About the role
As an Associate, you will play a central role in delivering high-impact work for our public sector and nonprofit clients. You will work as part of an inter-disciplinary team on projects that span evaluation, measurement, performance improvement, strategy, policy design, strategic program review, and service transformation. You’ll engage directly with clients, support evaluations, develop evidence-based insights, and contribute to practical solutions that inform decision-making and drive better outcomes.
You bring curiosity, strong analytical and reasoning skills and a familiarity with research methods. You are adaptable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines efficiently. Key responsibilities
- Work with clients to understand their challenges, define problems, identify goals and create evaluation frameworks and work plans
- Support primary data collection and analysis (e.g., programming and fielding surveys, cleaning and analyzing survey data, supporting interviews or focus groups, conducting thematic analysis of qualitative data, etc.)
- Facilitate client and stakeholder workshops, focus groups and interviews
- Contribute to project coordination and logistics including organizing meetings, taking minutes, updating workplans and tracking budgets
- Work collaboratively to interpret findings from multiple lines of inquiry and translate them into actionable insights, options and recommendations for our clients
- Draft high-quality client deliverables including briefing notes, presentation decks, reports, and knowledge mobilization materials
- Contribute to secondary research including literature reviews and jurisdictional scans
- Contribute to business development activities including project proposals and pitches

What we’re looking for
Minimum requirements
- Master’s degree in the Social Sciences (e.g., Economics, Urban Planning, Psychology, Public Health, Political Science), Public Policy, Global Affairs or Public Administration
- 2-5 years experience working in a public sector consulting and/or evaluation and research
- Experience with a range of applied research techniques and evaluation methodologies
- Policy domain knowledge in at least one of the following areas: employment, income security, mental health, child and youth development, housing, community safety, and justice
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise client-facing materials
- High standards for accuracy, attention to detail and professional judgement
- A collaborative team player who brings curiosity, humility and an ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and agile work environment

WCS Canada is affiliated with global WCS programs in more than 60 countries, and we are active at the science-policy interface in Canada and internationally. This RFP is issued by WCS Canadas Ontario Northern Boreal program, active since 2004 in the far north. As one of the few organizations with a continuous scientific presence in the region, we lead field-based research on large mammals, freshwater fish, and peatlands; co-develop programs with First Nations; collaborate with academic, government, and Indigenous researchers; and contribute to policy development to guide conservation decisions. 2.0 Contracting opportunity WCS Canada producing a report summarizing multiple years of freshwater ecological data that has been collected on the water quality, water chemistry, fish contaminants, and benthic invertebrates in northern boreal rivers in Ontario. We are seeking proposals (RFP) from qualified individuals or groups to support the completion of this report. We are requesting that individuals or groups submit a proposal outlining their qualifications, relevant experience, and proposed approach to conducting a literature review and statistical analyses of previously collected data. This work will inform and support the creation of a comprehensive and useful summary report by WCS Canada that outlines the status and trends in these northern boreal rivers. 3.0 Proposal Administration All requests for clarification and questions concerning this RFP must be submitted in writing no later than 5 September 2025 via email to Brianna Kim, Finance and Administrative Manager (indicate Freshwater Literature Review and Data Analysis on the subject line). Responses, if determined appropriate by WCS Canada, will be issued in writing to all known proposers. WCS Canada may reject any and all proposals if, in its sole opinion, no proposal satisfies its criteria. Payment Contractor will submit invoices for its work, in a form acceptable to WCS Canada, to its contact for review, who will submit the invoices for payment. Payment is subject to acceptance of the services. Contractor will be paid without deductions for income taxes or other sums which employers in Canada are required to deduct from employees wages. Even though income tax and other deductions are not made by WCS Canada, Contractor should be aware that WCS Canada may be obligated by Canadian regulations to report to Canada Revenue Agency total annual amounts paid to Contractor. Relationship of the Parties Contractors relationship to WCS Canada under this Agreement is that of an independent contractor. Neither Contractor nor any of its employees, independent contractors or agents will receive the health insurance, sick leave, vacation, pension, retirement savings plan or other fringe benefits, or severance or termination pay, associated with regular employment at WCS Canada. 3. Termination Either party may terminate this Agreement without cause by furnishing at least 30 days written notice to the other. In such event, Contractor will be paid only for services actually rendered to the date of termination. With reasonable cause, either party may terminate this Agreement immediately upon written notice to the other. Contractor shall not incur any additional expenses between the date of notice of termination and the date of termination without the prior written consent of WCS Canada. 4. Confidentiality Contractor warrants that it will maintain in strict confidence WCS Canadas Confidential Information (as defined below) to which it has access during the term of this Agreement. We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Analyst to join our Research team. This position will be in a hybrid work arrangement from either our Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa office.
What will you do?
Reporting to the Director of Research, you will support CFIB’s advocacy by developing original research on key policy issues impacting small businesses, such as taxation, regulation, and labour. You will design surveys, analyze data, and present findings in a clear, compelling way to influence public policy. You will also collaborate with stakeholders and maintain key relationships to keep CFIB’s research relevant and impactful.
Responsibilities:
- Identify emerging issues that affect SMEs, including taxation, regulation, and labour policy, and contribute original, data-driven research ideas to support CFIB’s advocacy efforts.
- Develop and execute research and public policy analysis on the above key issues.
- Design and review surveys on topics related to CFIB’s research/legislative agenda.
- Provide data, calculations, and other analysis in response to current policy/economic issues as needed.
- Present research findings to various audiences as required.
- Develop contacts within government, the business community at large and policy research organizations to keep current with public policy issues.
What makes a successful Research Analyst?
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication in English, with French considered an asset.
- Experience in public policy or economics is a strong asset.
- Solid understanding of statistical and database analysis.
- Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, concise, and compelling content.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Comfort working under tight deadlines and integrating feedback.

The Opportunity

The ideal candidate for the Research Analyst (Finance) position must be motivated, forward-thinking, and educated to degree level. This individual will work in a fast-paced and creative environment, collaborating with the consulting team to provide services to clients across Canada.
This position takes place in-person in our downtown Edmonton office.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Analysis
- Utilize methodology and monitor data gathering processes (e.g. create surveys/interview questions, complete data entry, verify data quality).
- Accurately summarize and interpret both quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends, insights, themes, and recommendations.
- Synthesize and translate data into high-quality written reports, presentations, visuals, and strategic recommendations.
Project Planning and Delivery
- Liaise with clients regarding business opportunities when needed.
- Support new business development and proposal writing under tight deadlines.
- Collaborate with the consulting team to execute all project phases including project design, planning, communications, reporting, and monitoring activities.
- Build rapport with internal and external contacts, partners, and clients through transparent and genuine communication.
- Conduct interviews with project stakeholders, including but not limited to business owners, community leaders, and Indigenous rights holders.
- Support, if necessary, projects or streams of large projects involving engagement and community development.
- Maintain and update documentation such as meeting minutes, contact lists, engagement summaries, transcripts, and databases.
- Writing and designing project deliverables, including reports and presentations.
- Support engagement activities by taking an active role in facilitation, note-taking, etc.

Essential:
- A post-secondary degree or equivalent (Bachelor of Commerce is preferred).
- Strong writing skills acquired through academic and/or professional experience and demonstrated in a writing sample.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in Microsoft office suite.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and/or evenings and willingness to travel to rural and remote communities.
- Demonstrated understanding of consulting practice with the ability to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
Assets:
- Educated to masters level.
- Advanced knowledge in excel.
- Financial modelling expertise.
- Experience in a research-related role.
- Understanding of Indigenous Peoples, protocols, and history or willingness to pursue cultural awareness education to that end.
- Comfortable working with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and/or similar.
- Valid drivers license.

Full-time position (35 hrs/wk) with flexible hours within availability between the hours of 8:00AM – 4:30PM. Research to be conducted at UBC Department of Geography in Vancouver, B.C and reviewed in home office.
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):
· Research and Produce Aerial Reports and maintain quality, accuracy and efficient standards.
· Generate custom reports utilizing search criteria established by client.
· Work with Historical Products Team to ensure reports have both robust and accurate content.
· Establish routine communications with management to provide real-time updates on workflow.
· Proactively manage a docket of client orders to maintain consistent productivity and balance of turn-around time (TAT).

· Experience and knowledge of Windows OS and MS Office (Word, Excel). Proficient in technology like Bluetooth, WiFi, and other communication protocols.
· Computer skills are a must and GIS, Aerial or Project Management is a bonus.
· Prior work experience in a research setting.
· Ability to read maps.
· Strong ability to multitask.

· Experience with database management software, administration, or design is an asset.
