Job Description:

  • The Quality Specialist is responsible for developing and executing standardization of manufacturing quality enablers. The Quality Specialist expert must be a creative problem solver, proactive and steadfast in the identification and resolution vehicle quality.
  • The Quality Specialist will have experience in managing cross-functionally and possess a broad knowledge of the entire automotive engineering, manufacturing and quality landscape and present outstanding teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The candidate must be a high-energy, hands-on individual with strength of conviction - a self-confident leader who, in part due to his/her personal presence, style and demeanor, effectively sells ideas and solutions to others. Moreover, this person must have unquestioned integrity.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performing root cause analysis of quality issues, often using advanced problem-solving tools (Kepner-Tregoe, Shainin Red X, Design of Experiments, etc.) recommending and implement cost-effective permanent corrective actions.
  • Analyze quality data from internal and external indicators, manage engineering changes working with a cross-functional team to ensure timely execution.
  • Conduct product evaluation tests to ensure robustness of product or process change before full implementation and will be the point of contact for engineering quality and all product-related incidents.
  • Ensure delivery of third-party quality metrics, provide creative thinking to the analysis of data and the identification of new opportunities.
  • Plan, prioritize, set goals and manage multiple projects in a technical and business environment.
  • Support meetings at all levels of the company, including senior leadership.
  • Establish partnerships both internally and externally should be able to influence without direct authority.
  • Show commitment and dedication in delivering a premier product to the consumer, represent the Voice of the Customer to the platform teams and contribute or drive team success by clarifying expectation and minimizing political hurdles.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace/Aeronautical, Biomedical/Biomechanical/Bioengineering, Chemical, Civil or Materials from an ABET accredited university
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deal with a variety of people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to collect and synthesize data into meaningful information and communicate clearly to all levels of the organization
  • Self-directed, team oriented with demonstrated planning/problem-solving skills
  • Experience and working knowledge of computer systems and software required

Raytheon ELCAN is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Supplier Quality Specialist to help ensure our suppliers meet the highest standards in performance, compliance, and delivery. Working closely with Supply Chain, the Supplier Quality Specialist will be the interface between our supply base and internal stakeholders for critical and technically advanced programs. Responsibilities will include maintaining supplier relationships, monitoring performance and driving continuous improvements in the supply chain. You will play a key role in ensuring ELCAN products meet the highest quality standards and comply with industry requirements.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Participate in supplier evaluation and selection by conducting assessments and audits of potential suppliers.
+ Perform detailed assessments, audits and qualification processes for new and existing suppliers. Ensure suppliers meet quality, regulatory and performance standards, including compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, and other aerospace certifications as required.
+ Build and maintain supplier relationships along with Supply Chain.
+ Collaborate with suppliers to ensure flow down of product requirements both internally and to sub-tier suppliers through requirements, quality notes and statements of work.
+ Interpret these requirements to ensure supply base both understands and complies with these quality requirements.
+ Establish and implement supplier performance metrics including inspection plans, testing and validation of components.
+ Monitor trends in supplier performance and initiate projects to improve quality, cost and delivery.
+ Drive supplier continuous improvement initiatives utilizing lean tools such as RTX Core.
+ Work closely with internal teams such as Engineering, Operations, Mission Assurance and Supply chain to meet or exceed product quality through the entire supply chain.
+ Identify and lead root cause corrective action (RCCA) and failure reporting, analysis and corrective action system (FRACAS) activities related to supplier quality issues to prevent recurrence of defects and quality issues.
+ Maintain accurate records of supplier performance, audits and compliance documentation.
+ Conduct regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with quality management systems (QMS). Track and report on audit findings and work with suppliers to close gaps.
**Qualifications we are looking for:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or related technical discipline preferred.
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality management, quality assurance, or related fields, with a proven track record of leading quality initiatives in a manufacturing or operational environment.
+ Experience with Quality systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO13485, or equivalent.
+ Strong statistical and analytical skills and a data-driven mindset, capable of interpreting complex data sets and making informed decisions.

**Position Overview:**
The Supplier Quality Specialist (SQS) performs a critical role in developing new and existing suppliers, assessing supplier quality performance and ensuring that products are received free of defects. The SQS is the liaison between our supply chain management team, quality team, and suppliers to investigate, analyze and resolve supplier quality related issues by conducting audits, analyzing trend defects and leading continuous improvement initiatives. The SQS will assess the supplier's capability to meet contractual needs, will measure their performance during the contracting period, and will work with suppliers to identify challenges whilst looking to improve the working relationship. The SQS will also ensure the right levels of contact to ensure that the relationship remains on track for both parties, in order to get the best result for BWXT.

**Your Day to Day:**
+ Evaluate and communicate on a regular basis the quality performance of key suppliers.
+ Generation of supplier scorecards.
+ Collaborate with cross functional teams to determine any trends and identify opportunity for improvement.

+ Work with purchasing team to quickly resolve vendor issues.

**Required Qualifications:**
+ University or college level education in quality assurance, engineering, or technology.
+ Certified quality technician (CQT) or quality engineer (CQE) via the American Society of Quality is preferred.

+ A minimum 5 years of experience managing supplier quality relationships.
+ Previous experience building positive relationships with suppliers is preferred.

**Technical Skills/Competence**
+ Strong statistical analysis skills and ability to analyze supplier metrics.
+ Ability to interpret and comprehend drawings and technical documents.
+ Formal training and ability to decipher geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) as per ASME Y14.5.
+ Ability to interpret and comprehend quality documentation including reports pertaining to non-destructive testing (NDT), dimensional inspection, coordinate measuring machine (CMM) reports, material test reports (MTR), certificates of conformance (C of C) etc.
+ Lead formal (8-D or 5 why) root cause investigations.
+ Basic knowledge of dimensional and weld inspection techniques.
+ Proficient in MS Office applications.
+ Highly motivated and driven individual.
+ Excellent communication skills including verbal, listening and written.
+ Ability to travel approximately 35% of the time, primarily within Ontario.

  • Responsible for escalating information and data on processes or parts not meeting established quality requirements to the customer quality specialist, quality supervisor, and/or quality manager per Dortec Quality Protocol
  • Participate in and conduct Layered Process Audits (LPAs) as per the scheduled release and follow up on any action items found during the audit.
  • Audit daily to ensure that operators and TL are performing quality inspections as per Quality Alert instructions.
  • If required, support training new personnel in quality control inspection and investigation techniques, including third-party inspectors.
  • Identify and be able to react to any anomalies in control characteristics (LV).
  • Audit/address in real time high scrap/NVA inspection/review and audit third party inspection
  • Participate in a VAVE cost-saving activity.
  • Audit - customer attachment points and B/S effectiveness.
  • Audit - IP, Hourly Charts, B/S, Lot Sheets, and Labeling: All meet quality requirements.

Qualifications and Skills
