As a Legal Assistant at Travelers you will perform a variety of legal assistant and administrative duties for assigned lawyers, many of which are unique to a legal environment and require a working knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, and processes.
Assist with general office support efforts as requested and assigned.

**What Will You Do?**
Prepare various legal documentation including but not limited to pleadings, discovery, mediations, motions, etc, in an accurate and timely manner.
Draft correspondance and review incoming mail to determine urgency and work with lawyers accordingly.
Provide necessary telephone assistance including, but not limited to, answering callers'' routine questions.
Maintain lawyers calendars as well as maintain diary and tickler dates appropriately.
Input and maintain information into proprietary case management system and ensure data integrity.
Maintain, organize, and index all case files for staff lawyers; file correspondence, pleadings and other documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Schedule/coordinate Examinations for Discovery, medical examinations, and other court designated hearings.
Retain court reporters and interpreters, if necessary.
Act as a liaison between insured, claim professional, and Staff Counsel office by furnishing and requesting information as needed and assist in completion of necessary reports.
Assist with trial/hearing preparation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
**What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?**
College diploma or certificate program.
Experience in insurance defense litigation.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with court personnel, other lawyers and their staff, clients, witnesses and outside vendors.
Highly proficient in MS Word, MS Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint.
Highly proficient with the usage of a case management system and other software applications.
Strong knowledge of trial procedures.
Strong understanding of legal terminology, local court/jurisdiction rules and adhere to law office procedures.
Maintain strict confidentiality of office files and records.
Ability to manage time and multitask effectively and display problem solving skills by developing methods or approaches to getting the work done.
Ability to adapt the new situations and changing priorities.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
**What is a Must Have?**
High School Diploma or its equivalent.

Now, if you were to come on as our **Legal Licensing Clerk** board as our we’d ask you to do the following for us:
**License and Permit Management** *(Business, Tobacco, Lottery, Radio, Elevator, Liquor Licenses and Health Permits)*:
- Coordinate, prepare and manage license and permit applications, renewals, amendments and cancellations in a timely manner.
- Proactively track license and permit expiration dates and initiate renewal processes to prevent any lapses in licenses and permits.
- Serve as a point of contact with municipal and provincial licensing boards and other regulatory agencies to follow up on applications and resolve any issues or delays.
- Maintain highly accurate and up-to-date licensing records within our internal databases and tracking systems.
- Communicate licensing statuses, updates, or potential issues effectively to internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and provide regular status reports (monthly) on licensing activities and progress.
- Ensure all licensing activities adhere strictly to municipal, provincial, and organizational compliance requirements.
- Document and report on resolved issues, outlining the steps taken for resolution.

- Proficiency in using databases and tracking systems for record management.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- Understanding of foodservice licensing processes and regulatory requirements is highly desirable.
***Required Qualifications:***
- Two to five years of related work experience.
- A good understanding of legal department processes and systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to ask probing questions to ensure clarity of request and the ability to communicate with all levels of Associates within Compass and external licensing officials; both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent attention to detail and consistently high level of accuracy and numeracy.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office; Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and Adobe Reader and Writer.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
