ABOUT THE ROLE:
This is a specialized position within Commercial Underwriting that will assist in the oversight of the existing large commercial loans within the commercial mortgage portfolio. Majority of the large commercial loans are sourced through third party servicers. It includes conventional loans as well as CMHC insured loans. Loan sizes are typically large than $2,250,000. The Senior Analyst, Large Commercial is primarily responsible for underwriting renewals and annual reviews for large commercial mortgages in accordance with on-going regulatory, risk and compliance requirements. Large commercial loans typically would require a more detailed analysis when compared to small commercial loans due to the loan size, variety of asset classes and locations, and the complexity of the sponsors loan structure. As such, the Analyst, Large Commercial will be required to complete a thorough review at each renewal / annual review. Additional credit related and administrative duties are also required to support management and regulatory requirements.
In addition:
- Analyse and underwrite renewals and annual reviews with a primary focus in large commercial loans, as part of the ongoing portfolio oversight
- Complete a detailed analysis of the borrower, guarantor, real estate security and loan terms as well as identifying any associated risk.
- Communicate on a regular basis, with direct clients, third party servicers or internal partners regarding mortgages that are maturing and/or coming up for annual review. Request due diligence materials and follow up for any outstanding conditions precedent to renewal/annual review
- Ensure all files and the SAP system of record are accurate and complete. The annual review/renewal document should provide sound risk assessments and be well documented following Homes policies, guidelines and procedures and meeting post-funding ERM quality assurance requirements
- Complete assumption, partial discharge, or other ad-hoc requests in a timely manner.
- Maintain workflow and complete the underwriting of annual review and renewal files within the target amount of time
- Maintain a high level of industry knowledge, competition and market trends
- Attain service standards for processing all mortgage transactions in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Communicate with internal and external partners to ensure that all transactions are processed efficiently and effectively.
- Escalate issues/obstacles/trends as appropriate with recommendations/solutions
- Ensure all transactions adhere to and are appropriately risk rated with a sponsor, property and aggregate rating
- Maintain files in compliance with all aspects of Home Trust Companys underwriting policies and guidelines per delegated authority matrices and applicable compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/ Anti-Terrorist Financing and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements
- Ensure Unusual Transaction Reports are filed as applicable to fulfil individual employee obligations to detect and deter financial crimes activity
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for senior management, as necessary.
WHAT WE REQUIRE:
- Authorized to work in Canada
- 2 years of experience in commercial underwriting
- Understanding of commercial mortgage products
- Strong organizational, time-management and analytical skills to work effectively with established guidelines
- Able to multi-task and flourish in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment
- Strong interpersonal relationship building and listening skills
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Excellent written / verbal communication and professional maturity

- Remains current on latest market trends and any applicable legislations
- Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel; loan adjudication software

The Senior Manager provides financial advisory services to assist in planning and adapting to changes in the regulatory regime.
The Risks and Controls workgroup partners with the other areas of the company to ensure a strong environment for internal controls. It does this by establishing and developing the Risk and Controls framework and providing guidance to the businesses to execute against this framework.
The Senior Manager works with a wide network of internal and external contacts and leads a team of analysts.
Special requirements and working conditions include occasional overnight travel and work outside regular business hours to meet deadlines, as needed.
