Job Overview:
As a Senior QA Tester at Smoking Gun Interactive (SGI) you must have prior QA experience in video games. You boast a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a passion for games. The QA test team is embedded within our development team so you naturally work well with others, are a stellar communicator, and understand the functions of the different disciplines on a game team.
This is a full-time position based on-site in our Downtown Vancouver office. We are unable to offer remote or hybrid working for this role. Candidates must also be local to the BC area and be eligible to work in Canada.
Requirements
In this role, you will:
- Be responsible for testing game content for bugs and other flaws;
- Verify proper implementation of features against design specifications;
- Work with the QA Test Lead to maintain a reporting system that tracks and verifies fixes throughout the test cycle;
- Design, write, and execute test cases during all phases of product development;
- Provide written and verbal reports on the state of bugs, features, performance, and playability;
- Escalate risks and blocking issues as soon as they are uncovered;
- Help to run build verification checklists against a range of devices and mobile platforms;
- Be the voice of the consumer.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- 3+ years of experience of QA testing in the game industry;
- Experience testing for PC (Windows) and Mobile games;
- Strong experience with documentation and process in writing test plans;
- Experience in one or more defect tracking and/or test management tool;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
It would also be helpful if you had:
- Experience with Jira.

What you'll do:
- Work directly with our Development Tester to understand how features are meant to behave, what needs testing, and where to focus.
- Perform manual testing by running test plans and test runs to check features and find issues on VR, desktop, and web platforms.
- Identify, reproduce, document, and track bugs clearly using tools like Jira and Confluence.
- Maintain and update test checklists or test cases as directed.
- Verify fixes and assist in re-testing issues across different build versions.
- Communicate test results and surface issues clearly, reliably, and in a timely manner.
- Help ensure consistent test coverage for new features and major releases.
- Stay organized and thoroughespecially when testing under tight timelines or across multiple devices.
- Apply your gaming instincts to identify issues that might affect immersion, flow, or the overall user experience.
Who you are:
- Detail-driven and curioussomeone who enjoys breaking things (in a good way).
- Reliable and organized, with a clear communication style.
- Basic familiarity with tools like Trello, Jira, or Confluence for tracking bugs and tasks.
- Completed post-secondary education in Game Development, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous experience with/knowledge of playtesting is a plus.
- Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle is a plus.
- A background in gaming helps, especially for catching things that feel off.

About your next Challenge as a Test Engineer :
Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Test Engineer supports the Engineering Manager in working with the group of hardware design and product support specialists delivering (Return-To-Service) products on time and on budget. The high-level responsibilities include:
+ Develop and update second and third line repair capability for avionic products on CP140, F18 Displays and V3 Radar programs.
+ Automated and bench test procedures for avionics products.
+ EMI/EMC testing and analysis for aircraft and avionics products.
+ RF Avionic equipment test development
+ Military parts obsolescence research
In this role, she/he will follow an individual work plan, meet day-to-day short-term objectives, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
What will you do:
+ Technical leadership of the engineering support for the operational Repair and Overhaul production line (part of Operations) including support to the technical team on the floor.
+ Develop test procedures for Avionic equipment on ATE and standalone BTS for RF, Analog and Digital testing.
+ Provide avionics RF and EMI/EMC test support and analysis.
+ Resolve component obsolescence issues and produce Engineering change documentation.
+ Develop and update test programs for avionics on automated test equipment including design of Interface Test Adaptors.
+ Troubleshoot technical problems and complete technical investigations.
Required Skills and Experiences:
Graduate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from a recognized University or Technologist with required experience. Candidates with minimum of 2 to 3 years related experience in the following:
· Design and development of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for military and/or commercial avionics equipment testing to the component level
· Practical knowledge and experience developing RF test equipment/procedures for avionics.
· Development of Repair & Overhaul (R&O) test programs on ATE using one or more of the following programming languages and development environments: Python, NI LabVIEW, NI LabWindows/CVI, ATEASY
· Strong knowledge of with ability to evaluate and design general electronic circuits at the component level
· Working knowledge of RF technology, EMI/EMC test

**Your Impact**
+ Develop and Execute HIL Tests: Design, implement, and maintain HIL test setups to validate software and hardware interactions for autonomous agricultural machinery systems.
+ Software and Hardware Integration: Collaborate with software, hardware, and system teams to integrate and test embedded systems, ensuring seamless operation between components.
+ Test Automation: Develop automated test scripts and tools to streamline testing processes and enhance efficiency. Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze test results, identify issues, and produce detailed reports with actionable recommendations to improve system performance and reliability.
+ Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive test plans, procedures, and documentation to support development and compliance requirements.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with software engineers, hardware engineers, and system architects to ensure robust system design and functionality. Field Troubleshooting: Occasionally travel to field sites to diagnose and resolve issues on autonomous machinery, ensuring real-world performance aligns with HIL test outcomes.
**Your Experience and Qualifications**
+ Education: Bachelor's degree in Agricultural, Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering. Candidates with other educational backgrounds but relevant experience will be considered.
+ Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or MATLAB/Simulink for test script development.
+ Familiarity with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, ROS).
+ Knowledge of hardware testing tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers).
+ Experience with sensors, actuators, hydraulics, and low-voltage electrical systems.

Now, if you were to come on board as one of our Intermediate Test Engineer, we’d ask you to do the following for us:
- Collaborate with agile development teams to ensure quality is embedded early in the development lifecycle (shift-left mindset).
- Assist in the development and maintenance of test automation frameworks using industry-standard tools.
- Support the implementation of quality tooling and test practices for deployment pipelines, in partnership with other teams.
- Develop and maintain automated tests for web applications across browsers, and support accessibility testing efforts.
- Track and report quality metrics such as test coverage and defects in coordination with the QE team.
- Participate in test case design, requirement validation, and exploratory testing activities.
- Contribute to incident postmortems and help drive improvements in test coverage and reliability.
- Manage source code and test repositories via GitHub and work within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline).
- Coordinate testing efforts during release planning and participate in QA-related discussions within agile teams.
- Continuously upskill in test automation, tools, and quality engineering best practices.

- 4-5 years of relevant experience in a similar role or function
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with JavaScript programming languages. Strong knowledge on Web services (RESTful /SOAP)/ UI testing, JavaScript, Typescript
- Knowledge of Page Object and BDD frameworks.
- Experience using either tools like Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.
- Able to effectively use traces & logs to triage incidents.
- Hands on experience with Test Management Tools, Jira preferred
- Basic experience with Mobile Application testing
- Good understanding of QA processes, including quality metrics, test case development and maintenance, requirements validation, and test reporting.
- Experience on incident management processes and participate in continuous improvement of post-incident practices.
