  • Fluency in French, both oral and written. Bilingualism is an asset
  • Familiar with sterile work techniques

Summary

Reporting to the Group Leader, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing and pre-processing fresh samples, as well as supporting experiment preparation by managing solutions, consumables, and labels. The role also involves preparing solutions and contributing to the maintenance and upkeep of equipment, as well as receiving reagents and materials and handling inventory management.

Responsibilities

More specifically, you will participate in the following:

  • Perform sample preparation such as cell isolation from blood samples, cryopreservation, thawing, and counting;
  • Provide general support in experiment preparation such as plastic identification and label preparation;
  • Prepare solutions and reagent aliquots;
  • Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, and cleaning;
  • Replenish stock materials and perform inventory;
  • Perform file archiving.

Education

  • DEC in Laboratory Technology, preferably with a biotechnology specialization.

Main Requirements

  • 1 year experience in a laboratory, an asset;
  • Experience working in a biological safety cabinet under sterile conditions;
  • Experience with PBMC (isolation by Ficoll or CPT, cryopreservation, thawing, counting with hemocytometer), an asset;
  • Experience in a GLP/GCLP environment, an asset;
  • Organized and rigorous in the conduct of their work;
  • Good record keeping skills and attention to detail;
  • Dynamic and motivated.

Working Conditions

  • 100% onsite;
  • Rotating schedule of evening and weekend shifts: Monday to Friday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Note: A shift premium is applied;
  • Must accept to perform activities in a Biosafety Level (BSL) 1 or 2 laboratory where biological samples may be either naturally or experimentally infected with potentially hazardous viruses such as HIV, HCV, or CMV.

PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES

Performs, evaluates and reports all testing activities, both internal and external, for existing Galvion products as well as testing to support Galvions Research Development and Engineering projects. Additionally, this position is responsible to ensure that all calibration of ISO 17025 equipment and certificates thereof are maintained and recorded in accordance with Galvions QC policy for ISO 17025. This position will insure that the prioritization of the workload is followed, and testing timelines are met; results are properly verified, well documented and reported in appropriate format.


SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop strong knowledge of all standards and specifications which relate to Galvions products and provide recommendations for the most applicable in a given context.

Provide summary results to the Engineering team and evaluate test results for deviations or trends that may lead to failure in the future and escalate in the form of Corrective Actions as needed.

Maintain accurate documentation and records of all test results and insure proper paperwork is filed.

Provides direct hands-on support in executing DOEs (ballistic and non-ballistic) and processes validations with minimal supervision.

Perform duties per work instructions and training.

Provide recommendations for improving quality of processes and components.

Complete Non-Conforming Reports as required.

Ensure all necessary lab supplies and tools are stocked appropriately.

Ensure all lab equipment is appropriately maintained and calibrated.

Provide guidance and oversight to Engineering Laboratory Technician I and II, to ensure test methodology is followed per documented procedures.

Ensure all safety requirements for lab equipment are followed at all times.

Design and build testing jigs for standard and non-standard testing.

Ensure that all duties are performed in a timely manner consistent with applicable quality and safety guidelines and procedures.

Schedule tests as per departmental priorities.

Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

College or CEGEP degree in a technical discipline preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2-4+ years experience in ballistic manufacturing and/or similar laboratory environment.

Technical background in Internal and Transition Ballistics as subfields of Ballistics, a plus.

Technical background in Impact Testing, a plus.

Ability to obtain firearms permit, for restricted and non-restricted firearms, from the Federal government is required.

Computer literate, proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project specifically), statistical analysis based on Probit function is a plus.

Experience with ballistic testing, loading ammunition, and the storing of weapons and ammunition, is a plus.

Position requires a fast learner, meticulous and quality conscious.

Experience with analytical test equipment is a plus.

Good bilingual (French English) written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent time management skills. Must be adaptable to rapidly shifting priorities and testing schedules.

Possess creative problem solving skill with the ability to work efficiently in a team environment.

Understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 process, certification and compliance, a plus.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

* Perform malt and barley analysis in accordance with established methods and procedures to determine product quality that assures compliance with customer specifications.
* Identification and communication of deviations from quality standards to the appropriate Quality Control/Production personnel.
* Conducting special testing of an investigative nature as required.
* Maintain integrity and calibration of laboratory instruments and troubleshoot technical problems in the laboratory.
* Record and process data for lab reports and communicate quality variations to appropriate QA (quality assurance) personnel.
* Maintain integrity of all laboratory records.
* Actively participate in developing and maintaining QA Systems, including the quality principles outlined by the ISO 17025 standard, with emphasis on documentation and preparation of SOP’s (standard operating procedures).
* Maintain a clean and orderly workstation.
* Complete general quality control and laboratory related tasks as directed.
* Order and receive laboratory supplies. Maintain appropriate documentation.
* Effectively train personnel as required, in all areas of malt lab analyses.
* Perform all other duties or special assignments that are deemed necessary.

**SKILLS & ABILITIES**

* Preference will be given to candidates that have a few years’ experience working in an analytical lab
* Preference will be given to candidates who have worked and/or studied recently in a laboratory environment
* Must be proficient in the use of a computer, skills to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
* Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
* Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to proactively identify problems and propose solutions.

AGAT Laboratories is currently looking for a Laboratory Technician A  to join our team working out of our Thunder Bay location. The successful candidate will be able to work independently on laboratory activities with the responsibility for maintaining instruments and equipment used in the lab. It is expected that this position is able to work independently, with direction from the Laboratory Manager.

The schedule for this position is a four day on, four day off rotational schedule with the possibility of night shift availability required. 

What you will be doing:

  • Perform sample, reagent and calibration preparation as directed.
  • Calibrate, operate, maintain, troubleshoot and conduct routine maintenance on all assigned laboratory instruments.
  • Compile, verify and validate accurate data records.
  • Meet quality assurance and turnaround specifications.
  • Follow all Quality Control and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Report results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the table:

  • Degree or diploma in Science or equivalent experience required.
  • 2+ years laboratory experience with required.
  • Able to operate, troubleshoot and maintain analytical instruments.
  • Knowledge of full laboratory processes.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to work in a positive manner in a fast paced environment.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written.

Summary:

AGAT Laboratories is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Laboratory Technician with experience in water quality analysis, microbiology and toxicology  working out of our St John's NL  facility. This is a position with a permanent status. The Laboratory Technician  will play a crucial role in supporting our research and development activities.  

Schedule : Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:30pm

What you will be doing:

  • Laboratory Operations & Instrument Maintenance
    • Perform basic laboratory procedures such as prepare samples, reagents, and calibrations.
    • Calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments, troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Data Management & Quality Assurance
    • Compile, verify, and validate data records.
    • Ensure quality assurance standards and turnaround times are met, following all SOPs and Quality Control guidelines.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Report and document results accurately and in a timely manner. 
    • Other duties as assigned

What you bring to the table:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or technical diploma in a related field.
  • Experience in water quality analysis microbiology and toxicology analysis an asset.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.

Work Environment:

This position requires a person to stand, sit and lift throughout the shift in a laboratory environment. Manual dexterity is required to perform repetitive tasks. PPE is required where applicable.
