Job Description

Position Purpose:

Veolia (formerly SourceOne Inc.) is seeking a Senior Commissioning Project Manager to join its Mission Critical department. The selected candidate will represent the company in managing multimillion-dollar, time-sensitive projects for Mission Critical clients. This role involves leading teams of employees, subcontractors, and client vendors to execute critical systems infrastructure projects, including Data Centers, Financial Institutions, and Power Plants across North America.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Senior Commissioning Project Manager within a team of qualified professionals and degreed engineers.
  • Manage subcontractors and client vendors on a project-by-project basis.
  • Assign project tasks and schedules.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert for complex mission-critical projects.
  • Develop procedures, methods, and testing scripts for power, hydraulic, and cooling systems for Data Centers, Financial Institutions, and Power Plants.
  • Participate in complex and high risk system tests across mission critical projects, contributing to proper planning and risk mitigation.
  • Provide technical assessments and recommendations for improvement for major project reports.
  • Develop best practices and lessons learned databases for implementation of commissioning processes and field testing procedures.
  • Manage other technical resources and direct their participation on Veolia/ Veolia projects in the US and Canada.
  • Develop training resources for field commissioning teams, create and populate training databases, and ensure new and existing employees have exposure to training modules.
  • Lead client meetings, schedules, and issue resolution processes.
  • Prepare proposals for client RFPs and project pricing requests.
  • Assist with departmental budgets, KPIs, and financial planning for the Canadian region.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of documentation from contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Oversee and validate the work of subcontractors on client projects.

Work Environment:

  • Extensive local, national, and occasional international travel required (40–70% annually). Typical travel days are Mondays and Fridays, with on-site work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Veolia provides employees the opportunity to return home on Fridays to spend weekend with their families, unless specific work requirements necessitate otherwise.
  • Occasional work outside normal business hours to accommodate maintenance windows or weekend schedules.
  • Work environments include high-energy areas such as central plants, switchgear rooms, and power transmission areas in Mission Critical facilities.
Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the Mechanical/Thermal industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but an Associate degree from relevant technical programs will be considered.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience are acceptable.
  • 5–10 years of experience in commissioning complex installations and solving construction/operational problems.
  • Proven experience managing design, energy services, and commissioning projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Familiarity with NETA, ASHRAE, LEED, and other building codes and industry standards.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of Mission Critical systems related to MEP equipment in Data Centers and Power Plants.
  • Mechanical: Proficiency in mechanical/thermal systems, such as HVAC equipment, chiller plants, evaporative cooling, CRAHs, CRACs, VFDs and pumping systems.
  • Knowledge of plant control systems (BMS, SCADA, PLCs) and communication protocols (TCP/IP, Modbus, Canbus).
  • Familiarity with instrumentation for PID control loops.
  • Self-motivated with experience in MEP systems design, commissioning, retrocommissioning, and energy modeling for complex buildings.
  • Ability to perform construction observations, develop functional test plans, and execute tests for electrical and control systems.
  • Strong people and negotiation skills, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Fiscal awareness and ability to mentor direct reports.
  • If needed, be able to interview and participate in the selection of candidates to fill direct report positions.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • P.Eng licensed in the U.S. or Canada (EIT or equivalent professional engineering membership accepted); preferred but not essential.
  • C.E.T. or equivalent with extensive commissioning experience.
  • LEED Associate and PMP certification preferred but not mandatory.
  • Canadian CSA Z462 Electrical Safety qualification or U.S. NFPA 70E equivalent.
  • Infrared Thermography certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities :

  • Manage and execute personal project portfolio of assigned Building Automation Projects

Experience / Qualifications

  • College Diploma in Electromechanical Engineering Technology or similar
  • Minimum of 5 years of Building Automation systems integration, field commissioning and project management on new construction and/ or retrofit projects for commercial, institutional, condos or multi-res buildings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC control systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Software (including Visio, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to working multiple BAS Commissioning projects simultaneously
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with clients and contractors
  • Ability to multi-task between Field work and other duties and responsibilities

  • System Assembly; Commission plan preparation ; Follow company QC process and procedures
  • Help lead and manage any external resources; Schedule and direct periodic commissioning meetings; Attend construction and coordination meetings if required for the project ;
  • Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and owners agents as needed; Execute project assignments; Interface with project contractors, vendors, and testing technicians; Interact with all facets of the company: engineering, design, etc.
  • Verify results of test reports; Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment as needed; Field experience in the operation and application of Power Quality Analyzers, Power Disturbance Analyzers, Data loggers, and related system testing equipment

Qualifications:

  • 4-10+ years experience with Electrical Power Systems
  • Data Centre / Mission Critical experience a must
  • Bachelor's / Associates Degree as an Electrical Engineer a plus
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus (Navy nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, etc.)
  • Previous experience working with the Customer a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience working with various computer systems and applications
  • Experience commissioning enterprise data centres, colos, and hyperscale companies
  • Willingness to travel
  • A/E experience working in complex facilities or mission critical projects a big plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (this role requires heavy amount of writing, documentation, and client interaction)
  • Electrical equipment testing experience in a Critical Facilities / facility environment
  • Previous experience conducting Level 1-5 Commissioning
  • Possess basic knowledge of systems design for various projects

Job Description

We are seeking skilled and motivated professionals of all experience levels to join our team as Data Center Mechanical Commissioning Engineers (CxEs). The Mechanical CxE will commission mechanical systems in data centers, ensuring they meet top performance and reliability standards. This role requires a deep understanding of mission-critical environments, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Activities will include but are not limited to testing and/or validation of chillers, water loops/components, cooling distribution equipment, air handling units (AHUs), air conditioning units, fan coil units (FCUs), pumps, heat exchangers, cooling towers, humidification systems and Building Management and Automation Systems (BMS).

Note, The Mechanical CxE should also have knowledge of the electrical components involved in the above mechanical systems, including electrical motors (for pumps, fans, and compressors), motor control centers (MCCs), automatic transfer switches (ATSs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), Control Panels, and electrical supply systems. This role involves supporting data center construction/commissioning activities, so working hours may include nights and/or weekends.

This is an onsite, client-facing role that may require approximately 90% or more travel to various client locations.

Education
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, equivalent professional experience or experience in a related field (including but not limited to mechanical field service technician, data center technician or military).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct commissioning activities for mechanical systems, their electrical components and BMS systems in data centers.
  • Create and implement detailed commissioning plans, procedures, and checklists for Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5 systems.
  • Review and evaluate design documents, submittals, and equipment specifications.
  • Conduct site inspections, functional performance tests, and system verifications.
  • Witness testing of all equipment during commissioning and validate sequence of operations.
  • Work closely with project teams, including contractors, engineers, and data center operators.

  • Diagnose and resolve system performance, reliability, and safety issues.
  • Document results/findings and generate comprehensive commissioning reports.
  • Provide support to data center staff on system operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Attend project meetings and offer technical expertise as needed to help accomplish team goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in commissioning, designing, or constructing mechanical systems, especially in data centers or mission-critical environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical supply systems, and control systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, adaptability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications.
  • Skilled in using commissioning software and tools, including MS Office Suite; Mid-Level and Experienced-Level candidates should also be proficient with Procore and CxAlloy.
  • Ability to travel to different data center locations as needed.

Experience Levels

  • Entry-Level: 0-1 years of experience in commissioning or a related field, with a focus on mission-critical facilities.
  • Mid-Level: 2-5 years of experience with demonstrated project management capabilities and a solid understanding of data center systems.
  • Experienced-Level: 6+ years of experience, with extensive knowledge of complex mission-critical systems and leadership experience.

Prerequisites for Employment

  • Successful background check, including pre-employment drug screening

Job Description

We are seeking skilled and motivated professionals of all experience levels to join our team as Data Center Electrical Commissioning Engineers (CxEs). The Electrical CxE will commission electrical systems in data centers, ensuring they meet top performance and reliability standards. This role requires a deep understanding of mission-critical environments, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Activities will include but are not limited to testing and/or validation of transformers, electrical switchgear, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, Static Transfer Switch (STS) units, Power Distribution Units (PDU), electrical distribution equipment, Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and Building Management and Automation Systems (BMS). This role involves supporting data center construction/commissioning activities, so working hours may include nights and/or weekends.

This is an onsite, client-facing role that may require approximately 90% or more travel to various client locations.

Role Overview:
