Job Description

This position is essential to the success of our retail stores. Store associates work closely with wholesale and retail customers to determine their needs, answer their questions about Sherwin-Williams products, and recommend the right solutions. Store associates are also expected to promptly resolve any customer concerns and ensure maximum client satisfaction as well as stay up-to-date with product features and maintain the high quality and visual standards of the products and store. Store associates are tasked with achieving excellent customer service, while consistently meeting the store’s sales goals.

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The role provides service to customers, sorting incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Thrift Store.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.

  2. Greet and interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner.

  3. Contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient courteous customer service; use tact when dealing with difficult customers.
  4. Be knowledgeable regarding product pricing and featured sale products; protect the integrity of all donated items.
  5. Maintain store opening and closing procedures as required.
  6. Responsible for accurate completion of all customer transactions including cash and debit sales with minimal voids, overages, or shortages.
  7. Adhere to store policy regarding cheques, credit cards, refunds, voids, and holds.
  8. Process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, hanging, pricing, and storing donations.
  9. Possess knowledge of stock in order to respond to customer enquiries by phone/in person.
  10. Pay attention to store security, by monitoring activity within the store.
  11. Assist with store layout plans to attract customers, which would include window displays and merchandise displays; displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through "Tidy Maintenance:".
  12. Contribute to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, hanging, and pricing as directed.
  13. Assist with donation turnover, replenish inventory levels on the sales floor and remove inventory from sales floor as directed.
  14. Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation; bagging textiles to be recycled and placing metal recycling in the appropriate location.
  15. Assist donors with their contributions, unload donations and place stock in appropriate location.
  16. Maintain the proper sorting and processing of goods, ensure compliance with quality standards; that all products are priced correctly as per store policy.
  17. Perform other duties as required.

  18. Health and Safety

  19. Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, clean spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the store).

  20. Maintain an attractive organized and safe appearance of the store, tidy up and restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust, and mop as necessary; on a rotational basis clean the lunchroom, washroom, and other common areas.
  21. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent part-time position.
  • Candidate will need to be available for weekends and some evening shifts .
  • This job requires the ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching is required; the ability to lift/move 30 pounds.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $9.69 with a maximum of 23.63.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet, assist and thank customers in a friendly manner, over the phone and in person.
  • Recommend related products to customers so they leave with everything they need.
  • Ensure that retail tasks are executed efficiently (e.g., stocking, labels, facing, clean area etc.).
  • Perform hole checks to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations.

Requirements / Skills

  • No experience is required! - We will provide all the training you need!
  • Ability to work shifts (days, evenings, week-ends and holidays)
  • Approachable
  • Ability to handle physical demands including standing/walking for 8 hours while frequently lifting and carrying items, using a ladder, twisting, turning and reaching
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to find solutions to problems, adapt and cope with challenging situations and make decisions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to operate a cash register (asset)
