What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Leading the end-to-end project management of natural gas power generation facilities, from design and construction to operation.
  • Assisting procurement in specifying electrical equipment and coordinating with engineering teams, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Providing engineering recommendations and technical support for power generation and electrical engineering design, scope of work, and equipment procurement.
  • Assisting with cost allocation/estimation, budgeting, resource planning, scheduling, and overall project management.
  • Establishing technical standards for reviews, documentation, and designs.
  • During the construction process, verifying that all equipment matches requirements and follows the design, ensuring all equipment and installations meet standards, and confirming all necessary tests have been completed and satisfy code requirements.
  • Providing technical support for new site development.
  • Performing power system modeling, analysis, and design.
  • Monitoring construction progress, quality control, and commissioning activities.
  • Managing project documentation, permits, and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resolving technical and logistical challenges to minimize delays and cost overruns.
  • Complying with local, state, and federal regulations to uphold the company's reputation.
  • Communicating engineering information across teams and departments to facilitate the successful completion of large-scale projects.
  • Troubleshooting to solve unforeseen problems.
  • Providing regular updates to senior management and investors on project status.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


How You Will Stand Out

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field); a Master's degree or PMP certification is a plus.
  • 810 years of project management experience in power generation, preferably in natural gas plants.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale EPC projects (valued at $50M+).
  • Strong knowledge of gas turbines (e.g., GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Bergen) and related systems.
  • Familiarity with FIDIC contracts, NEC, or other international contracting standards.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, and power system modeling software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams and other design professionals.
  • Sensitivity to time, costs, and deadlines.
  • Capacity to analyze problems from multiple perspectives and explore creative solutions.

**LOCATION**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, industry codes and standards to projects
Perform high complexity engineering designs including analysis, calculations, research, and equipment selection
Develop mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for power plant systems including steam cycles, boiler feed, condensate, water treatment, flue gas, hydrogen, fuel handling, heat transfer systems, and utility systems
Prepare sizing calculations and specifications for major equipment including, but not limited to, boilers, condensers, cooling towers, tanks, blowers and pumps

Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements and company standards

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**At least 8 years’ experience in mechanical engineering and design performing functions as outlined above is required, preferablly in the power industry, electrical utilities, chemical or gas industrial markets.**
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar degree program) from an ABET accredited four-year college or university program is required.
Has current P.Eng for Alberta or in process of completing licensing process or willing to pursue P.Eng within a year

Power generation is the largest and most critical component in data center design. With power requirements ranging from 300MW to 2,000MW, we are seeking Electrical Engineers with experience in the design of high-voltage power generation systems utilizing turbine generators in conjunction with grid connections as well as power distribution to support data center loads.

The Senior Power Generation and Distribution Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and procurement of electrical equipment for various projects. This role also ensures that all electrical specifications, codes, standards, and QA/QC procedures are properly followed and enforced.

In addition, the Senior Electrical Engineer will provide technical support and leadership to the electrical team throughout the design, construction, commissioning, and start-up phases of the projects.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all activities within the electrical engineering discipline for the project.
  • Perform detailed design, sizing, and calculations, and verify/check designs completed by others.
  • Ensure effective coordination with other disciplines across all project phases.
  • Review, check, and approve all engineering deliverables produced by the discipline team.
  • Prepare key electrical documentation including single line diagrams, wiring schematics, datasheets, vendor squad checks, procurement documentation, and reports related to electrical system studies (e.g., short circuit calculations, time-current coordination, load flow, motor starting, and harmonic analysis using SKM and ETAP software).
  • Contribute electrical input to the Design Basis Memorandum (DBM), Project Execution Plan (PEP), and detailed scopes of work.
  • Lead the development of electrical designs for projects and proposals.
  • Establish detailed engineering design criteria.
  • Analyze vendor and subcontractor designs for compliance and technical accuracy.
  • Review the work of others to ensure design integrity and consistency throughout the project.
  • Take a lead role in the preparation of electrical Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and man-hour estimates.
  • Prepare engineering man-hour estimates and contribute to overall project scheduling.
  • Prepare and review electrical single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Develop and evaluate electrical equipment and construction specifications.
  • Provide engineering support for procurement activities, including MRQ/MRP development, technical bid evaluations, and vendor drawing reviews.
  • Support the development of Construction Work Packages (CWPs), including project descriptions, construction specifications, IFC drawings, and material lists.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including field engineering, inspections, and specialized studies.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in high, medium, and low voltage power generation (using single or combined-cycle turbine generators) and distribution design.
  • Strong knowledge of protective relaying, generator control systems, and electrical equipment sizing and specifications.
  • Experienced in electrical safety regulations and code compliance requirements.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with other engineering disciplines.

Education and Qualifications: 

  • P. Eng. and Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree preferred.

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in building mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and HVAC load calculation tools.
  • Strong understanding of applicable building and energy codes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
  • Must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (Department of National Defence).
  • LEED accreditation (Green Associate or AP) is an asset.
