Qulliq Energy Corporation
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory's communities.
Manager, Alternative & Renewable Energy (QEC-25-008)
Iqaluit, Nunavut
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Manager, Alternative & Renewable Energy (ARE) is responsible for the research, planning, and managing ARE initiatives and programs. The position supports the execution of ARE projects by providing engineering support in areas such as planning, design, technical analysis, and conducting research. The position also provides technical advice, support, and recommendations to stakeholders as required through designated renewable/alternative energy resources.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee ARE staff and coordinate with other jurisdictions / utilities for developing ARE plan and program for the Corporation to meet QEC/GN mandate for reducing dependency on fossil fuel.
- Manage NMP (Net Metering Program), CIPP (Commercial and Institutional Power Producer), and IPP (Independent Power Producer) program.
- Provide recommendations for higher management regarding ARE initiatives.
- Respond to requests for information from the media re: renewable energy initiatives, etc.
- Keep track of all projects and resources, as well as reporting internally and externally.
- Closely work with Finance and Operations to ensure program effectiveness and to improve efficiency and liaison with Federal and Territorial Government agencies.
- Oversee design and development of new and existing ARE initiatives including stamping designs.
- Prepare Requests for Tender (RFT) / Request for Proposal (RFP) for ARE projects and ensures effective projects execution.
- Any other ad hoc duties as required.
Required Qualifications Include:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical / mechanical engineering.
- Experience in ARE project management in Utility sector.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng), with immediate eligibility for registration with NAPEG.
- Seven years of ARE project management experience in a utility.
- Two years of experience in the supervision and development of staff.
Assets:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
- Experience in full scope project management, from inception to commissioning an asset.
- Knowledge of power system analysis software such as ETAP, HOMER, RETScreen are assets.
- Experience in a utility environment is an asset.
A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.
We offer a competitive starting salary range of $149,128.02 to $79,392.80 and a northern living allowance of 16,008.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. Accommodation is not guaranteed at this point. Will be allocated when available. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employee's Union.
Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.

Renewable Energy Electrician

The Renewable Energy Electrician will travel to job sites around the defined service area and help build and maintain solar, wind, battery storage and electric vehicle infrastructure. The technician must be competent and qualified to work on electrical and/or mechanical components of Renewable Energy assets.
What will do as a Renewable Energy Electrician at Spark Power?
- Follow all Health and Safety policies to maintain a zero-incident workplace
- Complete routine safety documentation before every job including tailgate meetings, electrical work permits, etc.
- Technical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance activities to maximize performance/production
- Energization/de-energization procedures
- Follow and implement LOTO plans and procedures
- Interpret schematics and blueprints
- Quality assurance checklists and inspections to document deficiencies and identify corrective actions needed
- Follow OEM specific maintenance requirements in addition to company standards and industry best practices i.e. NETA MTS, CSA Z463, etc.
- Daily digital reporting and documentation of all work performed
- Work in ateam-basedenvironment and independently whereas necessary
- Participation in on-call weekend services on a rotating schedule
- Identify and provide feedback to issues and ongoing development of projects
- Willing to workovertimeas needed
- Keep the sites looking clean and safe buildings, vegetation, fences, gates, roads, etc.
- Ensure spare parts inventory is organized and clean

Do you have the Spark? Here's what we're looking for:
- Minimum 2 years electrical experience is required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Post-secondary education with an electrical or mechanical base is an asset
- ABET/EAC certification will be considered an asset
- 309A Journeyman license an asset
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Valid Driver's License with suitable driving record
- Must be able to lift 34kg (75lb)
- Able to determine color codes
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
- Computer and digital literacy (proficiency with mobile apps and various software: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Report writing)
- Electrical and mechanical aptitude

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experiencedEstimator/Project Manager to support the development, design, and execution of renewable energy projects, primarily in the solar sector, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in geothermal energy. The successful candidate will play a critical role in cost estimation, budgeting, project planning, and overseeing the successful delivery of projects from start to finish. Key Responsibilities:
Estimation & Budgeting:
- Develop accurate and detailed project estimates for solar and geothermal installations, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
- Review and analyze project blueprints and technical specifications to ensure estimates align with project requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive cost breakdowns and support in the preparation of project bids and proposals.
- Identify and manage project risks to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery.
Project Management:
- Oversee and manage all phases of renewable energy projects, ensuring timely, on-budget, and within-scope execution.
- Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and clients to coordinate project timelines, deliverables, and milestones.
- Ensure that projects adhere to quality standards, industry regulations, and health & safety guidelines.
- Track and report on project progress, providing updates to stakeholders and addressing any issues or delays.
Site Visits & Coordination:
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress, assess risks, and troubleshoot issues on-site.
- Work closely with construction teams to ensure that installation processes align with the design and specifications.
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to manage materials procurement and logistics.
Team Collaboration & Client Communication:
- Act as the main point of contact for clients, contractors, and suppliers during the lifecycle of the project.
- Maintain strong communication with stakeholders, providing regular project updates and responding to inquiries or concerns.
- Lead project meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the solar energy industry, with a strong understanding of solar system design, installation, and project management.
- Experience with geothermal energy systems will be a strong asset.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Experience with Energy Modeling software
- Experience with Auto CAD or similar designing tools.
