraints and potential future orders, and work with other groups (e.g. Sales & Design) to ensure customer needs & expectations are met.
- Report production results and use information available across the company to project future volumes.
- Ensure Quality documentation analysis to identify areas for improvement, minimize recurrence and cost impact.
- Ensure proper performance data is recorded to enable analysis of performance and identify improvements to processes, equipment, or products.
- Identify new equipment needs and prepare business case and capital investment proposals.
- Identify and mitigate potential constraints with minimal organizational impact.
People Leadership
- Support and promote our company culture by creating a work environment that fosters collaboration, creativity, innovation and staff engagement.
- Work with company resources to recruit, interview, on-board, train, mentor, coach, discipline and terminate manufacturing staff as needed.
- Provide or facilitate any training needed for the Manufacturing Group.
- Guide staff on policies and procedures.
- Coach and mentor the manufacturing team.
- Recommend changes in staffing levels to ensure the right levels of staff are available for work required of the Manufacturing Group.
- Conduct performance reviews of all Manufacturing Group personnel in line with company policy.
- Authorize overtime, vacations and sick leave for all personnel within the Manufacturing Group.
- Ensure all staff have access to the appropriate training and assist with staff training when required.
Operational Excellence
- Monitor and control manufacturing costs to optimize operational efficiency. Collaborate with leadership in budget development and provide cost reporting to support financial planning and decision-making.
- Work with suppliers, vendors, subcontractors and internal departments to identify creative, effective solutions to challenges.
- Continuously seek to reduce cost and increase operational efficiency.
- Foster a can-do attitude.
- Continuously seek to enhance speed and efficiency without compromising safety or quality, by observing current production processes and encouraging active discussion by team members.
Health & Safety
- Instill a Safety Culture in the Manufacturing Team.
- Ensure WorkSafe regulation compliance.
- Participate as a member of (and lead if necessary) the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
- Monitor First Aid reports to identify trends and avoidable risks.
- Ensure a current Fire Safety Plan is maintained.
- Conduct periodic emergency evacuation procedures as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in leading manufacturing operations (10 years' experience is a strong asset)
- Excellent organizational and leaderships skills
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Experience with monitoring and reporting KPIs in a manufacturing setting
- Excellent project management skills
- Strong decision-making skills with a results-driven approach
- Demonstrated ability in manufacturing and/or steel fabrication experience

SUMMARY
The Plant Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the treating plant's operations. Reporting to the General Manager, this position includes coordinating daily plant activities and scheduling production to achieve corporate objectives, achieve environmental standards, and ensure compliance to quality control measures. The primary goal is to produce high-quality treated lumber products while ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
This is a hands-on position requiring a leader who will roll up their sleeves and lead by example. Approximately 25 staff report to this position. The position requires a team builder who will spend 80% of their time on the plant floor and 20% of their time performing administrative responsibilities.
EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
PLANT OPERATIONS
- Oversee daily production activities, set production goals, and identify opportunities for improvement in safety, quality, and equipment reliability.
- Lead daily safety meetings to promote a culture of safety within the plant and maintain a clean and safe working environment for all employees.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained to meet quality, productivity, and reliability standards and minimize downtime.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts, providing technical expertise to identify problems and implement effective solutions; manage and prioritize projects in a cost-effective manner.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience in lumber manufacturing is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to train and direct staff, motivating and developing team members while setting and monitoring performance standards.
- Strong coaching and team-building skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities with a knack for managing competing priorities effectively.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- The typical hiring range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 annually. The base pay offered is based on geographical location and may vary depending on the applicant’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. Similar positions located in other geographical locations may not necessarily receive the same salary range. The compensation information is an estimate and provided to meet with applicable provincial Pay Transparency legislation.

Purpose of the job: The Plant Manager is responsible for the safe manufacturing of high-quality recycled rubber products in an efficient, productive and cost effective manner while being highly customer service oriented internally and externally. The Plant Manager also provides leadership, coaching and development to his/her direct reports (Production, Maintenance & Administration) to promote the NWR core values and support the achievement of the company objectives.
Key responsibilities include planning and scheduling production, managing budgets, overseeing staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.In addition, you will be responsible to ensure equipment maintenance, implement quality control systems, and foster a productive work environment for employees.
Reports to: Vice President of Operations
Direct Reports: Maintenance Manager, Production Manager, Quality, Automation (4), 2 Admin
Responsible for: 35 employees
Plant Schedule: 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week

Key Result Areas:
- Safety: Achieve a 0 Lost Time Incident rate, improve safety culture, and reduce risk score
- Quality: Achieve > 94% 1st grade mat quality
- Service: Achieve > 98% On-time shipments and > 98% Complete shipments and <7 days to ready
- Plant Performance: Achieve the annually budgeted volume and productivity targets and develop an actionable list of throughput, productivity, and efficiency improvement initiatives to show measurable continuous improvements.
- Cost: Achieve budgeted cost per unit targets and identify an actionable list of initiatives to reduce cost per units.
- People: Hire required Production, Maintenance and Administration staff to achieve plant performance. Ensure that all employees receive proper onboarding support and ongoing performance reviews with emphasis on demonstration of the NWR core values, and individual productivity and attendance. Achieve annual Turnover rate of <20% and Absenteeism Level of < 3.5%.
Responsibilities:
- Operations Manage the daily operations of the plant and be an effective member of the larger Operations Team.
- Leadership - To support NWRs growth vision and to create the desired performance culture
- Health & Safety, Quality, Environment To create a safety culture, lead the process of systems development, implementation and management including audits and compliance measures. Ensuring compliance with legal regulations
- Reliability To improve plant performance and consistency of results through employee development, preventive maintenance, process improvements & capital projects implementation.
- Productivity To create a culture of continuous improvement and engagement by all people to make processes more efficient.
- Cost To build and deliver the budgeted cost per mat Including all budgeting activities and on-going cost management.
- Capital To support the execution of all current capital projects and the development and justification of all future capital projects.
- People Collaborate with HR for all employee related matters including hiring, training, coaching & development, performance management, communications, and formal/informal rewards.
- Customer Service To foster a positive team ethos geared towards profitability, satisfying customer requirements, and a sense of urgency to address customer concerns.

Prerequisites
- Minimum of 5 years manufacturing management experience with a minimum of 3 years experience in maintenance
- University degree preferred with a preference for candidates with mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, process engineering degrees
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage with all levels in the organization
- Strong financial acumen in support of budgeting activities and investment justification
- Lean & Six Sigma working knowledge and track record of results.
- Root cause analysis and problem-solving skills, demonstrated through continuous improvement projects and results .
- Maintenance management experience (CMMS)
- A successful track record in developing and implementing effective manufacturing systems (QMS, CMMS, ERP, HS&E, MES, KPI Reporting, etc.)
- Strong capital planning and execution experience
- Previous experience with management of rapid change in a high growth environment would be an asset.
- Proficient with MS Office suite of products
- Ability and availability to travel internationally as required.
