Job DescriptionThe Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who is accountable and responsible for providing quality patient focused nursing care to patients in the Coronary Care Unit. As part of the inter-professional health care team, the RN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act.
Accountabilities:
- Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
- Compliance with policies and procedures associated with observations
- Professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being, associated with creating a therapeutic relationship and environment
- Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
- Practicing according to the infection control and prevention measures
- Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using transfer of accountability principles
- Providing health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions to ensure the continuity of care in the community
- Acute care experience within the last five years, with a minimum of two years in an acute cardiac or critical care environment required
- ACLS required
- Coronary Care I, II and III required, or successful completion of Critical Care certificate or willingness to obtain CC3 within 1 year of hire
- Must pass an arrhythmia quiz obtaining an 80% to move on to the interview phase
- Critical Care certificate preferred

SALARY:
Minimum: $39.07 per hour
Maximum: $56.00 per hour

Located in Gunn, Alberta, Lakeview Recovery Community supports men living with addiction on their journey to a sustainable recovery. We deliver a full continuum of addiction recovery support in a community environment, focusing on healing and personal growth. Our goal is that individuals leave Lakeview with the life skills, tools, and resources to maintain long-term wellness and sustain recovery and having nurtured healthy relationships with friends and family.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an integral clinical provider within our therapeutic recovery community, delivering person-centered, trauma informed care to individuals in long term addiction recovery. Operating within their full scope of practice, the NP conducts medical assessments, provides diagnoses, initiates treatment, prescribes medications when appropriate, and contributes to the collaborative treatment planning. The NP supports the physical and mental health stabilization of clients through direct care, helping to reduce barriers to recovery and promote improved health outcomes as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Role-Specific Accountabilities
- Conduct comprehensive medical assessments for individuals participating in long-term addiction recovery, identifying and addressing physical and mental health needs within a trauma-informed care framework.
- Provide medical consultations, establish diagnoses, and prescribe medications when clinically appropriate, in accordance with CARNA Nurse Practitioner standards and full scope of practice.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and interdisciplinary team to support individualized treatment planning that promotes stabilization, recovery, and improved health outcomes.
- Contribute to withdrawal management planning and monitoring by identifying symptoms of substance withdrawal or post-acute withdrawal syndrome and recommending appropriate interventions.
- Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, prescriptions, and communication relevant to patient care.
- Participate in care conferences or case discussions as requested, providing medical insight to support the clients recovery journey.
- Communicate relevant medical information with appropriate team members to support coordinated, person-centered care.
- Practice in accordance with all regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and internal organizational policies.
Qualifications
- A masters degree in nursing with a focus on Advanced Clinical Practice including recognized certifications from advanced training for NPs in Substance Use Disorder treatment(s).
- Must have current non restricted registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) in the NP adult or family stream.
- Hold active registration with TPP Alberta for prescribing controlled substances.
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience as a Registered Nurse in clinical practice.
- Current experience as an NP in an acute care setting, preferably Critical Care and Addictions and Mental Health Sectors.
- Current basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification and ACLS.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to efficiently work in a team and face to face with clients.

Reporting to the Medical Manager, the LPN is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to individuals undergoing addiction treatment. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the LPN will contribute to the overall well-being and recovery of our clients by administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and providing compassionate support.
Role-specific Accountabilities
- Administer medications as prescribed by healthcare providers and ensure accurate documentation of medication administration.
- Monitor clients' vital signs and report any significant changes or concerns to the Registered Nurse or Medical Director.
- Assist with the admission process by conducting nursing assessments and obtaining relevant medical history from clients.
- Provide ongoing support and education to clients regarding their treatment plans, medications, and recovery goals.
- Collaborate with other members of the treatment team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for clients by enforcing facility policies and procedures and responding to emergencies promptly.
- Document all nursing interventions, observations, and progress notes accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to clients throughout their recovery journey, fostering a sense of hope and empowerment.
- Participate in medically supported detox/withdrawal specific to resident needs and site policy.
- Administer assessments including but not limited to CIWA/COWS/PAWS and suicidal ideation and develop any care plans or revisions and safety plans. Will communicate all pertinent medical findings to medical director.
- Administer detox/withdrawal medications as required by residents and in alignment with order sets or resident specific orders created by LRC medical provider.
- Approach detox/withdrawal in collaboration with the teams across site including clinical, kitchen, support staff and leadership.
- Assist with medically related administrative organization required by the department.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited LPN program and current license with the College for Alberta's Licensed Practical Nurses (CLPNA) as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Previous experience working in addiction treatment or behavioral health settings is preferred but not required.
- Compassionate and nonjudgmental approach to caring for individuals with substance abuse disorders.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with compassion and confidentiality.
- CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Successfully complete and pass a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check prior to initiating employment.
