**Your role and responsibilities**
The IBM Cloud Databases (ICD) team is responsible for developing, running, and operating the Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings that provide Database as a Services (DBaaS) in IBM Cloud.
ICD is seeking an expert in PostgreSQL that is knowledgeable in internal concepts, such as database clustering, replication, and performance. The expert will work within our site reliability engineering organization to debug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex database clustering, performance, and replication issues. The expert will also work with clients to understand application usage patterns and share their expertise in application design and data model/query/connection optimization to get the maximum reliability and performance from their database. The expert will also work with our development team to design and provide ongoing feedback as we build new capabilities for our service. The expert will contribute to runbooks and external documentation.
Programming skills are nice to have, but not required for this role. This is a good role for someone who might possess foundational programming skills and would like to hone those skills by contributing to the core service, tooling leveraged by our team to diagnose and respond to operational alerts, monitoring, metrics, and test cases.
Candidates should have a strong desire to work within a CICD environment and have a passion for embracing new cloud technologies. You need to be collaborative, able to handle responsibility, and love learning new techniques and tools. There is a requirement to be expert in the database technology and other cloud technologies such as Kubernetes.
We are a "You build it, You run it" culture. As a PostgreSQL expert, you will join our follow-the-sun rotation where you will be the primary responder for automated system alerts. You will follow runbooks to resolve such issues and use your troubleshooting and analytical skills to diagnose or troubleshoot platform or Data Service issues.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Working under the direction of the Sr. Technical Editor (Data Management), you are to research, analyze, markup and assemble build specific work research packages from multiple data sources such as Bills of Material (BOMs), engineering drawings, and vendor information. Perform manual update research and editing tasks as determined by the Sr. Tech Editor or Publications Coordinator when required.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Create manual section research packages by extracting data from all available sources such as engineering BOMs, product photos, supplier documents, engineering specs, engineering drawings, and use to identify changes or new info to existing bus parts data.
  • Effectively organize the assigned research information packages (both hard copy and electronic versions) in order of priority and project strategy so they can be completed and handed over to the illustration group within the deadlines given.
  • Complete all Team Center research work tasks as assigned by Technical Editors and following established work procedures.
  • Contact any engineering staff or Part Supplier to clarify and verify the accuracy of their data or to source new data if required. This is very important which requires proper communication and investigative skills in order to obtain the required information within the timeframe available for each project. Maintaining a good working relationship with each supplier.
  • Maintain proper records of part supplier (vendor) data requests and perform follow-up actions to ensure that data requested is correct and obtained when required.
  • Perform all research duties according to established procedures and guidelines and to proactively communicate with Technical Editors at any time when you are not certain.
  • Perform editing tasks as determined by the Sr. Tech Editor or Publications Coordinator when required to supplement any shortfalls of editing capacity. Those tasks can include; SRPM template cleaning, editing, statistic reports, mentoring staff and supplying alternative solutions.
  • Perform manual update recording and manual bulletin creation when required
  • Complete tasks within specified time schedule deadlines and perform quality control checks of all work before handing in.
  • Assign New Flyer part numbers to new OEM supplier parts.
  • Properly maintain and archive source documentation in both electronic and hard copy formats.
  • Collect and communicate to the Technical Editor all data inaccuracies identified during the project so they are promptly recorded into the update system.
  • Perform efficiently and effectively in a team environment.
  • Consult with Technical Editors for clarification and information.
  • Upgrade skills on new or updated software.

Requirements

  • Certification/diploma from recognized technical school as a Mechanical Technologist or equivalent workplace experience.
  • 3-5 years experience in interpreting Manufacturing BOMs and engineering drawings into service parts lists.
  • Heavy equipment/automotive parts manufacturing background.
  • Experience in sourcing vendor data.
  • Experience with Engineering Data Management systems such as TeamCenter.
  • Capable of working under tight deadlines.

  • Documentation: Own and update all labeling documentation, including defining new classes and clarifying labeling instructions to ensure data consistency.

+ Use data to build a fact-base to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of operations strategies and support opportunities with insightful analytics.
+ Interpret data using careful business-grounded logic to identify and analyze trends to derive meaningful and actionable insights that tie directly to our business objectives.
+ Champion the use of new tools and techniques to optimize data and analytics reporting capabilities.
+ Work independently with little to no supervision - proactively taking ownership of key analytical projects and provide support in the implementation of strategies.
**Deliver ad hoc reporting to support initiatives and analytics projects - 20%**
+ Support the creation of visualizations, reports, and dashboards to track strategic KPIs for key business stakeholders.
+ Accountability around business intelligence tool adoption within the business community and training business users to fully leverage these tools.
+ Ensure data captured and provides an effective measure of the overall success of the Global Operations team.
+ Align performance management, tracking and reporting with other key stakeholders including Finance, Risk Management, and Marketing teams.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ University degree in quantitative based field (e.g. Statistics, Science, Engineering, Computer Science).
+ 5+ years of experience with data analytics, data mining, or statistics.
+ Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Qlikview).
+ Ability to communicate effectively and provide deliverables in a remote environment.
+ Strong communication and presentation skills with the integrity and confidence to liaise with executives and senior management - articulating a clear view of concepts, ideas and objectives is key.
+ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to assimilate, synthesize, and present complex information in a concise value-added form.
+ Ability to evaluate the feasibility and practicality of ideas. Taking a balanced-risk approach to promote the growth of ideas.
+ Comfortable in high-pressure environments.
+ Proven team builder and strong collaborator with the ability to build strategic partnerships with internal clients and vendors; builds buy-in and engagement with key stakeholders.

+ Experience in analysis packages and programming languages such as SQL, R, Python and/or SAS would be nice to have.
