QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION


Minimum of bachelors degree in petroleum, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
Recently Graduated with +1 year MPD experience.
Has E.I.T. certification or ability to obtain E.I.T certification.
Shift work will be required, hybrid work from home and Opla's ROC office.
Willing to travel as required. Occasional travel to remote locations or outside of the country may be required.
Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and scripting.
Experience working with real-time drilling data, machine learning algorithms, and IoT applications.
Familiarity with drilling hydraulics, pressure control, and wellbore stability.
Hands-on experience with MPD software, surface control systems, and well control methodologies.
Good communication, interpersonal & leadership skills.
Willingness to learn and ability to work well within a collaborative team.
Must be able to work unsupervised in a fast-paced and highly energetic environment.
Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Highly motivated with the ability to prioritize workloads.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, however, other duties may apply)
Manage all aspects of project preparation, proposals, and programs for MPD wells.
Responsible for the preparation and delivery of technical presentations and reports on complex MPD topics and
projects.
Active role in assisting R&D team with development of proprietary software.
Active role in assisting sales groups with client meetings, presentations, and technical support.
Providing remote and on-site support to Opla personnel and clients.

Our Team

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • At least 2 years of engineering or science study at university, college, or technical school

  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience in the Oil & Gas industry (e.g. ILI, pipeline or piping integrity, NDE/NDT, well integrity, well logging) or industrial asset inspection services

For this role, we anticipate paying $85,000 - $110,000 CAD per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.

The Lead Research & Development Engineer drives end-to-end problem solving across algorithm development, hardware, firmware, and software systems. This role is focused on translating complex technical challenges into practical solutions through hands-on experimentation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and iterative design. The engineer leads the investigation, prototyping, and refinement of new technologies while promoting rigorous engineering standards, continuous integration, and automated testing to ensure scalable, high-performance solutions.

This role reports to the Director of Product Development and is a hybrid position in Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and optimization of signal processing, and quantitative imaging algorithms.
  • Drive system-level integration across hardware, firmware, and software to enable accurate and robust quantitative ultrasound measurements.
  • Design and oversee experimental validation studies using phantoms and in vivo data to assess performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with clinical, product, and QA/RA teams to translate research outcomes into deployable features and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Support root cause analysis and iterative refinement for imaging quality, real-time performance, and system stability.
  • Stay current with academic and industry advances in ultrasound physics, medical imaging, and signal processing.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with a focus on medical imaging or signal processing.
  • 7+ years of R&D experience in Physics, Electronics and/or Ultrasound.
  • Proficiency in C++ and/or Python; experience with MATLAB is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded systems and real-time firmware.
  • Strong knowledge of ultrasound physics, transducer technology, and system calibration techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering projects from concept through to deployment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485, IEC 62304, or other medical device development standards is an asset.

WCS Canada is affiliated with global WCS programs in more than 60 countries, and we are active at the science-policy interface in Canada and internationally. This RFP is issued by WCS Canadas Ontario Northern Boreal program, active since 2004 in the far north. As one of the few organizations with a continuous scientific presence in the region, we lead field-based research on large mammals, freshwater fish, and peatlands; co-develop programs with First Nations; collaborate with academic, government, and Indigenous researchers; and contribute to policy development to guide conservation decisions. 2.0 Contracting opportunity WCS Canada producing a report summarizing multiple years of freshwater ecological data that has been collected on the water quality, water chemistry, fish contaminants, and benthic invertebrates in northern boreal rivers in Ontario. We are seeking proposals (RFP) from qualified individuals or groups to support the completion of this report. We are requesting that individuals or groups submit a proposal outlining their qualifications, relevant experience, and proposed approach to conducting a literature review and statistical analyses of previously collected data. This work will inform and support the creation of a comprehensive and useful summary report by WCS Canada that outlines the status and trends in these northern boreal rivers. 3.0 Proposal Administration All requests for clarification and questions concerning this RFP must be submitted in writing no later than 5 September 2025 via email to Brianna Kim, Finance and Administrative Manager (indicate Freshwater Literature Review and Data Analysis on the subject line). Responses, if determined appropriate by WCS Canada, will be issued in writing to all known proposers. Relationship of the Parties Contractors relationship to WCS Canada under this Agreement is that of an independent contractor. Neither Contractor nor any of its employees, independent contractors or agents will receive the health insurance, sick leave, vacation, pension, retirement savings plan or other fringe benefits, or severance or termination pay, associated with regular employment at WCS Canada. 3. Termination Either party may terminate this Agreement without cause by furnishing at least 30 days written notice to the other. In such event, Contractor will be paid only for services actually rendered to the date of termination. With reasonable cause, either party may terminate this Agreement immediately upon written notice to the other. Contractor shall not incur any additional expenses between the date of notice of termination and the date of termination without the prior written consent of WCS Canada. 4. Confidentiality Contractor warrants that it will maintain in strict confidence WCS Canadas Confidential Information (as defined below) to which it has access during the term of this Agreement. Contractor will treat WCS Canadas Confidential Information with the same standard of care that it uses in maintaining its own Confidential Information, provided that that standard is not negligent. Contractor will use WCS Canadas Confidential Information only as is required by this Agreement, and will not reveal it to a third party without the prior written consent of WCS Canada, or unless it is required by law to reveal it. Confidential Information means information concerning each partys affairs, activities, research, proposals, projects, finances, property or method(s) of operation, trade secrets, know-how and similar information.   • Ensures that subject recruitment targets and project timelines are properly defined, communicated, recorded, and met at site level.
  • Ensures accurate and timely information flow with trial sites on Adverse Events and protocol/process deviations.
  • Supervises source data verification and follows up on data queries at site level in the country/region; reviews and manages study risks on a site level.
  • Ensures proper handling, use, accountability, reconciliation, and return of all Investigational Product(s) and clinical study supplies on a country/region level.
  • Reviews essential study documents and supervises reconciliation of study Investigator Site File (ISF) / TMF at site level and country/region level.
  • Ensures data integrity and compliance at a site level.
  • Supervises Site Management Associates in the flow of documents and laboratory supplies between the site and the Central/ Regional Lab/ Central Reviewer.
  • Conducts project-specific training of site Investigators.
  • Supports preparation of draft regulatory and ethics committee submission packages.
Qualifications

  • Relevant educational background, such as MD, MPharm, RN or College/University degree in Life Sciences or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ site monitoring experience with participation in global clinical projects as a Lead Monitor. 
  • Must have prior experience monitoring or managing sites and CRAs in the United States with knowledge of US regulatory guidelines and practices. 
  • Experience with all types of monitoring visits in Phases I-III. 
  • Strong experience in Oncology preferred.
  • Experience in CAR-T Therapy or other types of Cell Therapy, Gene Therapy, Radiation Therapy or Radiopharmaceuticals, or Nuclear Medicine is preferred. 
  • Strong experience in GI (Chron's, Ulcerative Colitis, IBS) preferred. 
  • Full working proficiency in English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to plan, multitask and work in a dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent Communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 65% (depending on project needs).
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable).

 Reporting to the Senior Manager, Capital Infrastructure, the Project Lead will work with developers, consultants, contractors, external agencies and internal departments to review, approve, and inspect both the design and construction of new municipal infrastructure, and ensure adherence with City of Lloydminster plans, standards, and other requirements. This position will provide technical support functions associated with the utilities component, (i.e., water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer/drainage) as well as the transportation/surface works component (i.e., roads, sidewalks, and traffic signals) of the Engineering Services team within the City of Lloydminster organization.  The division of duties, i.e., utilities vs. surface works, will depend on applicant’s core competencies and project team workload.

Duties
  • Prepares detailed designs, material and construction specifications, cost estimates, project schedules, Bid Documents, including technical specification review and updating, Contract Documents, bid evaluations, financial progress and variance reports, project payments and summaries for a variety of municipal engineering projects primarily related to municipal utilities, transportation/surface works, and municipal land development.
  • Administers all aspects of construction contracts on behalf of the City of Lloydminster and ensures compliance with contractual requirements and specifications, local, provincial and federal ordinances, and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Ensures that projects are completed within projected schedules and budgets and provides completion and final construction certificates on behalf of the City of Lloydminster.
    • Provide supervision, construction layout, and inspection services on Capital projects related to municipal infrastructure.
    • Prepares and administers progress payments, inspections, and approves extra work through Change Orders or Change Directives.
  • Performs surveys including preliminary topographical surveys, construction layout surveys, and as-built construction surveys as required using conventional survey equipment including GPS for municipal engineering projects.
  • Prepares detailed design drawings in an Issued for Review (IFR), Issued for Tender (IFT), or an Issued of Construction (IFC) state using the latest version of AutoCAD Civil 3D to support Capital programs.
  • Assists the Senior Manager with training and directing the activities of professional and technical staff engaged in design and project administration.
  • Provides recommendations in the development of standards and specifications for municipal infrastructure materials and construction methodology.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of short and long-term goals with respect to infrastructure throughout the City of Lloydminster.
  • Solicits engineering consulting services when required and prepares detailed project definitions, identifies terms of reference, and reviews proposals for consultant selections. Makes recommendations and administers engineering consultant agreements.
  • Supervises and monitors the activities and schedules of consulting engineering firms and or contractors who are completing work on behalf of the City of Lloydminster.
  • Provides professional design and construction management services to other branches and civic departments as required.
  • Reviews and provides recommendations for rezoning and subdivision applications. 
  • Negotiates and secures approvals from provincial and federal regulatory agencies to meet Project requirements.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with other agencies, the general public, consultants, contractors and other civic departments.
  • Assists the Senior Manager in the preparation of the annual Capital and Operating Budgets, and long-range budgets for the department.
  • Updates and maintains the City of Lloydminster Municipal Development Standards and Master Technical Specifications that relate to municipal infrastructure
  • Provides data to support the City of Lloydminster GIS asset management team.

Schedule:
 The position is predominantly office based and normal working hours for this position are Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Additional hours will be required on evenings and weekends as per project specific requirements. Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will possess certification as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.), a Professional Technologist – Engineering P. Tech.(Eng.), or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) or equivalent from a recognized institution. Candidates with a combination of experience and education related to municipal infrastructure will be considered.
    • The above requirements are ideal however at a minimum the candidate will be a graduate of a recognized two-year post-secondary Civil Engineering Program or related discipline.  The candidate must be a member of, or eligible for membership with, the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) or the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT). 
  • A minimum of two (2) years Project Management experience within the municipal infrastructure field will be deemed an asset.
  • Knowledge of municipal infrastructure design, construction, inspection and asset management.
  • Knowledge of municipal government functions and applicable legislation and codes, contract law with the ability to prepare, negotiate and administrate agreements will be deemed an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with municipal engineering design and construction.
  • Ability to make decisions, provide direction to both consultants and contractors, and problem solve engineering issues.
  • Will have demonstrated skills in Computer Aided Drafting, using AutoCAD Civil 3D, involving complex technical drawings and file management, civil construction details, and consultant drawing coordination.
  • Excellent communication skills, report writing, and public speaking.
  • Strong conflict management skills, negotiation skills, and inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent customer service for general public, internal departments, and other external agencies
  • Strong organization and analytical skills.
  • Must be capable of working with minimal supervision and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Valid Class 5 Vehicle Operators License in the province of Alberta or Saskatchewan, with a clean driver’s abstract, is required.  This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
