About the Role:
At Sonic Incytes, theproductdevelopment team plays an integral role in shaping our product and satisfying our customers needs.
This role focuses on developing and refining signal processing and image reconstruction algorithms tailored for accurate and reliable quantitative ultrasound measurements.
Reporting to the Director, Product Development, theLead Research and Development Engineerwill lead, and collaborate with, cross-functional agile teams to drive the design, development, and deployment of innovative features and advanced solutions that address complex user and product challenges. This role is instrumental in shaping the technical direction of Sonic Incytes' products through hands-on development, system architecture, strategic planning, testing, documentation, and launch.
The Lead Research & Development Engineer drives end-to-end problem solving across algorithm development, hardware, firmware, and software systems. This role is focused on translating complex technical challenges into practical solutions through hands-on experimentation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and iterative design. The engineer leads the investigation, prototyping, and refinement of new technologies while promoting rigorous engineering standards, continuous integration, and automated testing to ensure scalable, high-performance solutions.
This role reports to the Director of Product Development and is a hybrid position in Vancouver, BC.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and optimization of signal processing, and quantitative imaging algorithms.
- Drive system-level integration across hardware, firmware, and software to enable accurate and robust quantitative ultrasound measurements.
- Design and oversee experimental validation studies using phantoms and in vivo data to assess performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with clinical, product, and QA/RA teams to translate research outcomes into deployable features and meet regulatory requirements.
- Support root cause analysis and iterative refinement for imaging quality, real-time performance, and system stability.
- Stay current with academic and industry advances in ultrasound physics, medical imaging, and signal processing.
Qualifications and Experience
- Masters or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with a focus on medical imaging or signal processing.
- 7+ years of R&D experience in Physics, Electronics and/or Ultrasound.
- Proficiency in C++ and/or Python; experience with MATLAB is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with embedded systems and real-time firmware.
- Strong knowledge of ultrasound physics, transducer technology, and system calibration techniques.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering projects from concept through to deployment.
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, IEC 62304, or other medical device development standards is an asset.

Hiring Requirements:
The Manager, Research & Development - Bakery, is accountable for leading the R&D function within the bakery portfolio, with a focus on driving innovation, productivity, and technical excellence in alignment with the company’s strategic objectives. This role is instrumental in supporting business growth by developing and commercializing products that respond to evolving consumer needs, emerging processing technologies, and sustainability targets. Working in close partnership with cross-functional teams, including Commercial, Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain, the Manager ensures that technical solutions meet performance, cost, and customer requirements. The role demands a strong blend of technical expertise and commercial insight to successfully deliver consumer-preferred products in a fast-paced CPG environment. Additionally, the Manager will lead and develop a high-performing R&D team, cultivate a culture of innovation, and proactively advance strategic, consumer-centric initiatives that support long-term business success.
Key Responsibilities:
Product & Process Innovation
- Lead and manage the R&D pipeline for bakery innovation, renovation, process optimization and productivity initiatives
- Translate market trends and customer insights into minimum viable products and scalable bakery product concepts
- Guide the development of new formulations and production processes for bread, rolls, tortillas, bagels, english muffins, and other bakery items
- Oversee lab bakes, pilot plant trials, production scale-up, sensory testing, and shelf-life studies
- Collaborate closely with Global R&D and other R&D partners within Grupo Bimbo network to readily test and adopt new technologies, product concepts and best practices
Commercial Impact & Business Strategy
- Partner with Marketing, Operations, Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain to align R&D projects with commercial priorities and growth targets
- Integrate margin management and design to value into product development decisions
- Conduct make-or-buy evaluations and assess the financial viability of new technologies or ingredients
- Monitor competitor activity and emerging trends to inform product strategy and maintain category leadership
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of food scientists and technologists
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure product quality, compliance, and production feasibility
- Support customer presentations, co-manufacturing partnerships, and B2B collaboration when required
- Contribute to capital investment planning by advising on technical requirements for new equipment or production capabilities
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure all products meet food safety, regulatory, and labeling requirements (CFIA, FDA, etc.)
- Maintain accurate product documentation, formulation records, and ingredient specifications
- Develop and manage R&D bakery budget, including resource allocation and project prioritization
- Drive the adoption of new technologies in food processing, product development, commercialization and operating procedures
- Manage the safeguarding of intellectual property arising from innovation initiatives, working closely with legal teams to secure trade secret
- Champion a dynamic team culture that prizes creativity, agile innovation, fearless collaboration and relentless pursuit of executional excellence
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of progressive R&D experience, product development in the CPG, FMCG or food & beverage industry, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of successful product launches, food commercialization experience and innovation management.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (CFIA, FDA, etc.), food safety, and quality systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Creative, analytical, and results-oriented mindset.
- MBA or coursework in business/finance an asset.

As the Chemometrics Specialist, you will drive innovation in analytical chemistry through advanced data analysis and optical measurement techniques, contributing innovative solutions to spectroscopic challenges. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reporting to the Director of Data Science and Interdisciplinary Spectroscopy, the Chemometrics Specialist will collaborate with a diverse and talented team across various functions, including Software & UX, Product Management, AI, Electronics and Mechatronics, and our Rapid Experimentation and Analysis Lab.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Develop and implement chemometric models for spectroscopic data analysis and interpretation
- Design, build, and optimize optical measurement equipment and systems
- Perform advanced calibration procedures for spectrometers, lasers, and related instrumentation
- Apply multivariate statistical methods to extract meaningful information from complex spectral datasets
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate analytical requirements into technical solutions
- Validate and maintain analytical methods to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to optical systems and data analysis
- Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies in chemometrics and spectroscopy
- Independently manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision
WERE LOOKING FOR
- Master's degree or PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Analytical Chemistry, or related field with focus on spectroscopy or optical measurement
- Optical Equipment Expertise: Proven experience in building, modifying, and optimizing optical measurement systems
- Instrumentation Expertise: Deep knowledge of spectrometers, lasers, and associated optical components
- Calibration Expertise: Extensive experience with equipment calibration procedures and validation protocols
- Chemometrics Expertise: Basic background in chemometric techniques
- Proficiency in Python or another programming language commonly used in analytical chemistry
- Experience with spectroscopic techniques (NIR, Raman, FTIR, UV-Vis, etc.)
- Personal Qualities: Self-motivated, excellent communicator and independent problem-solver with strong curiosity and drive to explore new methodologies

- Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS): Experience with SERS techniques and applications
- Machine Learning Experience: Extensive experience applying machine learning algorithms to analytical data

- Experience with commercial chemometrics software packages
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals related to chemometrics or analytical chemistry
