Responsibilities and goals associated with the position
Reporting to the Chief of operations – Public Works, the Supervisor – Public Works is responsible for overseeing the activities of her or his unit. The jobholder directs and supervises the work of the team under her or his responsibility. She or he plans the work to be carried out and oversees its execution; ensures adherence to quality criteria, standards and requirements; develops and manages performance indicators specific to her or his activity sector; distributes planned work to staff in accordance with the collective agreement, municipal by-laws and workplace health and safety standards; monitors attendance and punctuality; carries out performance appraisals of employees on her or his team and makes appropriate recommendations; insures training is provided to employees; helps prepare the work unit’s budget and ensures that expenditures are justified and comply with the approved budget.
The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows:
• Supervise the inspections of road infrastructures, sewer and aqueduct networks, parks, sports facilities and public spaces with his/her team members and contract resources to identify problems and priorities.
• Assess and suggest solutions.
• Supervise maintenance operations on public roads, landscaping, paths, parks, sports facilities, and green spaces.
• Consult, use and follow up on work requests.
• Use the Department’s management software to record required information.
• Participate in seasonal employee classification by category of equipment.
• Supervise snow removal operations carried out by internal and contractual resources.
• Comply with the terms of Bill 430 in all operations.
• Validate the compliance and quality of operations.
• Analyze operating conditions and apply the required health and safety procedures.
• Appraise the performance and occupational development needs of her or his employees.
• Participate as required to the employee training process.
• Manage the vehicles required for operations.
• Perform all other related tasks.
• Hold a technical college diploma, ideally with a specialization in civil engineering.
• Have an experience of three to five years or any other combination of education and experience found equivalent.
• Have a good knowledge of French and English sufficient to sustain a conversation, participate in a work meeting or give simple directions.
• Be tactful and courteous
• Capability to motivate and supervise a team
• Computer knowledge required to draft reports and written communications
• Valid Class 5 driving license

- Preparation of plan, profile and detail drawings for a variety of land development and municipal infrastructure projects including, but not limited to, site plans, subdivisions, road reconstructions, water/wastewater facilities.
- Field work including construction site inspection, detailed topographic site surveys, and construction layout
- Completing design calculations for storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermains and stormwater management facilities.
- Preliminary and detailed design of grading, drainage and servicing plans for land development and municipal infrastructure projects.
- Development of construction cost estimates, form of tenders, construction specifications and contract documents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education in a civil engineering technology program or equivalent experience.
- Aptitude to work with the following software packages: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical, time management and organizational skills.
- Possess strong oral, written communication skills.
- Physical and environmental requirements for this position are available upon request.
Considered Assets:
- Knowledge of stormwater management practices and low impact development strategies.
- Knowledge of the Revit software package.
- Past construction experience will be considered an asset.

Position Overview:
As a result of our growth and expansion, an immediate opportunity currently exists in our Ottawa branch. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, self-motivated professional with experience in land development and/or municipal engineering related design projects.
Ideal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and develop designs for civil works, including engineering drawings for site plan applications, plan and profiles, report figures, etc.
- Experience in land development, commercial and institutional practice areas, and or
- Experience in Municipal projects such as roadway reconstructions, intersection improvements, and infrastructure renewal projects.
- Lead and assist in the development of designs specific to site grading and site servicing; sewers, watermains, roads, stormwater management and sedimentation and erosion control
- Experience and knowledge including an understanding of municipal, regional and provincial design guidelines and drawing requirements.
- Ensure a complete understanding of project requirements and client expectations to aid in the successful completion of the work
- Contract specification document preparation including engineering reports and cost estimates
- Conduct Site Visits and Inspections and prepare follow-up Reports
- Assist with Contract Administration.
- Plan, organize and prioritize the project tasks under your responsibility in conjunction with others to maximize productivity and to effectively meet established guidelines
- Initiate and follow-up circulation to various agencies and work with appropriate authorities to establish relationships to gain speedy approval acquisition
- Mentor junior staff and assist senior staff with a wide variety of assignments
Skills and Abilities:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in design for public and/or private clients
- Canadian College diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field
- High level of expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required
- Experience with stormwater and water modeling software
- A strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Good working knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Teams and Outlook
- Valid Driver’s License
- Demonstrated ability to perform individually or as a member of project teams

The Civil Engineering Technologist supports the design and coordination of land and site development projects within our industrial portfolio.
